It is Friday, April 20th
and it the weekend with the Sky outside will be nice with temp in thlow 70's all weekend
before i go to the local news, if you are asking yourself if i when to the Detroit Music Awards in Downtown Detroit i did not when to it i did not want to sit in the third Floor Balcony, like last year.
So i will post something about the show this weekend[From My web sourced with my own opinion about the Whold thing.]
i want to clear up one thing before i give you the News, a few week ago on the Next to last Liz Copeland show on WDET-FM when he have the One and only "Sterling" it was mention that Liz would program the 2nd Ave. stage at Comerica Cityfest, well i saw
Sterling at the Yo La Tango show on Wednesday and he clear one thing up that Liz will program two night at the 2nd Ave. Stage and May DJ a night at City fest which would be awesome and it would be cool if we full the whole 2nd Ave. to show our support For Liz.
Speaking of Cityfest on Monday it was announce to the Detroit Free Press a new band have just sing to played the main stage at Comerica Cityfest.
Let Me Give you a few clues before i can give you the Name fo that band.
- this band was from in 1968 in the Chicago suburb of Rockford, Illinois
- For the last ten years they have released music on there own
so you may want to called them a old indie band
- They have pop up on Movie sound tracks since 1979 which include "Top Gun", "Heavy Metal","Joe Dirt","Daddy Day Care", and "Detroit Rock City"
- And Last but Not leased one of there well Know Songs is in Guitar Hero II for the playstation 2 and XBOX 360.
if you did not know who this band is well friend you where Caught in a
Cheap Trick
the band have join a impress line-up that will feather
Femi Kuti (July 4)
R&B singer Bobby "Blue" Bland(date TBA)
The Wailers (July 5)
"Weird Al" Yankovic (July 5)
indie rock band Spoon(July 4)
"Carl Craig and Planet E Communications presents " (July 4)
Hot Club of Detroit(July 6)
and the Detroit Soul and Blues Revue that will feature Sir Mack Rice,Alberta Adams and Johnnie Bassett (July 8).
The Full Line up and set time will be Announcer in a few week and i am working hard on with my serect Molds to find out more news bands that are playing Cityfest this year and you know that Culture city will be all over the New Center Area on the 4th of July Weekend.
And one other local bit of news that was broke by Japer, the web vomit guy and have been pick up by almost ever Music blog that i know, the Henchman's will released a C.D. of there old '45 records it will be called "Hentch.Forth.Five." it will have 14-songs that was originally released back in 1998 on an EP, a 12", and two singles, all "remixed and remastered by Dan Currie and it include a very young Jack White playing in almost every track.
yes the same jack white who in the white stripes, according to the band that Jack played bass on a bunch, contributes lead guitar to three tunes, and is lead vocal on "Some Other Guy", plus he also backup vocals on several other tracks.
Front man John Szymanski said "should be out in about two months" which is the 10th anniversary of the label that released it Italy Records.
when we heard it will let you know.
on To the Other news outside the 313
There was couple of bands sing to some Label last week, Sweden band "Shout Out Louds" who released the wonderful 2004 "Howl Howl Gaff Gaff" have jump label jumping from Capitol to on of the hottest indie right now Merge and will released there second album which is called "Our Ill Wills" Which was produced the Bjorn of "Peter Bjorn and John".
The album will be out in the US on September 11.
Also singing to a indie as well is "Architecture in Helsinki" who sing to the Polyvinyl Record Company who will released there third album "Places Like This" on Aug. 7. In addition, the new single "Heart It Races", as well as several different remixes and cover versions of the song, will be released on CD, 12" and digital formats on June 5.
And According to SPIN.com, it look like that the run of the animation cartoon band "Gorillaz" will hid out at a sercet location for the near distact future, the main voice for the band Damon Albarn told BBC Radio 2 that the soundtrack score to a film by Monty Python director and actor Terry Gilliam will be the last time you ever Hear 2D, Noodles, Russel, and Murdoc, saying "there won't be another pop record." Albarn have been busy with his other side project "the Good, the Bad, and the Queen" and may be the reunion of Blur.
i have added a a listen of the New album that are steaming on Line right now before you by it the new section of the site is called the listen booth and that where you find the new album from "Arctic Monkeys", "Midnight Movies" Western Michigan "The Icicles" and "The Winterpills" all of them are the full album for free and steaming and depending on the sight where is coming from [myspace or a E-card] it will be up for one to three weeks.
And if you want to know this week NASCAR race is in Phoenix.
Have a good weekend.

Live gig Review -Yo La Tango - The Majestic Theather - Midtown Detroit - April 18th, 2007
It Was Good and Mellow as one of my fave bands the NYC Band "Yo La Tango" play a really good 90 Minutes set at the Majestic Theater in Midtown Detroit.
They Started off the set with there classic From A Motel 6 and after that they really, really Jam out to a pretty good size crowd, as they played mostly from lated album "I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass" [yes kids, that is the title] it was mostly insermatl as they rock out to all they song the crowd was enjoying it, even if i don't all there songs they were really great as they play there song.
also when they did there encore they played on of my fave song "Sugarcube" from "I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One" also they have there opening band from "New Times Vikings" as they did some cover for two songs and that was fun to see.
they did come back for one more and it was a quite song as Drummer Georgia Hubley sang a song from a album which i cant remember the name of and it have a dance hall fell to it as i cam close up to the stage i saw a lot of the fans dance to a smooth song.
It was cool and it was mellow night all around.
The Opening band the Columbus,Ohio band "times new viking" was very fun to watch and listen to as they do there lo-fi Rock as they play song from "The Paisley Reich" which is on a indie label and new song for there debut on Matador Records.
So that is the report from the field in Detroit Culture City.

He was voted out of the crap show tonight after wounding up in the bottom two with of all people the Flint contestant LaKisha Jones who did not do well last night with the country music Format.
When Ryan Seacrest made the producer and the Judges happy when he said his name "I'm fine", "It was an amazing experience." he sang off to the Sunset by singing Bonnie Raitt - "Something to Talk About".
Minutes later the sight that began it all the Howard Stern run votefortheworst.com was this post:
"Well it couldn't last forever! Great work everyone on helping Sanjaya make the top 7, he's now the all time VFTW record holder. But as classic Worsters know, we always move on to someone new. Who will it be? Phil? Chris? Someone else? Sound off on the message board and let us know your opinion. We'll have an informal poll up soon to see what the general consensus is. It's so sad to lose our VFTW king, but we can't stop bugging the producers, they'd like that too much! So stay tuned and let's remember how much fun it was to help keep Sanjaya in the running for so long! Time to move on to Idol Gives Back, where the producers get corporations to donate money yet donate nothing out of their own ridiculously huge paychecks!"
Well All of Culture City gave it a good run for about the two weeks i did it
Howard Sten was a big help.
And Now that Idol will make the Next Star that will make millions sick to the ears
There always Countdown with Ketih Olbermann on MSNBC Every Night at 8 PM

Bearking News - The Virgina Tech Shooting
Now i know that this blog sight is a indie culture and indie music blog sight with half focus each on what is going on inside the 313[local music and culture] and outside the 313 [on a lot of indie bands and stuff on-line and On-aired].
So this is not a hard News sight, But today is a very sad day as the nation is in moring today as the news follow the worst massacer in US history.
it should be mention on the sight.
at least 33 people were shot dead at the main Campus of Virgina Tech University in Blackburg, VA [36 miles west of Roanoke, VA] that included the shooter who then turn the gun on him self, this is what we know for the moment on the time line.
this from the Wiki page:
[Please note: This is from Wikipedia and may not be correct]
7:15 a.m.: A 9-1-1 emergency call to Virginia Tech Police reports a shooting at West Ambler Johnston Hall, leaving one person dead and another wounded.
9:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.: Shooter opens fire in classroom in Norris Hall, an engineering building.
9:26 a.m.: Emails go out to campus staff and faculty saying there has been a shooting on campus.
9:50 a.m.: An email announcing: "A gunman is loose on campus. Stay in buildings until further notice. Stay away from all windows" is sent to all Virginia Tech email addresses.
10:52 a.m.: Follow up email goes to Virginia Tech campus regarding shooting
12:00 p.m.: At a press conference, authorities said there may have been more than 21 people killed and 28 injured.
2:30 p.m.: AP reports at least 31 killed, including gunman.
3:40 p.m.: Virginia Tech confirms 22 dead.
4:01 p.m.: President Bush speaks from the White House regarding the shooting.
4:42 p.m.: Virginia Tech confirms 33 dead including the shooter.
two people were killed at West Ambler Johnston Hall
30 were killed at Norris Hall
about 15 were wounded
this is the worst civilian shooting in United States, wrost than Luby's Cafeteria massacre in Texas[1991, 23 killed], worst then Columbine [1999, 16 killed], worst then clock tower shooting at the University of Texas at Austin[1966, 16 killed]but it is the second worst school-related killing since 45 people were killed when a bomb destroy a school house in Bath, Michigan[which is 10 Miles outside Lansing.
the big question begin ask tonight why did the collage did not lock down the campus after the first shooting, which issued two hours after the second shooting happened.
there is plenty on this on TV and on the web.
But to all of culture city in Detroit our thought and prayer are to the Families of those who lost there lives today.
[And if you area a Detroit area person who go to Virgina Tech, and if you OK pleased send you Comment down on the post below or E-mail me at Culturecitynewstips[at]yahoo[dot]com and tell what happened from your point of view.]

the big question begin ask tonight why did the collage did not lock down the campus after the first shooting, which issued two hours after the second shooting happened.
there is plenty on this on TV and on the web.
But to all of culture city in Detroit our thought and prayer are to the Families of those who lost there lives today.

BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE: STUDIO 54 UNCOVERED
Tuesday - 5:33 PM
This is the story of how one New York nightclub came to be the spiritual home of disco. And part of its downfall. Boy George looks back on the most decadent disco in history: Studio 54, which opened its doors thirty years ago this April. It’s a tale of hedonism, ambition and sheer abandon that within three years was snuffed out forever. Forget punk, disco music is the most influential, popular and lasting cultural phenomenon from thirty years ago. Studio 54 became a symbol of that era, hugely popular yet short lived, democratic yet elitist, hedonistic yet self destructive. Outside its door, bondage trousers, safety pins and a well thumbed copy of the NME impressed no one.
THE SINATRA TRAIL
Fridays - 4:03 PM
Michael Freedland presents a four-part series looking at the life of Frank Sinatra as seen through the eyes of those who knew him. This will not be a series featuring stars, the obvious names of a few remaining contemporaries who like to think some of Sinatra's glory will rub off on them. Instead, accompanied by appropriate music, Frank's biographer Michael Freedland will talk to people whose lives were influenced by him - even if he did not know it himself

The Film Gudie Top 10
And we have a lot of winners
and at the same time a lot of
box office lossers
First the Winners

also a winner was "300" the film finnish in 9th place with $4.3 million which take it $200.8 million, the first film this year to do so.
and beleavr it or not there was a ton of losers this weekend
big time losers if you follow films expect for thouse die hard fans
The big losser was the three hours Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's double-feature "Grindhouse" it loss over 63% of the take to finsh at the bottom of the top 10 after a very, very week opening weekend last weekend $11.6 million
other films dont ask.
Half of this week new films made the top 10
you know "Disturbia" at No.1 but the other two films made the top ten with so-so take, The high bissness muders flick "Perfect Stranger," with Bruce Willis and Halle Berry took the No. 4 spot with $11.5 million.
"Pathfinder" the story about a Viking boy raised by Indians in pre-Columbus North America, lump in at No. 6 with $4.8 million.
and the rest of the other new films, well you find out about them after the rest of the top Ten.

And what about the other New released, well they finish out of the top 10 as Flops
Big time
The crime thriller "Slow Burn," about as a prosecutor taking on a gang leader that have Ray Liotta and LL Cool J burn out quickly with just a small Box office take of $800,000, that week and worst it hold back on the film for reviewers.
the Movie version of the cartoon network film "Aqua Teen Hunger Force" which was called "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters" which cause a scare in boston back in January when a guerrilla promotion campang when horroable bad thinking there were bomb all over boston. it took in $3.1 million but finnish out of the top 10.
But this week worst in show in the box office went to the street-racing Film "red- line" now you may remember this nutty stunt a few weeks back with there star Eddie Griffin.
Budget for the movie: $26 million
number of cars destroyed during filming of the film: 2
Price of the Rare Ferrari Enzo: $1.5 Million
This Opening weekend take of "Red-Line": $4 million[did not make the top 10]
