* Before the Holiday we learn of the sad, sad story of Lily Allen, yes the same Lily Allen who have one of the best album last year (the same album that will be released on Jan 23), well her dog name Maggie may was Dognapp which have here worried to no end as she put it on her my space page.

"I am beside myself with worry because someone has stolen my dog Maggie May this morning.
I am in Jamaica, while i am here Maggie has been looked after by a friend she was stolen out of his van. outside his house, Capel road, Forest gate, London. E7
and no one has seen her since.
Not only am i devastated that my dog has been taken away, but i am also concerned for her wellbeing."

Well that was December 28, 2006, well i am proud to say that Lily have her dog back she told everybody on her
my space Blog that the some body call her and told that she have her dog so her friend sheck out to see if they have Maggie and it was but she have to Fork over the reward Money (Which was a $1,000 UK) and hand it over and worst yet they also try sell her more dogs which have upset her to no end.

Other than Fleas and begin thin she OK, and Lily is happy and now she can prepair for the US released of "Alright Still" and the US tour to Follow.

Happy New Year Detorit
it Jan.2, 2007

and i am back after a week and a half away (expect for the Festive 50, which i hoped you got to chane to read the full 50 and the Local 25) , X-mas was as always uneventful expect for the WPIX yule log on TV (yes it almost two hours a close up shot of fireplace buring a log with X-mas music to fill up the two hours but it was on Late night i.e. 3:30 AM X-mas Morning) so there was nothing going on expect to get ready to go to the New year eve show at the stick, which i was there i got there very early hoping it would not full up, a half hour before the new year it was half full for a new year eve, the Opening bands was good inculing the band from Pittsbugh, PA called meldoy Lemon who play some of the best rock since Rusted Root.

The Dirtbombs took the stage at about 11:35 PM as they play there songs, it is kid of trick to play before midnight because if you keep on going you may miss the midnight countdown to the new year, Lucky the crowd in the front the stage told them it was a 11:58 PM, so they stop playing at 11:58 PM for the all important midnight countdown and it was 2007, after that they came back to played a full set with encore, there second encore it was all Ben Backwell her was singing like a maniact with Troy (who saw him bowl a few games before the gig) on Bass and KO on Fuzzy Gitar and Patrick banging on the drum.

and there a few times he was swinging and hang in on to the pipe in the front stage, hey it the second time i saw some one hanging on to a pipe at a gig (i saw Eddie if the Sights swing the pipe at the Sights show, and what somebody told me auige of the hard lession.also swing on the pipe as well.)well the show was over and at 2:00 AM every body left like on a reguarly night like the 362 days of the year.

Next to see some Drinken kids getting kick out for haveing one too many and Fighting surcury i did get home safely and check with my other place to see how new year was But all around all was quiet all around from most the people i talk to told me they stay home and watch the ball drop on either Fox new year show, Carson Daly, or the Grand Daddy of them all Dick Clark on ABC( Well the Stick have NBC on all the TV upstiar because there was NFL game sunday)

or just like some people they sleep in the new year.

any way he some of the news tips that is going on in Detroit rock city, it you what to send me a news tips of anythings going on in the Detroit rock Scene or if you want to send in reviews of what happend at other new year Eve event all over Detroit, you can E-Mail the sight at
Culturecitynewstips@yahoo.com.

There is not much expect line-up changes, a SushiBar/a album begin push back/a Sushi bar/techno club closing for good.

Just before the Christmas Show at the stick i saw Cyril Lords at the Belmont where they have been using guest Bass players sin Sean Elwood left the group well during the gig Marty told me to put this sight, so i will they have found a new bass Player and he did not look far, The new member is John Szymanski for his other bands SSM to fill in bass duty the Cyril Lords will play aging with Szymanski after his other band SSm com back from month tour of Europe which include stop in London,Nottingham,St. Etienne, and Paris.

spaking of Sean Ellwood who just Join Outraggues Cherry, I was told by Front Cherry Matt Smith that they go a new drummer, now he did not give her full name but he told she is From boston and her name is Samattah and her told she play in a band called Bam now i try my best in find and info on the band that she in but i could not find on google.

speaking of which it look like the Von Bondies will have wait untill may untill theer new album Love, hate, and there you will be out, my good mole told me that the album will now be reelased in May of 2007.

and here a follow up report to the closing of Oslo which took place back before the holiday, the popural Sushi bar/Techno Night club close it door the weekend of Dec.15 after some were saying the typical Owner/Landlord dispure.

Co-Owner of the Club Brook Campbell told the Metro Times Last week that he was having disputes with landlords of the club also he clam there was bias against himself as a gay man, and there was threats against his life.

But Accoring to The MT the club have not paid the Summer tax bill to the City of Detroit which was due on Aug. 15 and also According some Fromer workers that they were not getting paid and the sushi chefs quit in protest, That force to close the Upstair restaurant closed. but the show when on untill the weeend of Dec 15.

That force many gig at the club to relocate at the Works on Michigan Ave. or cancelled all together, you can read the full story on the Closeing of Oslo at the metrotimes web sight under the headline
Oslo no more .

The Culture City
Festive 50 - 2006

Local 25 Edition

Now it time for a little some thing extra

It a special list beyond the festive 50 it some thing i like to called it a smaller version of the main Festive 50 List but this time all center in the Motor City of Detroit which gave the World Cars, Motown, Suzi Quatro, Iggy, Techno and House Music, Eminem, The White Stripes and in the last few years giving out Great Detroit Music to listen to.

You are asking yourself why 25 bands instead of the Full 50, well like some one tell me a few night ago there is not even 50 bands in the City that released good rock music, so in the last months of compiling local bands the released music this year, it was really tough whether or not to rank the 25 local bands that matter because i know almost ever local in town, so it was tough because i did not want to upset so many that i know.

So i want to get this out way, this is a List and only a list if you made the list that is OK,even if you rank to high or to low, If you don't make the list it not the end of the world, it just that a list
(There was one in the This Sunday Free Press, Bout it was only 10)

and not only that i started this blog sight in May and there was all kind of Chaos in putting together something every day, so it was thought in putting sight together, So this is the first one so there room for improvements.

Now the Rules for Local 25

There is the Same Rules as in the Festival 50 but with a few minor tweaks

1. It Must be a 2006 released
that mean it got to be released between
Jan 1, 2006 to Dec. 31 2006.

2. is the only minor tweaks in the Local 25
it must a full LP (7 songs or more)
or a EP (between 4 to 6 songs)
7 Inches singles are not eligible

3. This in not limentd to the Detroit Tri-county are(Wayne, Oakland, and Macome) it could come from anywhere Ann Arbor, Lansing, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapies, That mean any where in Michigan.

And unlike the Festive 50 most bands Don't released video so i will Try to Find the Video on you tube if is abliveed

So Here we go the Festive 50 Local 25
Beginning with No.25

25.
A Thousand Times Yes

and Very sadly this will be there only time of the local 25 they Broke up after releasing there second and Final album "Heart Beats" back the beginning of the year they did some touring local but they Broke up on April, There were a really good bands and they will be miss

Album released This year: Heart Beats

24.
The Fondas
The Old school Revivalist fronted by the very Pretty Julie Benjamin released the Follow up to Coming Now which "Runaway Bombshell" which was good album this year and they do put out great Live shows, and they ar a real cool band.

Album released This year: Runaway Bombshell

(Ed Note Dont the Sunday Date fool you, it was type on Saturday so i could put on the top of the page all weekend Long.)

The Culture City
Festive 50 - 2006

(The Last of Five Part)

This is it

i have reach the end of the line, the last 10 bands in the first ever, and hopefully not the last ever Culture City Festive 50 Countdown of the Fifty bands you have not heard because you are spending way to much time listen to K-Fed or Justin timberlake album.

These are the Fitty bands that shoude matter to you now and in the futher but it you miss any one of the 40 other bands in this Countdown you can check out the right of this menu and check out each of the four other parts of this count down. and just before i reveal the top three i do the Full rundown and aging after the countdown.

But before i run Down the Final ten i have two Honor to mention on the end of the Countdown, one at the beginning and one at the end, the fun part with these best of list is too see the bands that don't get love get there due Mission of Burma, The Thermals, Wolfmother, SEAN LENNON, THOM YORKE, and Final Fantasy(yes kids there is a band called Final Fantasy) got called out for the people who really follow music now if they just when back to the old days of getting there music played.

you see back in the old days they would play a gig on TV where they play a song from there million selling album and there clueless host ask dume questions to know where did they get the band name,(Hey we all ask that question) and there will be some show where they be part of a countdown show where there song get played.

There was not a show here in the U.S (the closest we got to a countdown show was America Top 10 (on TV) and 40 (on Radio) with Casee Kassie), but there was a show that have the record for longest Variety show on TV, it was on BBC-TV for 42 years for a show that was going to aired for Six Weeks, It began on New years day on January of 1964 as Radio DJ Sir Jimmy Savile told viewer it 6:30 it something that have never been done before and it was called Tops of the Pops from a former church that have been converted in to a TV Studio in Manchester, England.

The First band to appeared on the show was The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, the Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Swinging Blue Jeans with and that week No.1 The Beatles with "I Want to Hold Your Hand" For 2,204 shows it took UK music fans a half Hours journey that took them thought Five Decade of music and style presented by the DJ at BBC radio one Alan Freeman, Pete Murray and David Jacobs,John Peel, David Jensen, Tony Blackburn, Richard Skinner, Dave Lee Travis, Janice Long, Gail Porter, Jamie Theakston, Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates(i know you are ask other then John Peel i don't know the other DJ).

they hit there peak in 1975 where the show reach almost 15 million viewers a week and it survived the changed in music, as well as time changes From Thursday to Friday and then until the end on Sunday, a lot of reworking of the show if the changing of the logos was any indication. But they can not survived the Internet (i.e. we don't know how to program a music show.)

The writing was on the wall and the show ended on July 30 as Sir Jimmy Savile who started the show ended with the line he Coin "It's still number one, it still top of the Pops" as Sir Jimmy closed the light on a TV show forever(Unless they pull a Doctor who out of the hat)

So we Honor the TV show with a clips from long running TV Show.

One of the Last Bands on tops of the Pop

When i mention to Suzy Cole about my easy winner in one NME single of the week which is called Tilly and the Wall, she said i like the bands because there chicks in the band, yes there Chicks in the band who have a fun always spirited live show with a tap dancer instead of a drummer really fun live show that make you want to book the band during homecoming week(Ed Note: they played the stick on Home Coming week at Wayne state) there CD "Bottoms of Barrels" released in may is really fun to listen to by the Campfire.

KT Tunstall
This year Grabeg lead by Scotist-woman Sheryl Manson when on Hiatus, well at least we found a subatuie in a pretty good live Songwriter, nobody at the begin of 2006 know who KT Tunstall was unless if you was a real music who follow the UK music Scene you still have no idea who KT Turnstall was unless you first hear her debut album on UK radio and that it was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005, but then one listen to her wonderful debut album "Eye to the Telescope" you would be asking what a wonderful album, i got to hear her live and she would win you over with a hrad driving - blue collar live show that would ask you when she be back in town.

KT Turnstall did it all that this year and have replace Sheryl Crow as there fave singer-songwriter would could put on a great live show by herself, with someone, or a full band she was great, I don't know how in the hell she was denied for best new artist Grammy.

but unlike other trouble rockers before her she came back stronger than ever more wise and she know how to do a straight up live gig, this year she prove she is the greatest and not only that proved my highlight of 2006 after her gig at Tasetfest i lend he my Sharpie and she wrote almost a dozen autograph and not only that after she hand me back my sharpie, She compel surprise me by kissing me on the Check, Now that was some thing

Album released this year: The Greatest

she would be the No.1 of the year, but if it was not for a late night ride back home with Metro Times Techno writer Walter Wasaca i would not be talking about the crazy mix mash Indie Electronic Synth-pop band from Sweden, The Land of hockey and they give us Current red wings Captain Nicklas Lidström, this album that was released in Late July on Mute records and won over every one even if you was not a fan of Electronic Music.

The Top Band That Should Matter to you in 2006 is

But it hard to come by the band because avoid the public spotlight by not taking photograph or doing live gig until late of the year when they played two show in NYC and Two Show in San Francisco, they put a bench mark on the music in 2006 until they put a pain in place for there Next album.
