Round of 16
Match one of eight
Germany(3 wins in Group Play, Goupe A winners) vs
Sweden (a win and 2 draws in group play,Group B runner-up)

Germany advanced to the FIFA World Cup™ quarter-finals after two early goals from Lukas Podolski secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Sweden on Saturday, 24 June 2006.

Jurgen Klinsmann's team never looked back once Podolski had fired them in into a fourth-minute lead and, after the same player doubled their advantage eight minutes later, only the excellence of Sweden goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson prevented Germany winning by a considerably wider margin.

Sweden lost defender Teddy Lucic to a second yellow card after 35 minutes and their faint hopes of a comeback all but evaporated when Henrik Larsson blazed a penalty over the crossbar eight minutes into the second half.

Helped by a lightning start, the hosts produced a magnificent display of attacking football to brush past a disappointing Sweden team. Germany looked the more impressive side even when all 22 players were still on the field, but once Lucic departed there was no way back for the Swedes, for whom Larsson's penalty miss merely rubbed salt in the wounds.

Germany can now look forward to a quarter-final tie in Berlin next Friday against the winners of the Argentina-Mexico match, which takes place later this evening in Leipzig.

Group of 16
Match two of eight
Argentina (3 wins in group play, Group B Winners) vs
Mexico (a win, a loss and a draw in group play, Group D runner-up)

Argentina needed extra time and a wonder strike from Maxi Rodriguez to give them a 2-1 victory over Mexico and a place in the quarter-finals of Germany 2006 in Leipzig on Saturday, 24 June 2006.

After a fast and furious start, Mexico took the lead with just five minutes on the clock. Pavel Pardo's free-kick from the right was flicked on by Jared Borgetti and Rafael Marquez swept the ball home at the far post.

It took just four minutes for the Albiceleste to draw level. Juan Riquelme’s corner from the right was touched in by Hernan Crespo and despite a series of chances for both sides, 1-1 was how it stayed for the remaining 80 minutes of normal time.

In the 98th minute, Juan Sorin’s fine cross-field pass was chested down by Rodriguez and the Atletico Madrid man fired home a left-footed volley to book his side a date with Germany in Berlin’s Olympiastadion on 30 June.

It took a world-class goal to separate these two in an otherwise evenly balanced game. The win sets up a mouth-watering clash between the South Americans and Germany in Berlin on Friday.

TV Producer Aaron Spelling Dies at 83

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Aaron Spelling, a onetime movie bit player who created a massive number of hit series, from the vintage "Charlie's Angels" and "Dynasty" to "Beverly Hills 90210" and "Melrose Place," died Friday, his publicist said. He was 83.

Spelling died at his mansion in Los Angeles after suffering a stroke on June 18, according to publicist Kevin Sasaki.

Spelling's other hit series included "Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Burke's Law," "The Mod Squad," "Starsky and Hutch," "T.J. Hooker," "Matt Houston," "Hart to Hart" and "Hotel." He kept his hand in 21st-century TV with series including "7th Heaven" and "Summerland."

He also produced more than 140 television movies. Among the most notable: "Death Sentence" (1974), Nick Nolte's first starring role; "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble" (1976), John Travolta's first dramatic role; and "The Best Little Girl in the World" (1981), which starred Jennifer Jason Leigh.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Spelling provided series and movies exclusively for ABC and is credited for the network's rise to major status. Jokesters referred to it as "The Aaron Broadcasting Company."

"Aaron's contributions in television are unequaled. To me, he was a dear friend and a truly genuine human being," Jaclyn Smith, the only original "Charlie's Angels" actress who stayed with the show for its entire run, said in a statement Friday.

Success was not without its thorns. TV critics denounced Spelling for fostering fluff and nighttime soap operas. He called his shows "mind candy"; critics referred to them as "mindless candy."

"Charlie's Angels" ushered in a genre known as "jiggle TV" for its gratuitous focus on the female form.

"The knocks by the critics bother you," he admitted in a 1986 interview with The Associated Press. "But you have a choice of proving yourself to 300 critics or 30 million fans. You have to make a choice. I think you're also categorized by the critics. If you do something good they almost don't want to like it."

He liked to cite some of his more creditable achievements, like "Family" (1976-80), a drama about a middle-class family, and "The Best Little Girl in the World."

Among his prestige films for TV: "Day One" (1989), about the making of the atomic bomb; "And the Band Played On" (1992), based on Randy Shilts' book about the AIDS crisis.

Spelling had arrived in Hollywood virtually penniless in the early 1950s. By the 1980s, Forbes magazine estimated his wealth at $300 million. He enjoyed his status, working in a Hollywood office larger than those of golden-era moguls ("I'm slightly claustrophpobic," he explained.) He gifted his second wife, Candy, with a 40-carat diamond ring.

The Spellings' most publicized extravagance was their 56,500-square-foot French chateau in Holmby Hills.

The couple bought the former Bing Crosby estate for $10 million. It was leveled to the ground, along with two other houses. Construction cost was estimated at $12 million.

The two-story house reached a height of 51 feet. Among the features: a one-lane bowling alley, pool, tennis court, gym, screening room. Built on rollers, it easily survived the 1994 Northridge earthquake.

The mansion dwarfed nearby estates, and the neighbors were furious. One woman won an injunction during construction, calling the place "Look-at-me-I'm-rich architecture."

Born on April 22, 1923, Spelling grew up in a small frame house on Browder Street in Dallas "on the wrong side of the tracks," he wrote in his 1996 autobiography. He was the fourth son of immigrant Jews, his father from Poland, mother from Russia. The father's name, Spurling, was simplified to Spelling by an Ellis Island official.

"I grew up thinking 'Jew boy' was one word," the producer wrote in his memoir, "Aaron Spelling: A Prime-Time Life." He was considered strange by his Dallas schoolmates because his parents spoke Yiddish. He was subjected to anti-Semitic taunts and beatings on his way home from school.

At 8, the boy suffered what he termed a nervous breakdown, and he spent a year in bed. He later considered that period the birth of his creative urge. He fell in love with great storytellers, especially O. Henry. Of his early TV series he said, "They are all O. Henry short stories."

"I still have nightmares about being in a $6,000 house in Dallas, Texas," he remarked in a 1996 AP interview. "Wall-to-wall people, one bathroom. I was the one to go to the local bakery a block away on Saturday to get the day-old stuff."

Spelling enlisted in the Army Air Corps after graduating from high school in 1942.

After combat and organizing entertainment in Europe during the war, Spelling returned to Texas and enrolled at Southern Methodist University, where he wrote and directed plays. He continued working in local theatrics after graduating.

Finding no work in New York, Spelling moved to Los Angeles, where he staged plays and acted in more than 40 TV shows and 12 movies. His skinny frame suited him for the role of a ragged beggar in the MGM musical "Kismet." He worked for three weeks, repeating his one line: "Alms for the love of Allah."

The "Kismet" experience resulted in two decisions: he abandoned acting for the typewriter; he married a young actress he had been courting, Carolyn Jones. She became well-known, especially as Morticia in "The Addams Family" series. They divorced after 13 years, and she died of cancer in 1983.

Spelling's friendship with such actor-producers as Dick Powell, Jack Webb and Alan Ladd led to his rapid rise as a prolific writer and later producer of TV series. In 1960, Powell, head of Four Star Productions, hired him to produce shows for Powell himself, his wife June Allyson and Lloyd Bridges. "Burke's Law," with Gene Barry as a millionaire detective, became the first hit series Spelling created.

After Powell's death, Spelling teamed with Danny Thomas in a production company, scoring a huge success with "The Mod Squad," about a trio of youthful undercover cops. In 1969, Spelling began an exclusive contract with ABC, helping the network to rise from a low third place to the top of the network ratings. Former ABC programming chief Leonard Goldberg joined him as partner in 1972.

After ABC canceled "Dynasty" in 1989 and his contract with the network had ended, Spelling found himself without a show on the air for the first time since 1960.

"I was so depressed, I would have quit, but I like TV too much," Spelling wrote in his memoir. Besides, his company had started issuing stock in 1986, and he had an obligation to his investors. After a year's respite, he returned with "Beverly Hills 90210," which helped launch the fledgling Fox Network into the bigtime. "Melrose Place" gave Fox another hit.

Throughout his career, Spelling maintained the same image: the skinny frame, slightly hawkish face. He usually posed with a pipe in his mouth, a custom he adopted early after seeing stars with pipes in fan magazine photos.

Spelling and his second wife, Candy, had two children, Tori (for Victoria), who became a star on the two Fox serials ("Now I'm known as Tori Spelling's father," he said in mock lament), and Randy, who appeared in the short-lived "Malibu Shores."

Spelling set a record of producing more than 3,000 TV episodes. Besides the TV movies, he produced 10 theatrical films including "California Split," "Mr. Mom." "'night, Mother," "Loose Cannons" and "Soapdish."

Memorial services were pending.

World Cup Review

Day 15
Friday June 24

all match review will be from the official FIFA World Cup Site at yahoo.com or at this address fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/ for more Info

Well this is it today is the last four game in group play after today the 16 teams will move out from groyp play to the Knock out stage were one loss in round two of the world cup it is over just like that.

GROUP G
Switzerland (WD= 4 pts.) v South Korea (WD= 4 pts.)

Goals from Philippe Senderos and Alexandr Frei clinched a 2-0 win for Switzerland over Korea Republic in Hanover on 23 June and secured top spot for Kobi Kuhn’s side in Group G.

The result, combined with France’s 2-0 win over Togo, leaves Dick Advocaat’s Taeguk Warriors facing an earlier-than-expected journey home, while the Swiss march on to a Round of 16 clash with Group H runners-up Ukraine in Cologne on 26 June.

Korea Republic may, however, consider themselves unfortunate having contributed significantly to this competitive and entertaining encounter, although the Swiss did create the game’s better chances and were more clinical in front of goal, with Frei in particular a constant threat.

Kuhn’s side finish on the summit of Group G with seven points, followed by France on five, Korea Republic on four, with Togolese, who go home without a point to their name but with pride intact, in fourth position.

The win sees Switzerland through to the Round of 16 for the first time since 1994, where they will face a tough test against Ukraine. Brave Korea and their wonderful fans will sadly be heading for home as France’s win in the other group match against Togo sees Raymond Domenech's side through to the knockout stages as runners-up. They will square off against high-flying Spain.

GROUP G
Togo (LL= zero pts.)v France (DD= 2 pts.)

France advanced to a Round of 16 meeting with Spain after second-half goals from Patrick Vieira and Thierry Henry secured a 2-0 victory over Togo in Cologne on Friday, 23 June 2006.

After a frustrating first half of missed chances, Vieira marked his 30th birthday with the breakthrough goal after 55 minutes. Henry added France's second six minutes later to give France the win they needed to progress as the second-placed team in Group G behind Switzerland.

France, whose success here was their first on the world stage since the 1998 Final, will play Spain in Hanover on 27 June. As for Togo, they return home without a point from their first FIFA World Cup campaign.

France got the FIFA World Cup victory they have been waiting eight years for, meaning they finished as runners-up behind Switzerland in Group G and they will now face Spain in Hannover in the Round of 16 on Tuesday. Togo, beset by internal problems, head home after three straight defeats.

GROUP H
Saudi Arabia(DL= 1 pt.) v Spain (WW= 6 pts.)

Spain advanced to the Round of 16 with a third win under their belts as they beat Saudi Arabia 1-0 in Kaiserslautern on Friday, 23 June 2006.

With Spain already secured their second-round berth coach Luis Aragones fielded a new-look line-up and there were also changes in the Saudi Arabia side with Sami Al Jaber, Saad Al Harthi and Abdulaziz Khathran all coming into the starting XI.

Juanito's 36th-minute header was enough to separate the teams and confirm the Saudis' elimination after one draw and two defeats. While Marcos Paqueta's men pack their bags to go home, Spain, as Group H winners, can look forward to facing the second-placed team in Group G (one of Switzerland, Korea Republic or France) in Hanover on 27 June.

It was ultimately a deserved victory for Spain's second-string who were in control for almost the entire match but were wasteful in front of goal. Saudi Arabia had the game’s outstanding player in goalkeeper Zaid, who made a host of quality saves to prevent a landslide defeat. While Saudi Arabia head for home, Spain can look ahead to the knockout stage with confidence.

GROUP H
Ukraine (LW= 3 pts.)v Tunisia (DL= 1 pt.)

Andriy Shevchenko’s 70th minute penalty proved to be enough for Ukraine to book their progression through to the Round of 16 as they recorded a 1-0 win over Tunisia in Berlin on Friday, 23 June 2006.

A win could have given Tunisia the runners up spot in Group H, but their task was made all the more difficult when they had striker Zied Jaziri sent-off for a second bookable offence on the stroke of half-time.

Roger Lemerre's side will depart Germany after having taken part in their third consecutive FIFA World Cup™, but 2006 also represents the third consecutive tournament that they have failed to get past the group stage.

As for Ukraine, competing in their first FIFA World Cup, they are now looking forward to a second round tie against the winners of Group G in Cologne on 26 June.

Ukraine, though nowhere near as impressive as against Saudi Arabia, just did enough to edge this encounter and deservedly progress to the last 16. Tunisia, for all their endeavour, rarely troubled Shovkovskyi and will return home rueing the lapse in concentration from Jaidi that put paid to any hopes they might have harboured of stealing the three points they needed.

So after 48 matches in Group play over 32 teams over 8 group and two weeks and a day the final 16 is set, Now it going to be a little bit diffence than in group play, that mean one loss and that it it over done finsih. That have 90 mintues to prove there worth if it not deciede in 90 mintues then there two 15 mintues half and it nobody scored it go to a shootout big time.

So here is the final standing in Group Play.

At least the rain stay away for the TV and a gig

Last night in cluture city it was a nutty night to do two things one watch all the good show or good out to see a well name band at a small club, Well i wind up doing both as i watch the TV fare like so you can think you can dance on fox i was good and filping to Countdowm and filping at 9 PM to the new NBC show and brovo Celeb poker showdown. I was going to go early to the the Bell rays at small but it was rain with tunder and lighting it made it too dangers to goo to small untill 11:30 PM when it was safe to go.

The show was good, The Bellrays was awsome and so was SSM, and because of the weather i miss the sirern but i saw them on sunday so that OK.

Only one note from detroit rock city.

It look Like The Thunderbirds Are Now! will have to wait for there follow up to "Justamustache", according to Frenchkiss Records to cmj.com There follow up Make History will now be release in October the CD was going to drop in september but there going to fine tune it.

Lead singer and guitarist Ryan Allen wrote in an e-mail to cmj.com, "We're going to take a look at some songs and shine them up a bit," "We were already in a good place when we deemed the album ‘done' the first time, but we're excited that we've been given a chance to listen to it for a while."

John Schmersal of Enon mixed most of Make History and Eli Janney of Girls Against Boys also helped mix about half of the songs. The band enlisted the help of Chris Zane, who has worked with Les Savy Fav, Supersystem and Calla in the past, for what Allen called "phase 2 of the mixing process." Working with Zane at New York's Gigantic Studios, TAN! hopes to have Make History wrapped up by mid-July.

And thouse who wating to hear the new songs live they will playing string of summer dates including two at the Stick Next wednesday and on Sept 23.

ANd now the follow are post from the otuside the 313 from other we sight

After cranking out three studio albums in 2005, Ryan Adams hasn't made much of a peep this year, save for a legal beat-down on some overenthusiastic file-sharers back in March. (Side-note: nothing breeds new fans like litigating your current ones, just ask Lars Ulrich.)

While it's already halfway through 2006 and there's not a single whiff of new Adams material, Ryan Adams and the Cardinals have announced a string of summer tour dates. Before the trek begins in full force in July, the band will play two warm-up gigs tomorrow night in New York City, first at the Arthur Lee of Love benefit show at the Beacon Theatre, then late night at the Bowery Ballroom.

The shows keep Adams on the road through August, including a stop at Nashville, Tennessee's Ryman Auditorium, once home to the Grand Ole Opry and site of his infamous 2002 "Summer of 69" meltdown.

In a February interview with Spin, Ryans claimed the heckling trauma forced him into therapy, and that his fans are "a bunch of fucking cocks. They come to my shows to provoke me." It's unimaginable that anybody in the staid, reserved crowd at Chicago's Lollapalooza will do anything to provoke him when he wraps up his tour there in August.(pitchforkmedia.com)

Texas indie-pop band Voxtrot are set to expand their reach beyond the blogosphere, as they have signed with the Playlouder label, an imprint of the multi-tentacled Beggars Group that is also home to Serena Maneesh. Currently, Playlouder has no plans to put out the band's previously self-released EPs Raised by Wolves and Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives, so Voxtrot won't really be on their radar until the band completes their first album, which is tentatively scheduled to be released early next year. They'll head into the studio this fall..(pitchforkmedia.com)

When an artist dies, the hyperbole begins, and James "Jay Dee /J Dilla" Yancey's case has been no exception. For every "J Dilla Changed My Life" t-shirt, (the proceeds from which go to the Yancey family), there's something like Common's recent statement in XXL: "When we think of John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye, J Dilla will be going down along that history line of greatness," which does little more than create unreasonable expectations for potential new fans, in addition to making us wonder about Common's command of the language.

Fortunately, the exaggeration has been tempered by the promise of new music. The Shining, which is the first of two completed J Dilla albums rumored to be released later this year, has finally received an official release date, and there is a tracklist as well. According to a press release, the album was "over 90% done" when Dilla passed away in February, and it was completed by Karriem Riggins ("longtime associate" of Dilla's). It has now been scheduled for an August 22 release on BBE Records.

Dilla's previous collaborators included everyone from A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul to Ghostface Killah, and The Shining is no exception in the guest department. But the real treat is that The Shining features "Dilla himself as MC and-- for the first time ever-- singer."(pitchforkmedia.com)

Keith Richards may have backed out of his cameo in the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, but that hasn't stopped the film's director from working with some of his other favorite rockers on another project.

Big names (Bono, Sting, Lou Reed, Nick Cave), pretty big names (Rufus Wainwright, Richard Thompson, Lucinda Williams, Jarvis Cocker, Bryan Ferry, Van Dyke Parks), smaller names (Antony, Akron/Family, Jolie Holland), and baffling names (Ralph Steadman? John C. Reilly?! That Prairie Home Companion role must have really spoken to him) alike will contribute to Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs & Chanteys, a two-disc compilation due out August 22 on Anti-.

The album was produced by Hal Willner, the man behind multiple tribute compilations, including the bizarre Closed on Account of Rabies: Tales of Edgar Allan Poe, which featured a Christopher Walken reading of "The Raven" alongside contributions from Iggy Pop and Jeff Buckley. Although Rogue's Gallery is not the official soundtrack to Pirates of the Carribean, the idea was dreamed up by Pirates director Gore Verbinski and lead pirate Johnny Depp while filming the movie, because they were, y'know, at sea a lot.

Verbinksi explained the origins of the idea as follows: "I slowly became fascinated by the idea of a contemporary reinterpretation of the sea chantey. I imagined the artists that I listen to and respect doing their take on this age-old music: the song of the sea." He asked Depp for his input, since "he has a great musical aesthetic" and "I've always believed Johnny is a musician first and the actor thing is just his day job." (pitchforkmedia.com)

Once again, the innovative kids behind Seattle's non-profit all-ages arts and music space the Vera Project have outdone themselves with an epic week of fundraising-- the fourth annual A Drink for the Kids, taking place June 24-30. No, it doesn't involve giving eight-year-olds alcohol, but it does involve something called "Iron Composer".

Following six days of events, the Showbox club will host "Iron Composer #13" a raucous comedic and musical competition featuring "Saturday Night Live" comedian (and former Trenchmouth member) Fred Armisen taking on Martin Crandell and David Hernandez of the Shins in a battle of extreme absurdity.

According to a press release, during the "Iron Chef"-inspired game show, Armisen and the Shins "must compose a song in 45 minutes based on a random interview with an audience member, while being distracted and confused by the outlandish characters behind Iron Composer, the audience, five ‘Mystery Turmoils', and consuming five mandatory shots of vodka in 45 minutes." The competition will be judged by comedians Cross, Todd Barry, and Jon Benjamin.

Yeah, this sounds like the best thing ever.

The event will also feature a performance by Pleaseeasaur (a dude who dresses up, often like a polar bear, and dances to his own experimental karaoke/exercise videos/musical revue), because it just wasn't crazy enough already.

Folks hungry for more "Iron Composer" should keep their eyes on the Game Show Network, because it's being turned into a TV series. Folks thirsty for more charity can spend the week before the big event going to select Seattle bars, buying some drinks, and knowing that a portion of liquor sales will go to the Vera Project. Thank God there are still a few non-indie rock wolves out there, right? Those who dig noize and a little blood under the fingernails are in luck, ‘cause Wolf Eyes, kings of all that is screechy and avant, have big news. Their new album, Human Animal, is due out September 26 on Sub Pop. Meanwhile, anticipate the vertigo with their 12" single, "The Driller" backed by "Psychologist", streeting July 25, and this mind-burning tracklist:

01 The Driller
02 Four Strings of Satanic Heritage
03 Rationed Rot
04 Leper War
05 Human Animal
06 Rusted Mange
07 A Million Years of Graveyards
08 Noise Not Music
09 Lake of Roaches

Human Animal is Wolf Eyes' first album with new member Mike Connelly (of Hair Police) and without Aaron Dilloway, although Dilloway mixed the record. Oh, and "Noise Not Music" is a cover of a song by a band called No Fucker. You're familiar with the works of No Fucker, right?

Wolf Eyes are headed out on their first-ever Australian tour tonight. They'll be accompanied by metal-gloom locals the Gray Daturas and (yes, Mom) some Neosporin. In October, they'll support Human Animal with a North American trek. (pitchforkmedia.com)

Remember Feist's new album Open Season? The collection of remixes, rarities, acoustic tracks, collaborations, and covers that came out on Arts&Crafts in Canada in April? Remember how we said that it isn't that great? Well, now Feist's southern North American neighbors will be able to decide for themselves, as Cherrytree/Interscope Records will put out the disc in the U.S. on July 18.
Tracklist:

01 One Evening (Gonzales Solo Piano)
02 Inside+Out (Apostle of Hustle UnMix Live at the BBC with Janice Long)
03 Mushaboom (Mockey mix)
04 Gatekeeper (One Room One Hour mix)
05 Lonely Lonely (Ungodly Hours mix)
06 Mushaboom (Postal Service mix)

In the meantime, Feist is in Europe chipping away on her follow-up to Let It Die. On Saturday, she'll return to her home continent for a series of North American festival appearances, including one in Salmon Arm, British Columbia. Wait, salmon don't actually have arms, right? (pitchforkmedia.com)

Petra Haden, beloved vocalist/violinist for the Decemberists, will be perusing other avenues of adventure after touring exclusively with the Decemberists for most of last year.

"It's an amicable thing; we still are friends," reads a posting on the band's official message board. "For one thing, we initially had asked her to come aboard as a touring musician for just the Picaresque tours. We hadn't really expected to take her on as a full-time part of the band. There was some talk about that happening, but in the end, after the tours were over and we were back in the comforts of our homes it didn't necessarily still make sense."

But don't you worry about Ms. Haden; she has plenty of activities to keep her busy. She's currently writing songs and playing shows in New York with Yuka Honda (of Cibo Matto) in a project called If By Yes. She's also working on her next solo a cappella record (the first one was 2005's Petra Haden Sings: The Who Sell Out) in her hometown of Los Angeles. And as if that's not enough, Haden is going on tour with the Foo Fighters later this summer as part of their acoustic band. Isn't there some sort of fine for trading Colin Meloy for Dave Grohl?(cmj.com)

Pete Yorn kicks off his first acoustic tour this week and will work overtime by playing in-store sets at several of his stops. Each of the "mini-concerts" will be recorded as part of the limited edition CD series, Live From..., and each CD will be sold exclusively at the store that hosted the performance. If that's still not enough Pete Yorn for you, fans ordering his forthcoming album, Nightcrawler, at these performances will receive the limited edition six-song EP, Westerners. Yorn says the EP is a the final in his "lonesome cowboy triology" which includes his 2001 debut, musicforthemorningafter and 2003's Day I Forgot.(cmj.com)

Pete Doherty Journals to Be Published

The tortured rocker's journals dating from 1999 to the present, covering drug battles and his relationship with Kate Moss, will hit shelves in mid-2007.
(From spin.com)

Twenty volumes of Pete Doherty's journals, including drawings, poetry, photos and film reviews, will be bound together in a hardcover book which will be released in March 2007 by Orion Publishing Group Ltd. Doherty's journals chronicle his rise from relative anonymity as a young, broke poet serving popcorn in a movie theater, to his rise to fame with the Libertines, to his present well-publicized battles with addiction. "It is intimate, honest stuff, very readable and very funny in places; pretty dark in others," Orion commissioning editor Ian Preece said of the book.

While Doherty failed to appear at an event at London's Boogaloo pub Wednesday to announce the publishing deal, he released a statement saying, "I am very happy to have a book coming out with Orion and to share a bookshelf with H.G. Wells, Ian Rankin, and Stan Bowles."

Ex-Verve Frontman Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Richard Ashcroft allegedly burst into a U.K. youth club, demanded to work with the troubled teens, and refused to leave.
(SPIN.com)

Richard Ashcroft, former Verve frontman, was arrested on Monday (June 19) after allegedly bursting into a British youth club in an intoxicated state, demanding to be allowed to work with the troubled youth, and refusing to leave. The club's staff called the police and Ashcroft was taken into custody, fined for disorderly conduct, and released, according to U.K. tabloid The Sun. One of the nearly 60 teens hanging out at the Wiltshire club told the paper Ashcroft "looked like a tramp. He was disheveled and unshaven," while another said he "wasn't aggressive" and "kept hugging some staff and kids," saying that he "wanted to work with the kids, that he wanted to do 'good things.'"

New Portishead Album Imminent?

Nine years after the release of their last studio album, Portishead say some new material is starting to materialize.
(Form SPIN.com)

It's been nine years since Portishead released a studio album (1997's Portishead), but the trio may finally be coming out with some new material. A recent post on the band's MySpace page revealed they are coming back. " We've had our meeting with the label; it was really positive...which makes the whole thing so much easier to deal with nice people," the post read. "The tracks are in a right mess but sounding like an album for the first time in years." The post went on to describe the new tracks as "a bit weird," and took aim at some artists they'd like to stop being compared to: "It's nice to think us old gits have a few tunes in us without sounding like coffee table Zero 7-Moby-chill out shit!!" No word on when fans can expect to actually have a new album in their hands.

ERIC BURDON AND THE ANIMALS
Tuesday, July the 4th
Main Stage - 3:00 PM

Unlike other British Invasion acts, The Animals were a rough-and-tumble band with an early blues influence that made The Stones sound like Herman’s Hermits. Hear him sing some of his classics as well as songs off his latest solo release, “Soul of a Man.”

World Cup Review

Day 14
Thursday, June 22

all match review will be from the official FIFA World Cup Site at yahoo.com or at this address fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/ for more Info

Group E
Czech Republic (WL= 3 pts.)v Italy (WD= 4 pts.)

Ghana's 2-1 victory over the USA in Nuremberg booked their place in the Round of 16 and left Bruce Arena's men facing an earlier than expected flight home from the FIFA World Cup™ finals.

The Africans took the lead in the 22nd minute when Haminu Draman robbed Claudio Reyna of possession on the edge of the area and cooly slotted the ball past Kasey Keller.

Clint Dempsey's powerful finish two minutes before half-time gave the US hope of winning the match, but they were soon behind again through Stephen Appiah's penalty, scored in the second minute of added time at the end of the first half.

Try as they might after the interval, the US could not find a way past a stubborn Ghana rearguard and leave the tournament after claiming just one point from their three group games. For Ratomir Dujkovic's Black Stars, however, a match with the winners of Group F in Dortmund awaits.

As was the case in every game they played at Germany 2006, the US conceded the game's first goal. Although they managed to equalise as they did against Italy, the scoreline did not stay level for long, and they just did not have the firepower to overturn another deficit.

Group E
Ghana (LW= 3 pts.)v United States (LD= 1 pt)

Italy secured their qualification for the Round of 16 as Group E winners after beating the Czech Republic 2-0 in Hamburg on Thursday, 22 June 2006.

Marcello Lippi's side will face the second-placed team from Group F in Kaiserslautern on 26 June. The Czechs, who head home early after finishing third in the group, played the whole second half with ten men after the dismissal of Jan Polak moments before the break following a second yellow card.

Marco Materazzi, an early replacement for the injured Alessandro Nesta, put the Azzurri on course for victory when he headed past Petr Cech in the 26th minute and his fellow substitute Filippo Inzaghi sealed the three points three minutes from the end.

Group F
Japan (LD= 1 pt.)v Brazil(WW= 6 pts.)

Brazil made sure of first place in Group F as they came from behind to beat Japan 4-1 through goals from Ronaldo (2), Juninho Pernambucano and Gilberto in Dortmund on Thursday, 22 June 2006.

The world champions can now look forward to a Round of 16 meeting with Ghana in Kaiserslautern on 26 June following their third straight victory at Germany 2006. For Japan, this was their second defeat in three matches and left them bottom of the section with one point.

The star of the show was Ronaldo, who overtook Pele with his 12th and 13th FIFA World Cup goals – moving to within one of Gerd Muller’s record of 14. He headed Brazil level in first-half injury time to cancel out Keiji Tamada's fine 34th-minute opener for Japan.

Then, after Juninho Pernambucano (53 minutes) and Gilberto (59’) had struck superb goals to seize control of the match for Brazil, Ronaldo had the final word as he made it 4-1 nine minutes before the end.

Brazil’s samba football finally arrived in Germany in a superb second-half performance that saw Japan dismantled, earning the world champions an intriguing last 16 clash against Ghana. Japan will fly home disappointed with their Germany 2006 campaign after impressing on home soil four years ago, and Zico's side may well wonder what might have been had they not conceded the equaliser just before half-time.

Group F
Croatia (LD= 1 pts.)v Australia (WL= 3 pts.)

Australia made history by twice coming from behind against Croatia to earn the point they needed to claim a place in the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup™.

The Socceroos lost all three games in their one previous appearance on the world stage in 1974 but a 2-2 draw with Croatia in Stuttgart was enough to secure second place in Group F and a second-round tie against Italy in Kaiserslautern on 26 June. Australia finished with four points from three matches, two clear of third-placed Croatia.

On a nervy night, Croatia opened the scoring through Darijo Srna’s second-minute free-kick. Craig Moore drew Australia level from the penalty spot on 38 minutes but the balance swung back Croatia’s way when Niko Kovac’s shot was fumbled by Zeljko Zalac in the 56th minute. However, Harry Kewell struck the decisive second Australian goal 11 minutes from time.

Stuttgart played host to a night of unforgettable drama, where both sides could have progressed to the second round at different stages, but at the end it was Australia who were celebrating and heading to Kaiserslautern to face Italy on Monday.

GROUP C
Netherlands (WW= 6 pts.) v Argentina (WW= 6 pts.)

Argentina secured first place in Group C and a Round of 16 meeting with Mexico after a 0-0 draw with the Netherlands in Frankfurt on Wednesday, 21 June 2006.

The stalemate between two sides already assured of qualification left them tied on seven points at the top of the group, with Argentina finishing first virtue of their better goal difference. While Jose Pekerman's team move on to face Mexico in Leipzig on Saturday, the Dutch will play Portugal in Nuremberg 24 hours later.

The Netherlands have not lost in normal time to Argentina in four meetings in the FIFA World Cup™, but it is the South Americans who finish the group stage marginally happier having secured first place. The unbeaten records of both should ensure they look ahead to the Round of 16 with confidence.

GROUP C
Ivory Coast (LL= zero pts.) v Serbia & Montenegro (LL= zero pts.)

Côte d'Ivoire produced a stirring finale to their first-ever FIFA World Cup™ adventure, coming from two goals down to clinch a stunning 3-2 win over Serbia and Montenegro.

The FIFA World Cup Stadium Munich witnessed a terrific match, one of Germany 2006's best to date, and the Ivorian Elephants thoroughly deserved the victory secured by goals from Aruna Dindane (2) and Bonaventure Kalou, after earlier strikes from Nikola Zigic and Sasa Ilic had put the Serbo-Montenegrins 2-0 in front.

As if that drama was not enough, there were also a couple of red cards in this match, with Albert Nadj's 46th-minute dismissal a key factor in tipping the balance in favour of a Côte d'Ivoire side who lost captain Cyrille Domoraud in added time.

Despite their first FIFA World Cup victory, Côte d'Ivoire finish third in Group C with three points while Serbia and Montenegro go home without a point, having conceded ten goals.

With both teams already eliminated and little but pride at stake, they threw caution to the wind Рand rain Рto produce a fabulous contest. C̫te d'Ivoire emerged victorious despite conceding two early goals for a well-deserved win.

GROUP D
Portugal (6 pts.) v Mexico (4 pts.)

Portugal made it three wins out of three in Group D as they defeated Mexico 2-1 in Gelsenkirchen through goals from Maniche and Simao Sabrosa on Wednesday, 21 June 2006.

While Portugal advanced as group winners to face the second-placed team in Group C - either Argentina or the Netherlands - in a Round of 16 tie in Nuremberg on Sunday, Mexico joined them in the knockout stage after finishing second with four points. El Tri will take on the Group C winners on Saturday in Leipzig.

The Mexicans trailed 2-0 inside 24 minutes in Gelsenkirchen after Maniche shot Portugal into a sixth-minute lead and Simao Sabrosa doubled the advantage from the penalty spot. Jose Fonseca made it 2-1 in the 29th minute but Omar Bravo's missed spot-kick in the second half ensured a defeat for Ricardo La Volpe's team. Mexico also suffered the loss of Luis Perez to a red card, which means he will miss the Round of 16 match through suspension.

Portugal advance to the second round for the first time since 1966 in some style, having claimed maximum points. Mexico - with a win, a draw and a loss - will hope to find some consistency as they head into the knockout stage yet again.

GROUP D
Iran (zero pts.) v Angola (1 pt.)

Iran ended Angola's slim hopes of qualifying from Group D, as they held the African side to a 1-1 draw in Leipzig on Wednesday, 21 June 2006.

Angola scored their first-ever goal at a FIFA World Cup™ finals when Flavio headed home Ze Kalanga's cross on the hour mark. However, their hopes of catching Mexico on goal difference were ended when Sohrab Bakhtiarizadeh rose unmarked to convert Mehdi Mahdavikia's corner 15 minutes from time.

The result left Angola in third place behind Portugal and Mexico with two points, while Iran propped up the table with this, their solitary point of the tournament.

The odds were always stacked against Angola reaching the Round of 16 going into this match, but when they took the lead through Flavio their hopes were suddenly raised. However, Bakhtiarizadeh’s equaliser effectively ended their dreams. In a spirited display from both sides, a draw was probably the fair result, although Angola will be frustrated that they could not convert more of their opportunities.

GROUP C
F16 - Argentina 7 pts. (+7 GD)
F16 - Netherlands 7 pts. (+2 GD)
OUT - Ivory Coast 3 pts. (-1 GD)
OUT - Serbia & Montenegro zero pts. (-8 GD)

Well last night was the last game of the NHL and the hockey season in genarl after nearly a long off-season (remember the was no season in 2005 because of the lock-out) and with the hoped of the Captin stevie Y ending his carrie with the cup only to see it end with a first round KO by the Edmonton Oliers who went all the ways to the stanely Cup Final and almost coming back 3-1 but only to fall to a thechnally a detroit team, the Carliona Hurricanes who is own by Detroiter Peter Karmanos who also own Compurware who HQ is at Downtown Detroit in fornt of Campus Martius Park who game seven last night 3-1 Goals by Aaron Ward and Frantisek Kaberle put the canes up by two but it came close when oliers Fernando Pisani cut it by one and they could not get the tieing goal as Justin Williams put the empty net to end the hocey season and the cup is now at tobacco road for the 1st time for this franchise who began life as the Hartford Whailers.

So this mean the stanley cup is back in detroit but it head quarters is on woodward but it south of Adams Street.

The Big News story in Culture City that broke shortly before
12:30 PM in a breaking News post and been slowly update though out the Day the BBC TV Music Show "Top of the Pops will be no more as of July 30th the pull was pull on the one time popuarl show which been on the air in one from or anonher for 42 years, the show have nearly 19 millions viewers in the 70's but the show have been on a slow and stedy declenc they tried to revamp the show many times change the openen was switch days (From Thursday to Friday to Sunday) it was going low as three Millions viewers when it was downgrade from BBC 1 to BBC 2 and it lost
almost half of it viewer and was a one milions viewers when the end annoucement was made today.

And anyone who know TV know if a long time show is hovering a millions and begin changll by almost 20 24/7 music channels in the UK you know it must be time to let it go.

and a little note: a few years ago the BBC America air 6 months of the show untill that same week show was pulled from the channel line-up.

At one Point the BBC was thinking of doing a US version of TOTP for the WB Network but things fell thur, so the WB (which will fold in Sept.)was stuck doing Pepsi Smash for two years and it was the lowest ever show in WB Histroy.

Also part of the decline that nobody care for the single Chart any more as it begin taking over by really bad music, Just like the US Alblum Chart which i call it the Brought and paid for 200.

Reaction is coming thoghut out the day if you want more just go on line at more on this on the BBC Web sight at
http://www.bbc.co.uk/ or the TOTP web sight at www.bbc.co.uk/totp or more reaction at google, put "Top of the pops" BBC in the search engine and clikc on News and sort by date for the latet updates, as the new story goes first.

World cup review

Day 12
Tuesday, June 20

all match review will be from the official FIFA World Cup Site at yahoo.com or at this address fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/ for more Info

GROUP A
Ecuador (WW= 6 pts.) v Germany (WW= 6 pts.)

Germany sealed top spot in Group A in impressive style, with a Miroslav Klose brace and Lukas Podolski's first goal of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ sealing an emphatic 3-0 win over Ecuador.

Both these sides had already qualified for the Round of 16 prior to this match, but it is Jurgen Klinsmann's side who will march on to the next phase in more confident mood after a performance that simply oozed self-assurance.

The sell-out crowd of 72,000 at Berlin's Olympiastadion were certainly treated to a terrific showing from their side, for whom Klose - now tournament top scorer - was particularly impressive up front.

Ecuador, meanwhile, opted to rest a number of the players who had helped secure victories over Poland and Costa Rica in the South Americans' previous two matches, and did not look as potent without the likes of key striker Agustin Delgado.

Germany will now face the second-placed side from Group B in Munich on 24 June, while Ecuador will go head-to-head against the winner of that section in Stuttgart the following day.

Germany could have won by even more goals here and will advance to the Round of 16 with the confidence gained from three wins in Group A. Ecuador, despite a difficult day in Berlin, can look forward to their first-ever knockout game having won their first two matches.

GROUP A
Costa Rica (LL= 0 pt.) v Poland (LL= 0 pt.)

Poland rescued some pride with a 2-1 victory over Costa Rica as both sides said goodbye to the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Hannover on Tuesday, 20 June 2006.

With both sides already eliminated after two defeats, they went into this Group A match aiming to end on a high at least, and it was Costa Rica who started the better as they took a 25th-minute lead through Ronald Gomez's free-kick. However, Batosz Bosacki drew the Poles level eight minutes later and same player headed the winning goal in the 66th minute.

Poland's victory means they finish third in Group A with one win and two defeats - the same record as four years ago in Korea/Japan. With three defeats, bottom-placed Costa Rica are left to dwell on their poorest return in three FIFA World Cups.

Poland wanted so much more from this FIFA World Cup, but at least they ended with a win. For the Costa Ricans it brings a disappointing finale to a campaign that began with a creditable display in the Opening Match against Germany.

GROUP B
Sweden (DW= 4 pts.) v England (WW= 6 pts.)

England and Sweden drew 2-2 in Cologne on Tuesday, 20 June 2006 - a result that sends both teams through to the Round of 16 from Group B.

England's prize for topping the section is to play Ecuador in Stuttgart on 25 June, while Sweden must take on hosts Germany in Munich 24 hours earlier. Sven-Goran Eriksson's team had already secured qualification before this match and they were only denied a third successive win by a 90th-minute Henrik Larsson goal.

England had gone in front on 34 minutes through a spectacular strike from Joe Cole. Marcus Allback headed the Swedes level at 1-1 six minutes into the second half but substitute Steven Gerrard restored England's advantage when he headed in their second on 81 minutes.

England have still not beaten Sweden since 1968 but, as group winners, they will be happier to be facing Ecuador and not Germany in the Round of 16. Sweden's performance in the second half here, however, should give them confidence ahead of their meeting with the hosts.

GROUP B
Paraguay (DL= 1 pt.) v Trinidad & Tobago (LL=0 pt.)

Paraguay’s disappointing FIFA World Cup™ campaign finished on a high note as they beat Trinidad and Tobago 2-0 in Kaiserslautern's Fritz-Walter-Stadion on Tuesday, 20 June 2006.

The Soca Warriors, meanwhile, depart Germany without a win or goal to their name, and yet the pride of Leo Beenhakker’s team remains firmly intact, with this gallant defeat typical of their energetic, courageous performances throughout their debut tournament.

Much of this match was, in fact, dominated by a T&T side who fell behind to the most unfortunate of opening goals, headed past his own, helpless goalkeeper by Brent Sancho in the 25th minute.

The second half provided entertaining and competitive fare, and saw Paraguay weather a sustained Soca storm before securing their only points of the tournament with a coolly-taken 86th-minute strike from Nelson Cuevas.

Paraguay collected their first win of Germany 2006 in their final match, leaving them in third place in the Group B table behind England and Sweden. Trinidad and Tobago, meanwhile, can feel a little frustrated not to have gained a share of the spoils, especially for their attacking second-half performance.

Group A
F16 - Germany 9 pts. (+6 GD)
F16 - Ecuador 6 pts. (+2 GD)
OUT - Poland 3 pts. (-2 GD)
OUT - Costa Rica zero pts. (-6 GD)

Group B
F16 - England 7 pts. (+3 GD)
F16 - Sweden 5 pts. (+1 GD)
OUT - Paraguay 3 pts. (even GD)

(11 Days to TasteFest)

This just in the Tigers have hit a Homer at Wrigley

Well it been a pretty good weekend in detroit Culture city after fall in sick during the Karma Kickback show at the stick on thursday night, i came back on three night in a row for live and local, gig Two at the belmont and one at the painted lady on the other side of town.

Friday night, I saw the return of pas/cal(
pascalgoespop.com or www.myspace.com/pascalgoespop) at the Belmont feathering the lovely voical of the one and only Betty Marie Barnes which sound it good for a band who i not seen in a long time, the show opender with The Oscillating Fan Club(oscillatingfanclub.com) who sounded good.

But the Best Band of the night on the bill was a great indie five peice band from Washington D.C. called the Washington Social Club (
washingtonsocialclub.com or www.myspace.com/washingtonsocialclub) a very good indie band that some great indie rock and the members move around stage a lot and jump around a lot so that was very good.

On Saturday Night after a brief stop-over at the planet ant to hand out awards for the planet ant film festival and a brief listen to a CFL Game on the internet between Edmonton and Calgray, i went to the panited Lady because it was a good friend B-day party and i came to see two bands i know, first a band call (and no this is there real band name) JewsKillingArabsKillingJews (
www.myspace.com/jewskillingarabskillingjews) a band with house mate friend of mine from down the road it have some great music with the sufe guitar, But if i have one advice for them and i told them before, Please Change the Name JewsKillingArabsKillingJews in not a good band name in these times, I like the Music but the name have to go.

And the second band of the night at the lady was the band Anadonia(
anadoniamusic.com or www.myspace.com/anadonia) who look and sound so nice eather that or i can stop looking at there Violin player Tara who look very pretty like right out of a picture book, But they sound good and look good because it also have Treilynn in the band, She also play in Troy Gregory And The Stepsisters (stepsistersassemble.com or www.myspace.com/troygregoryandthestepsisters).

And last night it was back at the belmont for a good show it was bill as the welcome back from serbia show as the sirers (
thesirensdetroit.com or www.myspace.com/thesirensdetroit) Play there first live and local show since coming back form serbia with new member in the bands, there were great as always the bill also included Hellen (very good) the LA Band Suicide Holiday (who was OK) and problable a very good band fo the night that proble upstage the sirens all together, it a three all girl female rocks trio of good truck rockers who sounds so nice when played live and very nice and cool there called the Dirtrucks (dirtrucks.com or www.myspace.com/dirtrucks) they rock out the place so well last night as they put the love you live into love you live.

and also poping up for apprecend last night at the belmont last night was the like of Meg white was there and Cass records and dirtbombs dummers Ben blackwell and in a total surprise just off the stage at the 89X birthday Show at Foxtown up 75 and to see the Sirens was the one and only and the very lovely chemial of rock and roll Karen O the lead singer of the yeah, yeah, yeahs and she look very pretty at the belmont and she was very nice i must say, this is the second year that somebody show up at the Jos. campau club, last year a couple of members of Hot, Hot, Heat show up after a very good set at the 89X B-day bash.

And i hoped i get in touch with the drummer of bedford Drive about his day at the 89X show and i hoped i put it on this blog sight and hopful Tomorrow and if not hopfuly untill the end of the week.

And I been told once aging That the Tigers have hit a homer agian out of wrigley!

Since it so slow news day around the Detroit area today it think should go into you guess it the best indie news outside the 313. Early

According to a Billboard.com interview with Air member JB Dunckel, the French duo is almost done with its upcoming studio album, which is slated for an early 2007 release on Astralwerks, so in the mean time Dunckel will put out his own solo work September 19 also from astralwerks and it will gounder the name Darkel.

Now he told Billboard.com that the name was inspired by the black keys on a piano: "Most of the tracks contain some piano, and the chords are on the black keys most of the time, because I like the sound of that. Also, it was made very late at night. You have this attraction for the blackness, the space."

For Darkel, Dunckel recruited a few friends to cover bass and "a little bit of guitar." The artist handles vocals for eight out of the album's ten tracks. Its other two songs are "sort of" instrumentals, Dunckel told Billboard.com: "Most of the instruments are acoustic, but I like to treat and process them."

The tracklist includes "TV Destroy," a number about "destroying your TV when it's getting on your nerves," "My Own Sun," which focuses on Dunckel's belief that "inside your heart you have your own sun shining," (puke!) and more. The full tracklisting is as follows:

01 Be My Friend
02 At the End of the Sky
03 TV Destroy
04 Some Men
05 My Own Sun
06 Pearl
07 Earth
08 Beautiful Woman
09 How Brave You Are
10 Bathroom Spirit

as for the new Air CD in 2007 he told billboard.com "It's another direction, for sure. It's different, but it's Air. We like to change all the time. If we don't change our sound, we'll be dead. People who like our music like to discover new things. They're curious. They have some cultural musical background also, so they want to be surprised."

The record features several guest musicians, none of which have been announced at this point in time.

Air last CD was the well-recived 2004's Talkie Walkie.

there will be a DVD on the late Joe Strummer of the Clash, The 2004 documentary Let's Rock Again! will be out on june 27 it Chronicles the last 18 months of Strummer life which include touring of what turn out to be his last alblum Globe a go-go in 2001, but this DVD will have no extra what so ever as it shine a light of one of the ture legond of rock ever.

Chick here to see the trailer.

From the CmJ.COm

The Gossip are set to release an EP, GSSP RMX, August 22 as the second single from their Kill Rock Stars January LP, Standing In The Way Of Control. The EP will hold the original version of the single, "Listen Up," as well as three separate remixes of the song by Arthur Baker, known for his work with Afrika Bambaataa and New Order, and DJs MSTRKRFT and A Touch Of Class. In addition to these juicy reworkings, the EP will feature Le Tigre’s remix of "Standing In The Way Of Control" and a sultry cover of Aaliyah’s redoubtable "Are U That Somebody?" which is currently available on the band’s MySpace page. In other news, the band is currently touring around Europe.

Pixies frontman Frank Black will headline a solo tour and open for Foo Fighters on a handful of dates to support his new album, Fast Man Raider Man. This is the first solo tour that Black has undertaken since 1995. He is currently in Europe playing the festival circuit with the Pixies. In a press release, Black admitted to being excited: "I like doing solo shows, it's a very intense and personal experience, very different from playing with a band," he said. "I like the idea that I don't have to 'follow the beat,' that I can pull the songs a part a little bit, change the set right there on stage if I want. And playing theatres is the best kind of venue to see a concert - everyone's sitting down, relaxed, and ready to be entertained." The tour will be quite the summer vacation for his family, as they will be joining him for its entirety. Black said, "The kids are too young for me to put them to work as roadies." As previously reported, Fast Man Raider Man was produced by Jon Tiven and was recorded over a two-year period.
