Indie Music Round-Up

i hoped you see the New Music Tuesday for March 20 of next year to see who will released album on that day because Iggy Pop and the Stooges have set that date for there first album since 1973's Raw Power, it will be called the Weirdness and it will have Iggy guitarist Ron Asheton, and drummer Scott Asheton(all orginail stooges) Steve Mackay on sax and Minutemen/fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt will pick up the bass from the late Dave Alexander (who pass away in 1975).

The Album was writen in Sunny Florida, rehearsed in iggy home state of Ann Arbor, Michigan, recorded in Chicago with fame indie producer Steve Albini, and mastered at Abbey Road's famed studios in London.

Song will inclued "Greedy Awful People," "Mexican Guy," "I'm Fried," "ATM," "She Took My Money" and "End of Christianity", after they released the Lp they will go on tour with a Detroit like the reuion show in 2003.

in a follow up to a post last month Oklahoma City city council Have name a alley after the home town band Flaming Lips', The alley which is located in the Bircktown setion of city's entertainment and restaurant district.

you can Click on the link to see front man Wayne Coyne talking about the honor on the the web sight of the CBS Station in OK City, KWTV-TV(CBS-9)

now speaking about bands, my fave Trans-plant detroit band form a near by out of state city (next to the Tought and Lovely, The Raining Sounds, and The Dials) The Ponys will drop there major lable debut called Turn The Lights Out, on
Matador, it will drop on March 20th the same day as The Stooges New Album and i wait for the new album Matador have drop a track fgrom the new album called Double Vision

also released online from all the music sight is a dark X-mas remix of the song "Reindeer" from there self-title album, and it for the Holiday and it called "Christmas Reindeer" but unlike the song on the album it a lot shorter, Draker, and Edger track the song in online from all the music blog and music web sight.

So here is the link to
"Christmas Reindeer."

and One peice of aviced if you are plan to go to the ARCADE FIRE when they tour in 2007, Get them early, Real Early there five show in there hometown of Montreal at the Ukrainian National Federation have been sold out in just only three Mintues for a venue that house 660 fans, so that mean if they book a show at either The State Theaher, or The Fox Theaher or Clutch Cargos, that mean it could be gone in about less than 10 mintues.

and Finally in you got to be kidding me the man who know thought out the world as daredevil Evel Knievel have sued The rapper knpw thought out the world as Kanye West, Why over a music video.

Evel clam in the lawsuit trademark infringement, in the video for "Touch the sky", which co-stars Pamela Anderson and West's alter-ego 'Kanyievel' donning the Evel signature red, white and blue leather suit, illustrates the rapper boarding a rocket and unsuccessfully attempting to launch across a giant canyon much like Evel did over 32 years ago at Idaho's Snake River Canyon(Which became the high rated ABC Wild World os sport Ever, that before ESPN)

Evel lawyer, told MTV the video is "more as a rip-off," Evel is asking to be compensated for uses of his likeness and trademark." stop showing the video

well i try to find the video of that Snake River Canyon Jump but can find it but i did find the Video that have Evel all steam.

Follow Up Update

Here is a follow up to the story i broke last night on the blog on the end of Michael Colman regin as GM at the used to be cool WDET-FM the the Detroit Free Press added more to the Story in today edition (Link to the Story Here) the Interm GM for the time begin will be Nabelah Ghareeb, an administrator in the WSU office of business operations as Wayne state will conduct a national search for a new GM and is looking for a veteran radio executive.

Unlike the story in the News yesterday when Coleman told the news that he resign on Monday, Francine Wunder, director of corporate and public affairs for WSU was unsure when Coleman tendered his resignation but will be effective Dec. 31. but only she said "We know nothing more than he decided to pursue other things,"

also it have plague by really high staff turnover, as i mention on the post yesterday many people on-air and and in the Front office accroing to the Free Press almost 24 staffers including Joh Mosher, Jerome Vaughn, and Joan Silvi also they have been having troble fund raising at the station with the Fall Fund Raiser raising only $250,000 that less than 57% from there goal of $600,000, the Spring fund raiser only raise $4300,000 aldoght the they have a small incred in Lister from the Winter and spring book.

When ask about the high staff turn over and financial numbers, Wunder told the Free Press. "Obviously if people are leaving Wayne State, we're aware of the coming and going of its employees. All I know is he has resigned, everything else is still in process. People will talk -- all that been decided is that he resigned."

When mention the news about it, Ex-WDET DJ Willie Willson told me " It disappointing that WDET have Fail in the arts commitey in Detroit and how so many people have lost the job during Coleman tender at DET.

And one more thing i forget to mention in my orgin post that many NPR station not only in Detroit, but all over the country have dump there music with some news format to all news talk format.

So what will happened to the station in the next year it going to still be bumpy but i thing there still going to stick the format to see if there number improved, so will see.

Breaking Culture News

One Year Later after programing Changes at WDET-FM
Michael Coleman out as WDET-FM GM

Late Breaking News at 3:05 AM as i write this and it going to be a big story because it was on this day one year ago on December 12th 2005. WDET dump all the the afternoon music programing For can NPR Stuff, that move along with some hi profiled dumping of DJ cause a big time ripple.

and now how ironic that one year later this came out, This Morning Detroit news (
Link to the story) is report in that WDET-FM Embattled GM Michael Coleman is out, The GM have told the paper that he turn in His resigning letter to Wayne state on Monday and his resignation is effective Dec. 31, ending what have been a Rocky 17 Months as the station where day time music was dump, Staffer was upset and Detroit Progress music Lister was not happy.

The story say Colman left because as he put it because his job was done "I was hired to do a specific job and we changed the format, restored balance to programming, brought the roots music programs back and increased audience numbers substantially," said Coleman. "I'm looking forward to the next great adventure. There's new leadership at Wayne State, and I know the next g.m. will work with the new leadership even better than I did."

but in the story that was put out in the Detroit News web sight the report have trick out a group of disgruntled WDET staffers went to Wayne State managers a month ago demanding change in the g.m.'s office, What was the change it did not say in the report.

Andrea Roumell Dickson, executive vice president and chief of staff at Wayne State, confirmed Coleman's departure. "Michael is leaving us, and I believe the station is in good shape

She also told the paper that she had several candidates in mind for interim general manager but she would not names names.

This end a Rocky 17 months at DET, even in the last year, First longtime afternoon music host Martin Bandyke was Fired, Then Judy Adams Was let go as well as Willie Wilson, That have much of Lister up in arms and it became one of the most conserial program Changes in Detroit Radio history. as they replacement with More NPR Programing (News and Notes, Democracy Now, Here and Now, BBC - World, Have Your Say,Day to Day)

The Station did gain Listener in the Winter and Spring book but the Spring Fundraiser was down 33% and this this fall Fundraiser was not much better from a few report i heard.

As what was WDET-FM is almost gong and on-air talent in both music and the News department was let go or left for other jobs Jon Mosher (Laid-off, Now at C-JAM),Assistant news director Jerome Vaughn(WUOM-FM), reporter Craig Fahle(a public radio station in Charlotte, N.C.), and latest to go news director Joan Silvi who has taken a public relations job with the UAW.

And Don't for get Colman own trouble back in Ann Arbor in March, the station was rocked by charges brought against Coleman of embezzlement. It was charged that he accepted money, airline tickets and restaurant meals while he was deputy director of Michigan Public Media in Ann Arbor. Coleman pleaded no contest and was sentenced in June to two years' probation. He was ordered to pay a fine of $3,500 and perform 50 hours of community service.

Now The Big Question is What this will this mean to the station we just don't know.

This is a just Breaking story that will be follow thought out the day on this web sight.

And For any of you who used to work or still work there at WDET-FM or you just want to get you reaction you can pleased E-mail me at Culturecitynewstips@yahoo.com you can also find the menu at you right or if you want to comment you can click on the bottom of the page.

i think it right to follow up to last week report the the Band Ginat Drag was going to break up, well to clear the picture there not breaking up but the Guy from the Two Peice band is Leaving

Founding member and drummer/keyboardist Micah Calabrese has departed the band for rson not know (maybe running away from annie (Hardy, Front woman) potty mouth), he will go back to his other band which you may neaver hear of it called the Summer in Between(Web:
tsib.kittnet.com/, My Space: www.myspace.com/thesummerinbetween) There not doing any music right now the Lovely and Filty Clean Annie Hardy can be here doing a duet with Chino Moreno and some F***ing spoken word in the new Deftones disc Saturday Night Wrist.

As she do get back together as Giant Drag as she said on bands Members it going to be annie and who ever feel like doing it.
as For the band looking for a the Drummer aMy space page say the Band Member will be "annie and whoever else feels like doing it"-- so, folks, start lining up!, If i know how to play drum and the Keys i would do Ginat drag hey i still single, How much that hurt.
