HoW 2007 Teared You With

Melody Licious, Musicican, Local Music Writer for the Detroit News, and Radio Host for Detroit Local 101 on Riff 2 [WRIF-HD2] Tuesday for 10 PM from Midnight.

The fourth in the Series of Questionnaire to noted Detroit Rockers Looking back at 2007i send one to long time musician, Music Writer, Radio Host and Music Fan Melody Baetens, who also goes by the stage name of Melody Licious and she is the hardest working person on or off a Detroit rock stage.

She is one of the writers at the Detroit news and not only that edit the News paper Weekly entertainment guide "My Time", She Co-Hosted Detroit Local 101 on WRIF-FM HD Channel Riff 2 at WRIF-HD2 and have been in almost 143 band in the metro Detroit area [OK, she not in about 143 bands, but she in a handful]

I asked here the best and worst of 2007, and always asking her the important Question Number One.

How Did 2007 Treated you

Pretty good. The Detroit News launched My Time, and the Sirens released "More is More." I didn't go on tour, though, for the first year since 2002.

What Crisis that is affecting the indie music scene in side the Detroit area.

There is no "crisis," per se. It'd be nice if there were more new rock bands, and if the rock bands I love played out more.

Same Question but What major Crisis is reallying Affecting the Indie Music Out Side the 313.

I like Jasper's answer...gas prices are big deal. They're causing ticket prices to rise because promoters are having to shell out more to bands who have to pay more for gas while on tour.

Other then you own released if you where in a band, which local released you dig this year.

Ghost City, Electric Six, Dead Bodies, the Beggars...

Which album Outside the Michigan area that really sound cool in 2007.

Amy Winehouse "Back to Black." Other than that I mostly listened to classic rock.

Which album, band or event really let you down big time.

Most albums let me down.

who did you love live and in person this year. [aka, best gig you saw this year]

Van Halen! (this survey makes me sound like I'm 40...I swear I'm only 28!)

Which new band did you really love on the first listen or 1st live gig

Amy Winehouse.

If there was anything difference about the indie music scene in 2007 what would it be.

The one-man band thing.

What band that the rest of the music fans they have not hear of will be heard in 2008.

Nationally, the Hard Lessons, maybe.

And Finally What is your prediction for the indie music scene in 2008.

Tony Muggs becomes President of the United States.

With awards season Just around the corner, and you know the big one are coming up let take a look at a diffence awards show that salute Video Bloggers and where everyone is a winners. [Ed.]

At the 1st Annual Winnies Awards in LA, we were able to meet many people who have wonderful and popular web shows. Culture City Follow Up

Here is a Follow on a Story that broke in November
that have a local angel to this story

it was back in November 24th that Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert died in the tour bus right before soundcheck of there show at the 9:30 Club in D.C., his death happend less then 24 hours after the band played a gig at the Majestic Theater in Midtown on December 23rd.

Now According to autopsy report from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Washington, D.C which was obtained by MTV News and posted on there web sight that the 26-year old dies of "acute combined effects of opiate, citalopram and clonazepam intoxication." meaning he died of a Accidental Overdose Of Medications.

And that his death have been ruled a accidental

according to reports after his passing it was reviled by wife, Ashley, that he was suffered from depression but metion that "it was under control and he was under medication, his fellow band member mention that he was not involved in any illegal drug use, nor did he abuse drugs or alcohol.

and one more thing according to report after he die the band was on the road to D.C. so he did not die in Detroit.

New Music Tuesday

WEEK 51[2007]
DECEMBER 18, 2007

Next week: the 2007 Culture City Festive 50

Today is Tuesday, December 18 a week before Xmas and there is nothing to highlight today on New Music Tuesday, but just to let you know Next week it the end of the year Culture City Festive 50, it the 50 band that matters in 2007.

it was also on this day music fans remember the untimely pass of British singer Kirsty MacColl who left this world far too soon at age 41 in 2000 but her music will live on with the timeless song played at this time of the year "Fairytale of New York" which was done with The Pogues and Shane MacGowan. always a classic.

also on this day in the same in 2000 birt music fans was also shedding a tear or two as NME most hated rival Melody Maker which was the 1st Weekly music British music magazine in 1926 publishes its last issue issue when it owner IPC Media merging with the NME.

and remember i mention on this post last week that "The Killer" Jerry Lee Lewis married his cousin Myra Gale Brown when she was 13 years old back on December 11th 1957, well 14 years and one week later they divorces, oh by that way did i mention the movie Great Balls of Fire! where his 13 year old cousin was portrayed by young Winona Ryder.

and also on a non-music related note it was this day 1932 The Chicago Bears beat the Portsmouth Spartans 9-0 in the 1st ever Championship Game now why mention this note in sport history.

Well just like on Sunday here in Detroit, the Chicago area was sock with a winter blizzard so they did not used there home field at the time Wrigley Field so they move the game the home of the NHL Chicago Black Hawks "Chicago Stadium" in what was called the 1st NFL game played indoors and not only that pre-date the Arena Football League by 55 years [1st season was in 1987].

And not only that with Minnesota Vikings victory over the Bears last night knock out of playoff contention The Bears, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Portsmouth Spartans, AKA these days as the Detroit Lions.[That mean the 50 years cursed continued.]

But to Briten up the Mood, It a Birthday-plalzooa today, Rolling Stones Keith Richards is still alive and still well and worst still rocking at 64, film director Steven Spielberg is 61, film critic and a guy who you seen on ET every night at 7:30 on 7 [WXYZ-TV] is 57, Jasper Guilty pleasure Singer Christina Aguilera is 27, actress Rachel Griffiths is 39, wrestler Stone Cold Steve Austin is 43 so as fellow wrestler Trish Stratus is 32 so as Rob Van Dam who 37, DJ Lethal fo the House of Pain & Limp Bizkit is 35, Miss. Tom Curise and a native of Near by Toledo, Ohio Katie Holmes is 29, Actor Brad Pitt is 44.

And the Hardest working man in Detroit Rock and roll who still live in Detroit Mick Collins is 42 and resting up for the march released of "We Have You Surrounded" which will have a CD released on New Music Tuesday February 12th and alive show at the Stick on February 16th

To celebrate it here a couple of video:

An evening with Crispin Glover

For this episode we were fortunate enough to sit down with actor and director Crispin Glover, who was in San Francisco to promote his new film, It is Fine, Everything is Fine! at the Castro Theatre. This is the second film in a trilogy that he’s been working on for years, and he was able to tell us about the background and process by which he came to make them. We also were able to learn about how he chooses his mainstream film roles, and what his plans are for the future.

Joe Strummer's London Calling

Clash frontman and global hero Joe Strummer died five years ago on 22nd December 2002. He was only 50 years old.

In 2001 producer Simon Barnett persuaded Joe to turn DJ on the World Service for two series of half-hour programmes. Joe was given free rein, he plundered his own record collection and obviously took great pleasure in sharing his favourite music from all over the world - from artists that influenced him in his youth through to new releases.

This week, as a tribute to Joe, 6 Music Plays It Again presents highlights from the second series of Joe's unique shows.
