Culture City Update

i dont have time to write a full review because i am getting ready to go out tonight, but i willl have some thing to say about the just in rating of Show #2 of The Next Great American Band on Monday.

This Quicky of a report is from Media Week Marc Berman on www.pifeedback.com and i got to tell you it not looking good despit the muggs beging on it.

-Ratings Breakdown:

CBS dominated this typically lackluster Friday, with a first-place finish in total viewers and adults 18-49. Second overall was NBC, followed by ABC, the CW and the home of colossal dud The Next Great American Band on Fox. The Next Great American Band sunk to a mere 2.87 million viewers and a 1.2 rating/4 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that was a decrease of 740,000 viewers and 20 percent in the demo from its already disappointing debut one week earlier (Viewers: 3.61 million; A18-49: 1.5/ 5 on Oct. 19, 2007). Was there any real need for Fox to try to clone American Idol?

The Culture City Review - "The Next Great American Band" - Show 2

Friday night was show No. 2 of the very So-So "The Next Great American Band" now noranlly i would not review such like this if it have any good band but as a local blogger i am blogging about becau one of the hardest working band in all of Detroit "The Muggs" are on the show.

Now if you read my review of the audition show i did not like 80% of the show which is mostly a rehase of the American Idols formal but with rock band, the big buzz all over the Detroit rock scene was the muggs begin on this show, but now in the muggs wolud say if they made it.

Well last week they made the National TV debut to show the country that Detroit rock and roll still alive and well as they torn up the additions and impress the judges with there gritty grimmy rock as they went thur to the live show as part of the final 12.

Well, here we are almost a week later and the mega live show to willow down to the top band in this completion, now the setting is a combination of show on fox like 'Don't forget the lyrics" and the only show i can stand 'SO you can think you can dance"[Which the top 10 live show stop by the Joe Louis Arena next Saturday]with the crowd look like a mid-size gig at the magic stick at mid-week.

the Live show round is made up with two song, one song is a song from a theme of the show and a original song of there own, and for this week show all 12 bands cover the music of the one and only "Bob Dylan"

Now the Muggs was the 7th band on the show as they start the 2nd hour of the show, the Dylan cover they did was "Meet Me in the Morning" from the 1975 album "Blood on the Tracks" and they did a good job in hitting a home run with that song and they hammer it and hammer it well.

The Next song they did was one of there own song "Slow Curve" which they also did a fine job rocking out in playing on TV and i was wonderful to see, two of the three Judges on the show Goo Goo Dolls Johnny Rzeznik and Drummer Shelia E. love the band and here what they say.

[From the web blog from Detroit News Melody Baetens on detnews.com]

Johnny Rzeznik: (to Danny) You are my guitar hero. Man, you guys are tight. You can really feel the bond between you guys. God bless you guys.

Sheila E.: You guys are one of my favorite bands. I've been waiting to hear you guys since the first time I saw you. I love you guys.

But Australian record producer Ian "Dicko" Dickson was sort of impress sort off: I love you guys but this competition is all about improving and I have to say you're a great guitarist. You're not a great singer. Some of these bands have singers that aren't great singers, but they attack it. You approach the mic like it has something nasty on it. Get over it.

Now in Defence of Danny who i have seen the band sixth times in my lifetime Danny Muggs do the best he can with the music he crank out it is not the best in all Detroit but with this style of the music it is good as it can be.

as for the rest of the bands that i can stand on the show that i did give some love to last week the LA all-girls rock band "ROCKET" was OK there original was very good [dont ask me what song was playing because i was at a live show after the show at 10 PM] but i did not like there cover of the classic Dylan tune "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" now Guns and rose did a great cover of the song [and belived or not it is the most cover Dylan song ever record with version from The Grateful Dead, Aerosmith, Mark Knopfler, Wyclef Jean, Eric Clapton, Warren Zevon, U2, Television, Guided By Voices,Avril Lavigne, and Bon Jovi], But "ROCKET" cover of that song was not good it look like it was mangle and to tell you the turth was not very good.

The Other band on the show i did give some love last week was the chicago band Dot, Dot,Dot and to tell you the thurt they was not that good this week and the Judge were not felling it they did not like this too, When you look at it there beging to remind me of a Less Dramaict Co-Ed Version [3 guys and 2 Girls] of a band that i can not stand "My Chemical Romance" and one who know me know i can not stand it so the band is off my radar for a little whiel.

as for the other bands on the show, well to tell you the turth i did like the kids metal band "Light of Doom" now they was great as they rock out to there songs, but i do aggre on one point to couple of member of the band, Put your shirts on.

as for the rest of the bands on the show to tell the turth just like last week none of the other eight band extict me because mostly they played stuff that sound like the boring pop music i have heard already and a bunch of catitgory that i dont care about and a few bands either make me go to sleep or worst hoping the bartender at Small Nat change the channel to the Red Wings game that was going on at the same time.

Now i was hopeding to put the numbers for the muggs but i saw tonight show at small in hamtramck where only 11 people show up and not only that the bar opend at the same time as the show so i did not post the phone No. but we wont know if the muggs survied because unlike america Idols,so you think you can dance and Danceing with the stars, there is no follow up show the next day so we have to wait if the muggs survied at the start of the next show Next Friday

the big question with this show was any one watching this show last week show finish dead last in total viewer and next to last with taget demo 18-49, so will any one care will know as soon as the Fast market station come up.

one more thing before i go FOX 2 news have a report on "the Muggs" on there news cast last night it was on 17 mintues in there news cast and it was reported in at there home bar the Cadieux Cafe, to see the report you can
click on here.

France—1962—directed by Jean-Pierre Melville)

From the director of the great Army of Shadows comes this newly restored, rarely-shown masterwork that follows the unpredictable fates of two criminals – Jean-Paul Belmondo and Serge Reggiani – as they slink through the wet streets of Paris with their raincoats, pistols and fedoras at the ready. But could one of them be the doulos (the “squealer” in underworld slang)? And if so, who and why? Featuring one of the most breathtaking shots in all of Melville’s work (an eight-minute police grilling done in a single, 360° pan), The New York Times’ Manohla Dargis wrote that “Melville’s brutal and subtly brilliant policier Le Doulos underscores why the French put the name to film noir. The camera and the actors move in a silent conspiracy, revealing more about the true nature of a man far in advance of any line of dialogue. This new 35mm print makes it even easier to swoon into its darkness.” In French with English subtitles. (108 min.)

The Culture City Poll

Now here something i have been thinking for a little wheid since Blogger [Started putting this as part of there main sight] a little Culture City Poll.

And almost all day today depending if you go out or not have been Detroit Own muggs begin on the Fox Reality show "The Next Great American Band", It is mostly Battle of the band meet America Idols now all the Detroit base blog was happy to See Danny, Tony and Matt all in the National Spotlight and they move on to the live show next Friday.

If you read my early post [that took over 90 minutes to wirte today] i did some love to the LA Powerpop all Girl band ROCKET and some love to the Chicago Poperpop emo band Dot,Dot,Dot.

But From almost all the local blog i read There was giving the love to The Muggs and at the same time Ripping the Whole show over mostly over the band and the music which was total crap and worst how this show is no Americas Idols.

So i Put a Poll that will stay open Before the Next show which is on Friday at 8 PM on FOX, But before i put the question here are the Three Bands from the show 1st from the show and a song from there live set.

The Muggs

From The Show

Live Set

ROCKET

From The Show

Live Set

Dot,Dot,Dot

From The Show

Live Set

So taking the pulse of all Culture City
Out of the three band that i give some love

Which is the better Band

- The Muggs
- ROCKET
- Dot,Dot,Dot
- Some Other Band on the show
- Hey Countdown is on Friday at 8 PM on MSNBC

I will Be Open until 7:30 on Friday

My ReVIew of The Next Great American Band with the Muggs in it

I Hoped you have a good weekend i know i did with the run to the book Store to buy the NME with Radiohead on the cover and nothing much expect fanesty Football and the lions winning over the Tampa Bay Bucs 23-16 to go to 4-2 going to next week big game against the Defending NFC Champs Chicago Bears.

But i want to talk about the Premier of "The Next Great American Band" which aired on Fox on Friday now i was going to called Small's in Hamtramck to see if there was a crowd there, but my mom was on the phone so if was fought and i have little time because i was out fo the house for a little bit.

Now this show was buzz about here in the Detroit area because our owned "the Muggs" were on the show and with the word that they were in the top 12 on the show but it was not confirm by FOX or anyone, but as you know word go around fast.

The Muggs where part of a These up in the show intro in the first few minutes and was thes up aging before the second half of the show[9 P.M.] and thanks to this clip on the you tube they appeared at 9:02 PM:

Now for any of you outside the 313 who read my blog sight want moan and groin about it, I am here to tell you it a real legit story and yes it really did happened as it said on the video back in 2001 "The Muggs" was one fo the New Bands just before the Gardge rock revial here playing the scene and in Mid 2001 there bass player Tony DeNardo [AKA Tony Muggs in the Scene] Stuffer a near Fatly Storke which paralyzed the right side of his body and left him not talking.

The Other two member of the band guitarist Dan Methric and drummer Matt Rost put the band on Hold for about two years as Tony when to intest physical therapy and support from Friend and Family and Fan Alike Tony got better in the two years since the stoke, Now the Muggs resume there career as a band in 2003 and because of the stoke Tony could not used the bass Gitars so the band start useing a Fender Rhodes keyboard so Tony Used his left hand with his Left hand.

I have got to see the Muggs in Over a Half a Dozen times in the Detroit and i got to tell you there are a great band and it was really great to see them on a national Stage on TV and i thought they play a great song that will as Jonny Resneck on the Goo Goo Dolls would wake any one up.

Now i was hoping to review the Crowd reaction at Small's Bar in Hamtramck but i was hammper but the timming issued, But According to Detroit News Local Music Writer Melody Baetens on the Entertainment Blog on detnews.com
[Link Here] the Crowd at Small's was glued to the big screen, nobody even touched the jukebox until the entire episode was over, Over at there home bar Cadieux Cafe in Detroit East Side, Follow detnews.com blogger Diana McNary said every time the Muggs were shown on screen the crowd the whole bar exploded in cheers, Whled back in Hamtramck at the Belmont a handful of people watch the show and told Melody Baetens
that never seen the muggs live but where the best bands in the show.

Other than "The Muggs" and two other bands, I thought the Show was a major disappointment, this show is from the same persons from that show that i will never cover "America Idols", and it take the very same format and put it to in a Diffencec Format and that is a Rock band competition.

the whole show was giving the setting was too cut and Paste and too boring giving the band they showed and honest most of the bands on that show did not excited me or got my insert to go on my space to be on there Friends list and got to tell you where did they get the bands for the show because most of the bands on the show was total crap anyway.

and one more thing for anybody programing a talent competition stop copying the the Simon,Paula, and Randy Format it is getting to bland and to overused, 1st the head Judge Ian Dickson [Who gose by Dick-o]i was wondering have he every listen to real music, Proable not, the two other Judges Sheila E.[The Kind one], Johnny Rziznik[Season pro]are so bland it just like listening to a new record and telling them there new CD stuck after 6 Monts of work putting together.

But there is on thing i can releated to when Ian Dickson was force to lister to about Five or six bad band in a row he walk out for a little wheld, now when i do New Music Tuesday [The Post about new Music that i do every Tuesday on this blog sight] i force to go on there myspace page to here the band that i have never here before and if i listen or stop at a band who music i dont follow like Jazz, R and B or Country i do get nut for a Whelid.

There was a few bands that i did like Other then the Muggs, i did like the Surband L.A. all female band ROCKET. Now to tell you the thuth before any one hear of this show i was a fan of this band via Myspace they send me a my space invited and before i join there friend list i listen to there powerpop rock and i really like them so it good they got some love.

and one other band i also like is the Chicago base Dot,Dot,Dot it sort of like Indie pop meet OK Emo, and they remind me a little bit of the LA Band 'Shiney Toys Guns" with a little midwesten Edge

Both Band Made the Final 12 bands for the live show and yes even our Muggs also made the Final 12 as well as the Detroit Rock City will vote them in beging this Friday at 8 PM i know all of Detroit will be watching but the big question will everybody be watching the rating for the 1st show was not hopeful it finish 5th in total viewers and was 4th in the 18-49 Demo so it not a good sing of the show.

But if you want to watch in On Next Friday at 8 PM on FOX[WJBK, FOX-2 - Detroit]and if i am home on Friday or out on Friday Watching the Show i post a post with a Phone Number or a link to the show.
