This Weekend in Culture City

Well, it the weekend but it not any other weekend it the labor day weekend the last weekend to spend with your kids before they go back to school next and also it the last weekend of the summer months and it goning to be a day off for most of the working Force to salute the American labor Workers.

But, Not only that Five, Count them Five big mega gig Festival going all around in Downtown, Hamtramck, near 8 Mile, The yak[AKA Pontiac] and the island on the Detroit River, So For a look at the whole weekend we have to start at the Detroit River.

Downtown Detroit will fill with jazz [although i don't cover jazz on the blog sight] for the the 28th annual Detroit International Jazz Festival it going to be held at in the Downtown area between Hart Plaza and Campus Martius Park over 8 stage, this year Feather acts at this year jazz Fest: Regina Carter, Jazz Master Herbie Hancock, Dave Brubeck.

also playing at Jazz Fest will be Hot Club of Detroit, Patti Austin, Mavis Staples, Bettye LaVette, for more in on Detroit International Jazz Festival including maps and hours just go to

just a five minutes ride up the I-75 in the small encaved town of hamtramck is the a festival the started a year later in 1980 to boost up the city spirits after the Crster corporation shut down the massive Dodge Main paint in the south side of town, is the 27th Annual Hamtramck Festival, it take place from Northern corner of the city main Strip Jos. Campua between Carpenter and Caniff.

the music line-up is not a good as in years past, but there is some worlthy gig from Rare Earth, Powertrane, Question Mark & the Mysterians, the Polish Muslims, and a polka version of Pink Floyd called Polka Floyd and don't forget there always the Polish day parade on Monday, if you want to know more just go to there wab sight at

Further up I-75 but a little bit longer and with a Left turn on eight mile with a turn on Woodward ave. is the last few days of the Michigan State Fair, the oldest state fair in the entire country it where the country met the city on Woodward and 8 mile.

Tickets are 10 bucks and also include is a free gig at the band shell not much worth mentioning expect the last night of the State fair were the one and only "Alice Cooper" the one who sang "School Out" he performing on Monday night at 7 PM.

and Further up Woodward miles aways in Pontiac is the festival that join in the labor day fray back in 1998, it called Chrysler Arts, Beats & Eats and it take place in Downtown Pontiac in the Woodward loop, it mix the Cityfest, the Ann Arbor Art Fair, and the Hamtramck blowout all in the same event on one weekend.
