Sad News in the City

Well, this weekend was a good one in Culture City
but there was really, really sad news on Friday Night

it happen at the Rockin' the Riverfront free concert series at the Renaissance Center in Downtown Detroit, the band the was headlining was classic rock band "Blue Oyster Cult" and the opening band was local blues band "Spitting Nickels" and you know not a big blues or classic rock fan so i did not go.

but according to all reports on the blogs and some media reports that i read, the guitarist for "Spitting Nickels" Tom Furtaw collapsed on stage during there set, the other members of the band called for Medical attention.

the EMT and the Police Officer was on rush to the stage and and give him C.P.R. on the spot, they work on him for 15 minutes until the ambulance arrived they was still working on him as they rush to the nearest hospital, later that night i was learn that he pass away.

Nobody know what cause his sudden death but they are thinking that he may have a heart attack, but nobody don't know how he die pending results of a autopsy

Just like every other musician in the Detroit Metro area, he did have a day job he was a senior adviser to Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox, he was a son of Grosse Pointe Park cop, he was a assistant prosecutors for Wayne County until he was appointed as a top aides the Michigan AG in 2002.

he was married with three young children,
Tom Furtaw was only 43 years old.

My prayer are with the family and his friends and his bands mates in "Spitting Nickels" in this very sad time.

Visitation for Tom Furtaw will be held at

Verheyden Funeral Home
16300 Mack
Grosse Pointe Park, MI

From 4:00-9:00 p.m on Monday
and From 1:00-9:00 p.m on Tuesday

The Funeral will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at

St. Clare of Montefalco Church
Mack at Whittier
Grosse Pointe Park, MI

Map here

Memorial contributions may be made to the College Education Fund for Mr. Furtaw's children and may be sent to the family in c/o of Chas. Verheyden Funeral Home, P.O. Box 36248 Grosse Pointe, MI. 48236.

Suzi Quatro's Heroes
Mondays - 6:30 PM

Listen again to John Sebastian

Suzi Quatro presents a series profiling six of her musical heroes.

Programme 4 - Wanda Jackson
Wanda Jackson is the Queen of Rockabilly, who has inspired artists such as Brenda Lee to 'sing tough'.

A singer since childhood, at 17 Wanda sang with Hank Thompson, before breaking away from the conservative country music scene of the fifties.

She toured with Elvis and had a string of hits including Fujiyama Mama - a huge hit in Japan - There's A Party Goin' On, and Funnel Of Love.

She returned to country music in the sixties and scored a massive hit with her ballad, Right Or Wrong.

Now in her seventies, Wanda is still rocking, and joins Suzi to discuss her career.
