The Shins might've pushed their album back until January, but they recently revealed some details to Billboard.com. In a move uncomfortably reminiscent of Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping", the Shins have titled their upcoming Sub Pop release Wincing the Night Away. Yeah...probably from getting knocked down over and over again.

Save some backing vocals, Wincing is completely finished and ready for mixing in Portland, Billboard reports. The album will likely feature ten full songs and an intro track, including "Phantom Limb" ("a hypothetical, fictional account of a young, lesbian couple in high school dealing with the shitty small town they live in," frontman James Mercer told Billboard), "Red Rabbits" ("a strange psychedelic piano number with this really tweaked out sound"), "Sea Legs", "Spelling Lessons", "Spilled Needles", and "A Comet Appears".

Wincing the Night Away is the Shins' final album under contract to Sub Pop, and the band is well aware. "We really like the more creative sort of ways people have been putting out their records lately," Mercer said. "People are owning their own masters and having distribution deals. That's real attractive. It's an expensive business. It's probably more expensive for the artists than anyone else." Uh oh-- trouble in paradise?

The Shins have a few dates lined up for next month, though they plan to hold off on any sort of mega-tour until the album's release in 2007.

Paramount Dump Tom Cruise

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Paramount Pictures and actor Tom Cruise called an end to their 14-year production deal on Wednesday as the chairman of the studio's parent company took a parting shot at the movie star's off-screen behavior.

"As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal," Viacom Inc. Chairman Sumner Redstone told the Wall Street Journal in an interview posted online. "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Paula Wagner, the actor's longtime partner in his movie company, Cruise/Wagner Productions, struck back at Redstone, calling his comments about the three-time Oscar nominee "offensive" and "undignified."

"Whatever remarks Mr. Redstone would make about Tom Cruise personally or as an actor have no bearing on what this business issue is," she told Reuters. "There must be another agenda that the studio has in mind to take one of their greatest assets and malign him this way."

Five films starring Cruise and co-produced by his company, including the "Mission: Impossible" series, have generated theatrical revenues totaling over $2 billion worldwide during the past decade. And Wagner said his films accounted for about 15 percent of the studio's overall box office gross over that period.

Moreover, Wagner insisted that she and Cruise chose to leave the Paramount lot and establish a new venture financed through a private, revolving equity fund of $100 million.

"We in fact made a decision not to continue our relationship with Paramount Pictures," she said.

Viacom and Paramount executives declined further comment on the situation.

The war of words between Redstone and Wagner marked a bitter end to one of the most lucrative production alliances between a major Hollywood studio and an A-list star.

STAR POWER DIMMED

And it followed other signs that Cruise's stature had been damaged by a string of publicity faux pas ranging from his manic, couch-hopping profession of love for actress Katie Holmes last year on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" to his strident denunciations of psychiatry.

Although Cruise recently topped Forbes magazine's annual list of the world's 100 most powerful celebrities, his latest film, "Mission: Impossible III," opened in May to lower-than-expected ticket sales.

Days later a USA Today/Gallup poll found that Cruise's star power had dimmed considerably in the eyes of the public, with more than half of those surveyed registering an "unfavorable" opinion of the actor.

Many cited his off-screen behavior during the past year, including his intense public discussions of his faith in Scientology and his blunt criticism of actress Brooke Shields for taking medication to treat postpartum depression.

Cruise also became the butt of jokes, and a frequent target of tabloid gossip, for his high-profile romance with the much younger Holmes, who recently gave birth to Cruise's first biological child, a daughter named Suri.

Last month, the Los Angeles Times reported that Paramount Chairman Brad Grey was in talks with Cruise/Wagner seeking to slash the amount of money the studio pays for the production company -- from over $10 million to $2 million a year.

Wagner disputed those figures, and said the collapse in talks with Paramount did not stem from a disagreement over money but from an opportunity to go "in a new direction."

The departure of Cruise/Wagner from Paramount comes as all the studios are taking new measures to curb expenses in the face of escalating production and marketing costs and slumping growth in DVD revenues.

Cruise's latest film, "Mission: Impossible III," went on to amass $393 million in ticket sales around the world, a tidy sum but far less than his 2005 release from Paramount, "War of the Worlds," which topped $590 million globally.

17 days Untill
Dally in the Alley

well it been a quite day in the newsroom with a bunch a local news stuff which i will get to but if you have been noticed this blog sight it a little bit diffence, It still the same blog site at itcamefromculture.blogspot.com, it look the same but there is a slight diffence, because late sunday night it switch over to a new updated version of blogger.com which i quite like because you have to create HTML and CCS but since i dont know how to do that it was tought to do a a group of links on the side,so with the new interface will be more easy.

And a new feather that will be helpful for the daliy and weekly post you can now lable post on the blogger sight which will be good for this sight like The Main Story post and the regualr post like Gig Gudie monday, New Music Tuesday, and Film Gudie Friday, also there will be tags for Breaking Culture News and the speacl live and local post of the big event like this week prime time Emmys awards and if i ever write one the live review so this week end i may or may not update all the post since i started this blog on May 8th.

So this sight will get slightly better over time.

Now that i explaned the slightly differcen like (Which is not much)

Like i say there is no local news but there is this story that was is today Detroit Free Press because there was problums at the second show for Dave Chappelle's at the FOX, yes it was the second show at the fox, the first show (The 7:30PM Show, which was sold out a few weeks ago) went well, but the second show was a little tought accroding to today Free Press that fans at the 10:30 PM Show turn it into a heckler fest.

a E-mail told the Free Press "The loud drunks shouting things and the people in the front row standing up and talking to him. He only got through maybe 40% of his material. I felt bad for him. I don't know how the early show went but if I were him I would think twice about coming back.", that smae E-mailer say that "The 10:30 show was the worst I have ever seen,"

The Free Press was specaltion that the 10:30 Crowd was pleantly lubricated before the show and also the 10:30 Crowd was having trouble finding parking because the crowd for the first show and the tigers game was getting out and headed home that delay cause Chappelle second show to go on at midnight, Ouch

well my advice to anyone hosting a musicical act or a comic at the State Theater, Fox Theater, City Theater(Old Second City Downtown location), Dertoit Oprea House, or the Gem Theater when trying to book two show on the same night check the lions and tiger schucel so you wont have traffic problme with fans who going to the show or gig and fans coming or going to the game.

And i forgot about two gig i forgot in yesterday post

one if you save $52.50 it will by you a ticket to the 40th anniversary of the Grande Ballroom at the Royal Oak Music Theatre in Downtown Royal Oak, The Card for that show which will begin at 6 PM will have 3rd Power (with Drew Abbott, who went on to play with Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band) will "kick out the jams" a la another Grande attraction, the MC5. Then comes the Crazy World of Arthur Brown followed by Big Brother and the Holding Company ( Joplin's band) with Canned Heat rounding out the musical tribute.

Dave Miller (Grande's original emcee) returns to Detroit to host the scheduled seven-hour event. Original Grande artists Gary Grenshaw and Carl Lungren will also appear, and there'll be a tribute to Russ Gibb --the "Paul McCartney is dead" guy and counterculture legend -- who ran the Grande.

Ticket is on sale Thur the box office, at www.tickets.com, 1-800-919-6272 and Tickets.com outlets, including Record Time in Ferndale and Roseville
For More info: Info at 248-399-2980 and
http://www.royaloakmusictheatre.com/.

As for the location of the buliding on 8960 Grand River on Detroit West side well in May Chapel Hill Ministries brought the Buliding back in may and may will likely be torn down.

accroding to the story in the free press
last weekThere are huge holes in the roof. The elements have rotted its ballroom floors. Brick walls have collapsed or had sledgehammers taken to them.

if you want to read the post about the Grande you can link to it from Detroit yes at:
http://detroityes.com/
If you want to see what to see the inside of the grandy look like now:
http://detroityes.com/webisodes/2003/03daily/11-GrandeBallroom.htm

and i did not for get the Detroit News Sonic Summer: A Battle of the Bands the thrid and final semi-final gig this thrusday at Clutch Cargo's in Pontiac, Who will go on to the Finals gig on September the 1st will it be Alternative funk-rockers from Detroit Bright Black, or will it be Ann Arbor Indie rocker Jae Stevens Live, or will it be Modern rock from Southgate Pillar Of Autumn.

They will played at 10 PM at the The Detroit News Sonic Street/Comcast Stage at Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats in Pontiac September 1st, they will join by Semi-final gig winner no.1 Free Element(8 PM)and Semi-final winner no.2 The Prime Ministers(9 PM)with the winners of the big gig will be revield after all three played, before that there will be wram-up gig from 2006 Battle of the Bands Champions The Red Rocks(6 PM) and Last Year Sonic Summer Champions The Killer Flamingos(7 PM)

Ha ha Weezer Graest Hitats ever

just week after Frontman River Cuomo said he was puting his long time band on hitats, It look like us music fans got punks aging on there web sight (weezer.com) with this post from the stange frontamn, "this PSA has been brought to you by the fine guacamole dip at Scott Shriner's house, co-sponsored by a ring of fine cheese, and a dish of fresh figs from the back yard. Now please, take those "weezer split?" headlines and place them firmly into the "Don't believe the hype" bin. And have yourself a fine afternoon now."

OK, but why put the rumuos out there in the first place, the staement say also did not revieled there futher plans.

Gee Betty, The rehab is full of rockers

last night i told you that three gig in euroupe was cancelled because Lead man Tom Chaplin, was suffering from exhaustion.

24 Hours later Keane have revealed his in rehab for drug and alcohol problems, the band have posted a statement saying this:

"I've been having to deal with an increasing problem with drink and drugs, and the time has come to get the professional help I need to sort myself out," he also added "I feel desperately disappointed to be letting down our fans, but I want to get myself right now so that I can be back on the road for the rest of the year."

so this mean the the september 9th show with razorlight at the State Theatre have been postponed, all ticket will be refund at the point of purscud.

he Join of all people Darkness Frontman Justin Hawkins admitted to a rehabilitation clinic and has been forced to "cancel all professional commitments or work-related activities," according to a post on the band's site. Now what is he in for the band is not saying as the post list, "We are not here to comment on Justin’s private life -- or anyone else’s for that matter," the post continued. "He is feeling better already, and as soon as he is ready we will be going straight into the studio to begin recording album number 3."

Let hoped he well becaues nobody remember how bad was the second Album then Kevin Felderline rapping.

It Came From The Late Night Music Club From Culture City with The Rapture

If any one who read my bit review of the First single of The Rapture - Get Myself Into It in last week My NME Single of the week, i was not big about the single when i 1st hear it on myspace last week.

but after seeing this video on pitchforkmedia.com and stereogum.com link on youtube.com, i should have like the song but i count song i first listen to via myspace.com and that is.

but the video is classic old school disco with a lot of roller disco with the band playing and it total cool.

It off the new album " Pieces of the people we love" out on September 12th in the US

Enjoy the video.

was a little slow on Saturday which i did nothing alright i did go to the Masonic Temple in between Downtown and midtown to see for the first time after seeing there booth at ever pop culture event like dally 2005 and this year tastefest i saw a roller derby match which was held in the tired floor of the great temple the match was the Devil’s Night Dames VS. The Detroit Pistoffs it was a very good match with the Pistoffs domantin the match all night long i for got the final score but it wasa a 30 point marging as Cookie Rumble and Bikini Killer with the hi-scored of the match Skittle will go on to the to the Championship Play-Off Bout on October 21st agiast Honey Suckit and Killbox and the Pistol Whippers in the same room but there will be a third place game Between Devil’s Night Dames and the D-Funk All-Star on Septemder 16th at the Drill Hall at the Masonic Temple just a few block North of Downtown, and one more things where did the ref get the name like Ref Boy aree-dee to prove we dont make this up you can go the Derby girls web sight at

And after the bouth everynoe hang out at the northen Light Lounge in the New Center area where there was checking out photo of the match and haveing a few drinks (Me - I am a non drinker) and on sunday did not do a thing expct to put up the gig guide and other thing because i am only a few weeks away from the real football Fanstey and the real things the seven draft are between this week and next week (between Aug.24 and Aug 31, a week before the Collage(1) and the Pro season(6) all of them live Draft so this will be good.

the big non-gig news that was first posted on the detroit paper web sight on thursday afternoon and by the end of friday hit all the music mag Web sight and may be both detrot weekly by midweek.

the Listing go some thing like this, it have a secret garden, a master bedroom hand-painted by the owner, the grand staircase/foyer, and a red-and-white-striped laundry room and bathroom.

The asking price for this home a mere $930,000

well it the Former home of Ex-Detroit Jack White who is now living in Nashville accoring to the Detroit News Broght the deed for a Dollar and put a lot of work into the house, the listing agent told the paper White put more than $200,000 worth of work into the house, it is also the house that the band last album "Get Behind Me Satan" was recorded in 1995, but this house have some histroy behind it It was built in 1914 and designed by C. Howard Krane, who also designed Detroit's Fox Theatre and Orchestra Hall.

Now if you want to see the house that is located at 1731 Seminole St. in detroit Indian Village on Detroit East Side near the detroit river, Slacker need not apped all potential buyers must be pre-approved prior to showings and it must be made by It will be shown by appointment only.

but for us slackers who dont have the $930,000. you can see the house in all it glory at this web sight :
www.1731seminole.com/.

And speaking of which Jack White rival band "The Von Bondies Want to make on thing prefitly Clear the band is not breaking up, Let me repeat that there not breaking up, in a blog post on there my space page (
www.myspace.com/vonbondies) that some Emeny of the band have posted a post on the wikipedia section of the Von Bondies that the Band have broken up well from the post It was brought to our attention by one of you, our fellow MYSPACER's that it stated that the von bondies had broken up in July 2006, ha,ha,ha.

You know that is not ture they are still working on the CD as we speak and for the same post accroing from Jason Stollsteimer there oh so close to finishing the record. We are a song or two away from lift off. And we promise to have lots of B-side/extra goodies for all of you who have waited so patiently.

also in the same post it was listed that they have a andored song title for the New CD it was lead to beleved it was going to be "Love, Hate, and then there's you" but there thinking of calling the album "Modern Saints", Now the Majorjorey of the people on that post what the album to be "Love, Hate, and then there's You" (29 to 9)a little poll on the same also love hate then you by a 5 to 1 margin (60 to 10).

As for the album it will be out in eather March or April of 2007. And i did some double checking on the band wikipedia section of the site (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Von_Bondies) and that whold break up rumor is not on there.

And before i get to all the new gig in the 313 before i hit the Indie news outside the 313 because i forgot to mention a coulpe of weeks backs a very congaulation to Ex-Outraguas Cherry bass player Courtney Sheedy who just about a month ago marred a very nice guy name Matthew (Sorry i dont have your last name) who played with her in a side project of her main band PA(
publikaddress.com or www.myspace.com/publicaddress) Called BlackTiger(www.myspace.com/blacktigermusic, who playing the SUMMERSMASH at the lager house on Friday Night) They was married about a month ago in a very, very low ikey under the radar wedding that was attend by only 15 people, and know her in here days as the bass player who remind me of my ex-crush Carrie Smith of the Von Bondies, and i whis her and matt all the luck in the world in there new life together and a happy life for a long, long time all the best from the editor of this blog sight.

well it the begining of a new week and guess what if you have not been to the placed where gig happend websight or can wait to get the news Metro times and real detroit Weekly here are the brand new gig just annouced:

Shockingly, nobody covers "Crazy" on this compilation.

--------------------------------------

Nimble, often instrumental, and powerful as hell, Electrelane isn't the easiest beast to brand, but we love them all the same. (And not just because guitarist Mia Clarke is a Pitchfork contributor.) They love us too, and to show it, the four-piece has assembled a rarities compilation to whet fans' appetites until the next Electrelane album arrives.

Entitled Singles, B-Sides & Live, this monster drops on August 22 in the U.S. (and the day before in the UK) through Too Pure.

The collection features 16 tracks, including A- and B-sides released on Indenial/Skint, Fierce Panda, the group's own Let's Rock! label, and Too Pure. It includes a kickass cover of Springsteen's "I'm on Fire"), a John Peel session selection ("Oh Sombra!"), and three live tracks (including the band's stab at Leonard Cohen's "Halleluj-- psyche!-- "The Partisan").

Electrelane's four steadfast pistons-- Clarke, Emma Gaze, Ros Murray, and Verity Susman-- are currently in Berlin recording their fourth album after spending some time pursuing personal interests and solo/side projects (Verity as Vera November, contributing a track to the forthcoming Jens Lekman-curated Arthur Russell tribute; Ros in Ray Rumours, Sisisi Sisisi Sisi, Las Pulpas, and probably a few more obscure Iberian lo-fi bands, and Clarke writing for The Wire, Venus, and you-know-who).

No release date has being bandied about for the new album yet, so it would be safe to assume "beginning of 2007" at the earliest.

Singles, B-Sides & Live:

01 Film Music
02 Come On
03 Le Song
04 U.O.R.
05 John Wayne
06 I Love You My Farfisa

14 Birds (live)
15 Those Pockets Are People/The Partisan (live)

A grizzly bear, Boog (voice of Martin Lawrence), makes friends with a mule-deer, Elliot (Ashton Kutcher), in the forthcoming animated film Open Season, set to hit theaters September 29. But that's not the only friendship between wild animals involved with the film, as former Replacements bandmates Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson have also rekindled their bond for its music. Following March's Replacements best-of reunion, Westerberg and Stinson have joined together for two songs on the Open Season soundtrack, due September 26 via Lost Highway.

The disc includes ten Westerberg originals (he and Ramin Djawadi scored the film), two of which ("Love You in the Fall" and "Right to Arm Bears") feature Stinson on bass. Pete Yorn and Deathray each perform a Westerberg track as well, titled "I Belong (Reprise)" and "Wild As I Wanna Be", respectively.

The soundtrack is also home to Deathray's "I Wanna Lose Control (Uh Oh)" and the Takling Heads' "Wild Wild Life".

Tracklist:

01 Paul Westerberg - "Meet Me in the Meadow"
02 Paul Westerberg - "Love You in the Fall"
03 Paul Westerberg - "I Belong"
04 Deathray - "I Wanna Lose Control (Uh Oh)"
05 Paul Westerberg - "Better Than This"
06 Talking Heads - "Wild Wild Life"
07 Paul Westerberg - "Right to Arm Bears"

No one-hit lovefools, enduring Swedish pop rockers the Cardigans are poised to finally release their sixth long-player in the U.S. Nettwerk will issue the 11-track affair, titled Super Extra Gravity, on September 19-- although the most devout Cards fans have been rocking the European import for nearly a year now.

Pitchfork caught up with charming chief Cardigan Nina Persson to discuss the release's delay, her film debut, a cancelled U.S. tour, Japanese audiences, and yes, "Lovefool".

Not too excitingly, the prolonged U.S. release boils down to label politics. Quite simply, said Persson, "we're signed to Universal Records worldwide and they passed on this record as well, like they did with the previous one [2003's Long Gone Before Daylight, which didn't see U.S. release until the following year, via Koch]." Luckily Nettwerk came around this time to deliver Super Extra Gravity stateside, featuring the following bonus-free tracklist:

01 Losing a Friend
02 Godspell
03 Drip Drop Teardrop
04 Overload
05 I Need Some Fine Wine and You, You Need to Be Nicer
06 Don't Blame Your Daughter [Diamonds]
07 Little Black Cloud
08 In the Round
09 Holy Love
10 Good Morning Joan
11 And Then You Kissed Me II

Then there's the fall U.S. tour, announced a few weeks back and then swiftly cancelled, for "family reasons," says Nina. "Three guys in the band have small children, so I think we just realized it wouldn't [be the best thing] for those families. It's just unfortunate that they had already announced it-- we hadn't completely made up our minds [yet]."

Persson assured that the band would try to make it back to the U.S. sometime next year.

While she won't be gracing U.S. stages, Persson has been gracing the silver screen, starring in God Willing, a film by first-time directing duo Amir Chamdin and Erik Eger. "It's a small, pretty love story," Persson said of the black-and-white work, in which she plays a Finnish tango dancer in 1975 Stockholm. Persson lends her voice to the flick's soundtrack as well, which includes a rendition of the White Stripes' "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground".

So okay, "Lovefool". "We really hated it for years, and we felt like we were playing a cover when we were doing it. But now I think we're sort of past that so we can [perform] it, and appreciate that it's a good song again, and do it without feeling like we're doing it with irony. It's funny because it's been a curse in many ways, but I think we're over it, we've forgiven it."

The Cardigans have spent the better part of the summer playing "Lovefool" and newer hits at festivals across the globe, and just wrapped up a stint in Japan-- where they didn't get quite the reception they were used to: "The Japanese audience...[is] so respectful that they're completely quiet in between the songs. Wherever else you play you're expecting applause or people yelling, but they're just dead quiet, so you start thinking about what you did wrong. We played Tokyo and Osaka and the Tokyo crowd was definitely a little bit wilder than the Osaka one, but that does not mean wild at all."

Next up: the mighty V Festivals, followed by fest dates in Denmark, Brazil, and Belarus, where Lord knows how they respond to live music.

We bet he looks good on the dancefloor, but does Stephen Malkmus sound good on the dancefloor? We'll find out August 28, when Domino UK releases the Kindling for the Master remix EP, featuring four club-ready takes on the title track. "Kindling", from last year's Face the Truth, gets tweaked by Hot Chip, Canadian experimentalist Polmo Polpo, Emperor Machine (aka Andy Meecham of Chicken Lips), and Norwegian space disco king Prins Thomas under his Major Swellings alias.

Tracklist:

A1 Kindling for the Master (Emperor Machine Remix - Vocal)
B1 Kindling for the Master (Major Swellings Remix - Vocal)
C1 Kindling for the Master (Hot Chip Remix)
D1 Kindling for the Master (Polmo Polpo Remix)

Not much Malkmus news to report at the moment, other than that he's got one show coming up (September 8 at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon) and that the Wowee Zowee reissue is coming out in November.

Todd Snider Visits SIRIUS Disorder
Thurs 8/24 5:00 pm ET
One of Todd Snider's earliest songs was "Talkin' Seattle Grunge Rock Blues;" his last album featured the classic "Conservative Christian, Right-Wing Republican, Straight White American Male." The guy knows satire, and we Disorderlies love a good satire. Which is good, because his new album, The Devil You Know, has quite a few of them, including the "You Got Away With It (A Tale Of Two Fraternity Brothers)." Kris Kristofferson, John Prine and Billy Joe Shaver are all fans, as is Meg Griffin, who hangs out with Todd for an interview

He is well know to the massed as Krik on Star trek in the 60's and TJ Hooker in the 80's and his current role as attorney Denny Crane in the television series Boston Legal.

he is also know as as a real good singer, it started in 1968 whild filming Star trek
he record "The Transformed Man", The album is best remembered for showcasing Shatner's now-famous vocal style—spoken word with a number of dramatic pauses and flourishes. Shatner started playing up this aspect of his career in the 1990s as he enjoyed a resurgence of popularity, this time as a pop-culture icon. The actor/singer appeared in a number of commercials for Priceline.com, where the unique musical style displayed in The Transformed Man was showcased for humorous effect.

Appearing with Shatner in some of those commercials was pop music's Ben Folds. The two formed a professional relationship that would ultimately lead to the release of Shatner's second album, Has Been, in 2004.

that album became a smash succes and well like
