JANUARY 23, 2007

It was on this in day in 1997 that R & B pioneer Richard Berry pass away at the age of 61, why was he imporant he was the song writer who wrote the most over play song in music history and it still get play over and over aging to this day "Louie Louie" a hit by the Kingsmen in 1963.

Dont know if he have been in rock n roll hall of fame yet because in 1986 the rock n roll hall of fame was born with the 1st induction ceremony was held in New york city, but no hall yet that did not come untill 1995 where the hall was set up in Cleveland, the First class of the hall was (Who would you expect)Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley.

Nirvana won't be elgable untill 2014, but the seed was first planted on this day in 1988 where kurt and the boys record a 10 songs demo and send it to ever indie lable out there, Seattle little SUB POP records hear and like and released the single and the rest is hitory for both Nirvana and SUB POP.

So you dont miss out on new music he what is coming out today from the only bands that matter because today is

The Local News Round-up out of the weekend
(Any News story in Detroit Rock City)
(E-Mail
Culturecitynewstips@yahoo.com)

it look like the super bowl match up were asking for will happened but sadly a year too late. i know you are asking you self why this super bowl match Chicago and Indy which is going to happen at Super Bowl XLI in Miami on Feb. 4, so why are you saying it a year too late.

Well as you probable well aware last year Super Bowl was held right here in Detroit Rock City at Ford Field with Pittsburgh Steelers winning there fifth Super bowl over the defeated the Seattle Seahawks, 21–10 in one pour play super bowl, but to tell you the Truth it should have been the Indianapolis Colts vs the Chicago Bears, but for those of you the follow NFL Football and the playoff that lead to the super bowl it did not go that way.

Indianapolis(315 miles from Detroit) have the best season in history going 14-2 but they loss to a six seed in eventual Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers after then kicker Mike Vanderjagt 46-yard field goal went wide-right.

Chicago (281 Miles from Detroit) who made the playoff for the in four years and in there first playoff game vs Carolina Panthers pulled upset the Bears, 29-21, so we did not get a regional super bowl for the Detroit Super Bowl, but having Pittsburgh(286 miles from Detroit) in the super bowl did make up for half of the Business we did not get from Chicago, Green Bay, Minnesota, or if it will ever happened the Lions (but from the way it going it may be a pipe Dream)

But both teams and there fans will be loving it because it going to be in Miami (Chicago 1,375 miles From Miami, Indianapolis 1,194 miles from Miami)where today it 81° today and here in Detroit at metro Airport it cold and 27°.

Weekend was OK did not do much on Friday, on Saturday i did listen to the Riff 2 take over on WRIF-FM over the weekend, did go to the Detroit local 101 listen party at Small but it was smack dab during a regular gig night and as a almost result did not get in, Ouch!, but i did get in but it was tough to listen to because there was so many people because it was a gig night at small.

On Sunday, My Brother Mike came back after a two year Jail Scenting on some guns Charges so that was nice to see him aging it been two years and i hopped he have changed, so let see.

All right let see what is going on all over Detroit rocks City this week, well were almost six week aways from the hamtramck blowout Ten and the line up For the blowout will Finally be Out in the Jan. 31 Metro Times and on the MetroitTimes.com and well on this blog sight, but in about almost every talk i have been in they have say that playing the Blowout, so last night i went to my space and look to see who is playing the Blow out and here what i found out the Following bands will played the blow out New Grenada, I, Crime, Shoe., Bricktown Station, The Dispaly, The Smashing Windows and the Grand Nationals.

Those bands are playing the blowout as we know so if you are plating the metro time Hamtramck Blowout and if you like every one to know pleased drop me a line at Culturecitynewstips@yahoo.com.

in about a week and a half in the metro times every thing on who playing and where and who is playing the pre-party at the Stick Complex and who headlining Saturday Night.

Speaking about bands playing the blowout, a band that might played the blowout The Glam Band The Sirens are setting one of those infamous C.D. released party for there second album "More is More" which will be out on Feb. 27 on Mu Sick Record, but you will get it early at the CD released gig at the Northern Lights Lounge at Detroit New Center Area on Saturday Feb.17 cover will be Five Bucks and the Opener with be a solo set by Danny Kroha of the Demolition Dolls Rods with music spun by the Bubblegum Bros.

and speaking about My space, two bands that are not from Michigan but are well love in the Detroit area is warming up for some new music.

The Tough and Lovely have put up portion of two songs from there Forthcoming 2nd album that will be out some time in 2007, there are "Take Me Back" and More, More, More" and you can find it on there my space at www.myspace.com/thetoughandlovely.

Canadian supergroup Arcade Fire wows high school students

Indie-rock super group the Arcade Fire pulled a 180-degree reversal on tradition Friday night and played for a cafeteria full of high school students.

Teenagers are often told they have to be 19 years old to see their favourite band live, so the event was somewhat atypical — but the Arcade Fire is not your typical band.

In case you’ve been living under a rock for the past two years, the Montreal-based band — including Ottawa members Jeremy Gara and Richard Reed Parry — is about as hot as a still young band can be, and the follow-up to their hugely popular and critically acclaimed 2004 release, Funeral, is due out March 6.

The sophomore record, Neon Bible, is being anticipated by fans and critics to be one of the biggest rock albums of the year.

Tickets to all of the band’s 16 warm-up shows — warm-up appearances, not full-scale concerts — sold out. Passes to the dates in Montreal and New York sold out in minutes, and Friday night a pair for the Feb. 10 show at Montreal’s Ukrainian National Federation sold for $283.99 U.S. on e-bay.

Students, staff, and some alumni at Ottawa’s Canterbury High School got to see Canada’s biggest band-on-the-brink for just 25 bucks.

But getting in was no simple task. In order to get your hot hands on one of the 400 tickets, you had to be a Canterbury student or alumnus. Tickets were sold during the school’s lunch hour, and each student was allowed to bring a “guest” from another high school. Media were strictly prohibited.

“They would only let you in if you were in high school, and they checked your student ID at the door,” said 17-year-old Matt Bostelaar, who attends Bell High School.

Because he is an “outsider,” he said the Canterbury vice principal called his school to make sure he wasn’t a trouble-maker. “No cameras, or even cell phones were to be opened during the show, either,” he added. Mixed within the youthful crowd were “a few Canterbury alumni ... but the majority, by far, were high school students,” Matt said.

“It was meant to be very secretive,” explained Matt Nelson, 17, whose sister, Meredith, attends the arts-oriented school.

Those who were lucky enough to get inside were treated to just more than an hour’s worth of mostly new music, including their latest single, Intervention, and a handful of tracks from previous releases. Despite it being the band’s first warm-up show, their performance was said to be polished.

“I’m almost speechless,” Matt Nelson gasped after the show. “They played extremely well,” he added.

“They all knew their cues and the songs,” Matt Bostelaar added. “I can’t believe how they play those instruments ... It wasn’t the best acoustics, it being a cafeteria, but they still sounded phenomenal.”

“The instrumentation was simply amazing,” said 17-year-old Megan Miller.

“Their instrumentation is definitely the allure of the band, because that’s what makes them so interesting and so unique … They had two French horns going, three violinists, there was a bass clarinet, a clarinet, of course a bass guitar, they had a upright double bass going on, there was at least three keyboards … the drum set was amazing, they had the accordions, there was a mandolin... “

“The instrumentation was insane,” concurred Matt Bostelaar, who likened the arrangement of sounds to that of Broken Social Scene.

He said the new tracks are “darker” than those found on Funeral. “The basslines are a lot heavier and more pronounced,” he said.

“I think they added a lot more vocals,” said Megan Miller, who said that as many as seven of the 12 band members were singing in unison at times.

The band took to the cafeteria stage around 8:15 p.m. and played nearly non-stop for more than an hour. “They were able to fuse a lot of their songs together … I could count the number of times there was silence between songs on my hand,” said Matt Bostelaar.

While Megan Miller does not attend Canterbury High School, she said the school deserved the special treatment, and the students would appreciate the performance.

“They’re all studying classical music, she explained. “This was a very appropriate venue.”

Richard Reed Parry, a guitarist and percussionist with the group, provides the Canterbury connection.

He graduated from the school’s literary arts program in 1995. All money raised from the show will support the Canterbury Arts Centre Development Association, a charitable organization that supports arts programming at the school.

The Arcade Fire goes to London, England Jan. 29, where they will play five of their warm-up shows. The rest of the practice gigs will be split between Montreal and New York City before they kick off the full-scale European tour in Dublin, Ireland on March 5. The last time the group played Ottawa was in 2005, when they opened the Corel Centre for U2. A forthcoming North American tour has been announced, though dates and locations have yet to be released.
