playing this week at DFT at the D.I.A.:
Main Film this weekend:
ANGEL-A
(France/2006) directed by Luc Besson
Incompetent Parisian schemer and petty hood André (Jamel Debbouze) is at the end of his rope–irreversibly in debt to a local gangster, with no one to turn to, his only solution is to drown himself in the Seine. But when he finally jumps it’s to save Angela (Rie Rasmussen), a beautiful and mysterious stranger who’s taken the plunge ahead of him. As this unlikely duo form a bond, André begins to discover that not all debts are financial—and that sometimes hope is found in the unlikeliest of places. The new film from France’s Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Fifth Element) is one of his most stylish and sweetly surprising: a love letter to both Paris and to the Hollywood traditions that inspired him. In French with English subtitles. (90 min.)
Playing Saturday at 7:00 PM and 9:30 PM and Sunday 4:00 and 7:00 PM
and this Weekend Films to celeabart the Monster Films as showen as the Ceather feather double feather that being at 2 P.M.
EARTH VS. THE FLYING SAUCERS
Legendary saucer effects by visual wizard Ray Harryhausen spice up this fast-moving tale of a fleet of desperate, soon-to-be-homeless aliens out to conquer the Earth and take up residence. Fortunately for our side, Earth is well represented by Dr. Russsel A. Marvin (sci-fi veteran Hugh Marlowe), a brilliant scientist who, together with his brand-new, beautiful scientist bride (Joan Taylor), is in no mood to give up his home planet without a fight. One of the most enjoyable sci-fi epics of its day was the blueprint for the countless invasion movies that followed, from Independence Day to Mars Attacks! (which quite intentionally “borrowed” this movie’s saucer design).
MOTHRA
The original Japanese classic Mothra (1961, directed by Ishiro Honda), the story of a gigantic, havoc-wreaking moth, and the foot-tall twin fairies (sisters Yumi and Emi Ito) who control him telepathically while singing.
Playing This Week at the discount theater in Warren

Greg Base no longer book er at the Magic Stick
No this is big news, big time
i got the story last night from a couple of good moles, one of them i did not trush at 1st but i talk to a couple of other mole backing up the 1st mole
but this is big.
My mid-town bus rat mole are telling me that long time Booker at the magic stick Greg Base have left, according to my moles that he put in his two-weeks notice on Tuesday[for tho used who don't understand business, A Two-weeks noticed is common in the work place to notify your employer that you are leaving your job for a brand new job elsewhere], but instead of finish out the two weeks, according to my moles that on Wednesday Management at the magic Stick did not let him in the building after they got his two week notice.
Now before you jump to wild conclusion, let me point out two things: one Greg Base have been there for a long time, so i was time to feel in his mind to move on and goes something elsewhere [Which i get to in just a moment]
and two don't forget this is the concert business so if somebody leave one place for new place and some time the don't what you to hang around with two weeks left.
as for Greg further now that he is no longer at the stick in back grounding this story, a 4th source i myspacer today told me that he have a new job at a new club in of all places Pontiac, My Sourced did not give me any detail.
And as of this typing i don't know who is now booking shows at the stick.
If you want to add any info on this story you can leave them on the comment page of E-Mail this blog sight at Culturecitynewstips[at]yahoo[dot]com.

So, the story is, last night we played in Tucson at solar culture. afterward, we loaded our stuff up, went downtown, had a drink, and went to a house to crash on the floor. en route, we damaged a door, making it such that the door won't close and such that eventually, before we return the vehicle to the rental company, we'll have to pay on the order of 2 grand to replace the door.
seeing as how we had an unsecured vehicle, ray (castanets) slept in the van. sometime during the night, some brave fuck(s) very quietly opened the back door and took what they could carry. we assume their were more than one of them given all the shit they managed to walk away with. we're gathering what serial numbers we can, but in the meantime, here's a rudimentary list:

The series is shot through with many film clips and soundtracks plus interviews with Rita Tushingham, Shirley-Anne Field, Sir Richard Rodney Bennett, Dora Bryan, Albert Finney, David Storey, Wendy Craig, Ken Loach, the legendary cinematographer Walter Lassally and many more.

The Film Gudie Top 10
Well the weekend is almost over and we a winner, winner, winner and Steve Carell Family Film sequel to Jim Carrey "Bruce Almighty" finish no.1 in the box office
But, "Evan Almighty" which is about a new congressman[played by Carell] instructed by God (played by Morgan Freeman) to build an ark for a coming flood. Was not as powerful as Bruce
just take a look to see what i mean:
Bruce Almighty[2003]: $68 Million
Evan Almighty[This Weekend]: $32.1 million
So do this mean that Jim Carrey is the most powerful Comic God on Earth.
Finish no.2 was the New Stephen King masterpiece "1408" with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, the psychological hotel thriller check in $20.175 million edging out "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" [which fall to third place] by just a tad.
but, the big time dud of the weekend was "A Mighty Heart", the Film which star Angelina Jolie as the wife of kidnapped and slain journalist Daniel Pearl, despite all the good reviews all over.
The Film Manage only $4 millions and a disappointing 10th place, Ouch
And one of the Three big films in May have drop out of the top ten, spider-man 3 which was the first of the big may released and whom set the record for biggest opening weekend ever Drop out the box office Chart but bot only leaving it mark with a total gross of over $332,548,000.
and for those of you still care "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," finish 6th with $7.2 million, [Total US Gross:$287,015,000]and "Shrek the Third," wind up in 8th with $5.8 million.[Total US Gross:$307,908,000]
as for the rest of the top ten
It goes something like this:
1. "Evan Almighty," $32.1 million.
2. "1408," $20.175 million.
3. "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer," $20.15 million.
4. "Ocean's Thirteen," $11.3 million.
5. "Knocked Up," $10.6 million.
6. "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," $7.2 million.
7. "Surf's Up," $6.7 million.
8. "Shrek the Third," $5.8 million.
9. "Nancy Drew," $4.5 million.
10. "A Mighty Heart," $4 million.
and one more thing before i go this monday at the Detroit Film Theater at the D.I.A. there is a free film beging at 8 P.M. and it begin persent by Consul General of Canada as part of the 2007 Cinema Canada program, and it a hockey flick that sweep the 2006 Genie Awards [Canada anwser to the Oscar]
"The Rocket"
[2005/Canada) directed by Charles Biname
For francophone Quebecers, Maurice “Rocket” Richard holds a singular place in Canadian history. He overcame the National Hockey League’s disdain for working-class Québécois players to become a hockey phenomenon, and made the Montreal Canadiens virtually unbeatable in the 1950s. Richard came to symbolize something more than just hockey excellence when, after decking a referee, he was banned from playing in the 1955 Stanley Cup playoffs. The verdict was seen by Québécois as a slap in the face from English Canada, and led to a night of rioting that proved a turning point in Quebec’s Quiet Revolution
and dont forget the good thing about it, Addmisstion is Free to this Film so that mean there is no cover, but remember the film start at 8 P.M.
