CD Released gig Maddness in Detroit

Never in the like of music gig in the Detroit metro area
there have nerve been so many CD release gigs in one weekend
in one city all in the same time

i know have one big show to released you brand new album so all you local fans can get the album but this is too much.

There is a grand total of five CD released show
this weekend in the motor city

So to break it down
this is:

1 - tonight
4 - Saturday Night
2 - Downtown Detroit

1 - inter burds [Hamtramck]
1 - Pontiac
9 - Opening Band
8 - are from Detroit
1 - from outside the 313
all of them are head lineing expect for one
and i know almost all of them will be filled

i know never even in the heights of the early 2000's Detroit rock explosion there have been five CD released show happened at the same weekend and four going on at the same time on the same day.

so with almost ever show happening out there i should put a list of which show is playing where, who headlining and who is playing to opening up the night.

Band: The Displays
CD: Aint Gonna Put Us Down
Opener: Smashed Windows and Woodman
Venue: Garden Bowl
Location: Midtown
Cover: Free

This is the only Friday Night show on the CD release gig tour and the only Free show among the five gig, after a released a handful of EP, the teenage band fronted by Andrew Heckler released the Jim Diamond produce CD of old school Garage rock which clock in at almost 25 minutes, also they have a new line up with The Crooks drummer Josh Cohen and Ben Van Camp.

As always they put on a great show and opening up will be Alt country fave AMERICAN MARS, up and comers THE FOUR HOUR FRIENDS, and student from THE PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK.

Band: Malbec
Opener: Love Meets Lust
CD: "Bitter Company"
Venue: The Shelter

The only bands out of the five where the local band is not the headliner, the Frendale base electro-pop band they have been compair to Cure and Depeche Mode have play the Hamtramck blowout back in March and just got back fro a west coast tour they are opening up for the LA Band Malbec and you might want to get there early because this show will fill up.

Band: The Hentcmen
CD: 4 track Vinyl EP

And Just up the road on Park Ave is a record released gig put on by the Bellyache Records Record Release Party as they released there a four track Vinyl EP and not only that John & Mike Hentch birthday so get the EP and say happy birthday to both Hentch.

Band: Javelins
CD: "Heavy Meadows"
Opener: Nouns, Lightning Love
Venue: The Belmont
Location: Hamtramck
Cover: $ 5

And last but not least if you can't go a long way to pointaic or don't feel like going downtown Detroit there always the Belmont in Hamtramck as a little bit of love from Suburban Sprawl Music Label where "Javelins" will released "Heavy Meadows" with a gig at the Belmont, and opening up for them will be Nouns and the fast rising band from Lansing, the very pretty and very quirky "Lightning Love"

And there you have it five gig almost 14 bands and about five new CD released from the Culture City, Now since i can't be at almost every gig this weekend, I want to know how was the gig this weekend

The Live And Local review

Film School
with Prussia and Velveteen Rabbit
Magic Stick
July 24, 2008

Early September of 2007
the culture city news HQ [my house]
me prepping for "NEW MUSIC TUESDAY"

i was checking all the wonderful music that was coming out on that Tuesday on that September day until i check in on the my space page for the San Francisco-based indie rock band "Film School" i check it and i fell in love with there sound witch remind me of the all fave shoe gazing band "My Bloody Valentine"

and i saw they had a Detroit show on the horizon, But it was in Pontiac at the Pike Room at the Crofoot rats and it is a little bit far too far, so i did not go.

rewind almost ten months later and the show i was going to see back on October 30 play close to the the HQ of this blog sight and was no way in was going to spik this show despite
late breaking news on the TV

the show which start a little bit around 11 PM was a very cool sonic sounding gig with the wonderful film back drop that goes great which there crunching guitars and hunting vocals between lead singer Greg Bertens and Bass player Lorelei Plotczyk[who is a very cool person.] as they played alot of song from there latest album "Hideout" they came soo good live.

They do remind me a little bit of "My Bloody Valentine" with there sound and some body told me that the sound remind them off "Sonic Youth" with there noise distortion with i see that.

Now they got not one but two good local opener, velveteen rabbit played first [altohght i miss about a 1/3 of it because i came in late] they sound real good with great vocals from there lead singer and i like how they mix the Violin in the music and it really sound good near the end.

Also playing there was the was the band i mention a few weeks ago when they sing to the Common Cloud Records label for there released of there new Album "Dear Emily, Best Wishes, Molly" and it was the band Prussia and this wonderful three member band was warm up for there released as they play a good set songs including the lead off single of there new album "Supreme Beging"

So Overall it was a good night of indie music in the culture city and if "My Bloody Valentine" don't do a Detroit reunion show in the near distance further, then last night headliners "Film School" Will be OK

END

DIVORCE ITALIAN STYLE
(Italy/1961- directed by Pietro Germi)

Baron Cefalù (the brilliant Marcello Mastroianni) longs to marry his nubile cousin Angela (Stefania Sandrelli of The Conformist), but one obstacle stands in his way: his fawning wife, Rosalia (Daniela Rocca). His solution? Since divorce is illegal, he hatches a plan to lure Roslaia into the arms of another and then murder her in a justifiable effort to “save his honor.” Pietro Germi’s hilarious satire of Sicilian male-chauvinist culture won the 1962 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, though it was originally conceived as a drama until it became apparent that the absurdity lurking at the story’s core was a bitterly funny comedy in disguise. The Anvil is Leaving the Hard Lesions by end of the year

The Hard Lessions
From L to R: The Anvil, Ko Ko Louise, Gin

Late breaking news as i write this, the brand New Metrotimes is already out on the street and will appear any minutes now online at metrotimes.com

but, in a posting on the Metrotimes Music Blag Blog

it look like the drummer for the Hard Lesions Christophe Zajac-Denek (aka The Anvil) is planning to relocate to the West Coast by the end of this year, there fore leaving the hard lesions by the end of the year

So The Anvil will be behind the drum kit from now until the end of the year so they will play this Saturday Night at the Crofoot in Pontiac this Saturday to celebrate the released of B&G Sides on CD

Lead singer Augie Viccochi, told the metrotimes “"[Christophe] will be playing with us for the next several months, so nothing is immediate by any means. But it definitely will be a transitional time for us. Everything is totally amicable, of course, and we've all had a great time playing together. But Christophe's moving onto a new chapter in his life, although everything's still somewhat uncertain at the moment."

SO the big question for the further will the "Hard Lesions" be a three members or will it be just Ko and Augie as a two pieced as they will go into the studio after Ko and Augie get married in August for a new album which they have start writhing and it will be produce by Electric Six's Zach Shipps

It will all be in the metrotimes with the "Hard Lessons on the cover
in print an on-line.

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY - -WEEK 29 [2008]

Today is Tuesday, July 22nd and it was on this day in 1999 that music equipment belonging to the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion was stolen in Vancouver B.C. two weeks after a slimalr thief when Sonic youth vintage and customized gear was stolen in Near by Orange County, Calif.

Those two as alone with the thief of music gear of Cibo Matto around the same time lead to highting awareness of protecting you gear wield on tour, thank god we have not have any stolne gear alter scene then.

and i want to make a correction to some thing i mention on this blog sight Marky Ramone[who have a birthday last week] was the last of the original member of the "The Ramones" still with us.

Well after a little bit of double checking, it turn out he was not a original member of the pioneering punk band, he was a replacement for there original drummer Tommy Ramone who is still alive today at the age of 59, he was the drummer from 1974 to 1978 when he left the drum kit to handle the band management and co-productce their fourth album, "Road to Ruin" and was replace by Marky Ramone from 1979 to there last gig in 1996.

Just to set the record streaght

And just last last week
a pause for the Ramones
"Gabba gabba hey"

And now all today new music on the birthday of Rufus Wainwright[35 and also born in 1973.], HBK Shawn Michaels [43 and still Wrestling], Music singer, songwriter, guitarist, audio engineer and music journalist Steve Albini [46], comedian and Former SNL cast members David Spade [44], and one of the best female foreign actress out there Franka Potente is 34, if you don't know what film you remember her that made her a star, it this film:

What is "Run Lola Run"

You are Correct as Alex Trebek would say on Jeopardy! who turn 68 and still hosting Jeopardy! the last 24 years even on

We travel back for a final time to 1992. A year that saw Windsor Castle burn, Clinton become President, and Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson separate.

Legendary Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards, joined Simon Bates at Radio 1 to publicise his solo album, Main Offender. He spoke candidly to the DJ about his love of touring, kicking his heroin addiction and the reasons behind his very-public feud with Mick Jagger.

Not only is this one of the most frank interviews Bates has done throughout his career, but it is also one of the only times that a guest has admitted to having a pistol with them in their bag.
