The Metrotimes Hamtramck Blowout
Day 3 - Were Half Way There
March 9th
Well i have one hell of a busy day today 1st i have to post everything From last night [3/8] notes from my close mole and the tonight line-up which was per pair about two whole weeks in advice for the blow out and tonight Live and local wheater if you are walking to gig to gig in hamtramck
and to tell you the truth i fell a little tired, so putting who to see have been tough who to see and who not to see so i did check almost all bands viva there myspace page, so this who to see was tough because just like SXSW there almost three or four band who you want to see but there all playing at the same time.
So I took it easy tonight only going to two venues the Holbrook Cafe and the HQ for the blowout the K of C, was not going to take the bus after last night 45 minutes drive to no where, but i did take the bus only once But i will get to that later, i started my night a little late because i was finish up this report so i was stuck in the house, once i was finish i went to Detroit Threads to check out there Fashtion show/Dj set, i was O.K. as it was a walking fashion show with moldes walking around the crowd modeling the ware of the pretty Sarha Spyware which was good .
But i left early because of the late start because i went to the 1st show of the night, which was the Metroitmes blowout head quarters the kinghts of Columbus and i check out a band of a few friends of mine, The Lincoln's U.K. which consit of Mark on lead vocals, his wife Jen on drums and she is a good drummers to say the leased and the one and only Mikey brown [he did double duty as he play with shoe. over at the planet ant, but i did not go to that, and i sorry if i did not go to that] on the other Guitars and they was fabulous with a mix of there indie rock and old school rock and roil, this is the second time i have seen them and there are great.
I Stick around for a little whield and then i walk to the Holdbrook Cafe to see a band who used to be "Fifth Period Fever" now called "Scarlet Oaks" [Who i mention on my blog sight on the local news round up] as they played there country Influences rock which was very good for a band that only played for a few weeks, the bands make up consit of brothers Steve and Patrick McCauley and the always Lovely Noelle Christine.
So i stuck around trying to think where to go next and during the long break i did meet up with a lot of old high school friends and i did talk to a close friend who i have not seen i a long time, so i stick around for the 1st six songs from one of my fave new bands [1st saw them last year at the 2006 Detroit News Battle of the bands] The Decks and they was very good for the set i stick around as some time it remind my of a early sonic youth.
so i was thinking about walking back to the K of C, but i saw a surprise the shuttle bus in front of the Holbrook, now after the what happened last night after driving around 45 minutes trying to get to the K of C to see a band, so i roll the dice and took the shuttle bus to the K of C and believed it or not it took about five minutes to get to the Holbrook to K of C which is a improvement.
once i got to the K of C i saw for the 1st time since the "I Came From Detroit" Film Permeir at the DFT at the DIA in Oct. 2006, But with a new line up "Outrageous Cherry" as they play a very good but low key set with news bass player Sean Elwood and new Drummer Samantha Linn [Who i talk to before the show and is aw arm and nice person] they played a very good from the CD "Stay Happy" which was released back in October.
i stick around the K of C for the rest of the night to see a band who i don't see alot but i was happy to see them "The Go who preform aging from the tired crowd at the K of C they play what i been told there tightest set yet as they play a lot of old stuff and mostly new stuff from there new self Title records on Italy and Cass records an hearing them they sound so good and so rocking which was good.
Well it was the end of the night at the blow out at it time to go home as it rained i did notice the marque's outside the K of C and some prankster who some how change the sing at the begging of the night, the sing say THE METROTIMES HAMTRAMCK BLOWOUT HEADQUARTERS 2007 WELCOME by the end of the night the prankster change it to BLOWOUT ROCK HARD QUARTER 20, yikes
tomorrow is the last night of the blowout
and with so many headliners playing at the same time
This will be tough.

[We interpupt the coverage of the Hamtramck Blowout because yestreday was friday and if you read this web sight on a Daily based, it now time for Film Gudie Friday.]

The Metrotimes Hamtramck Blowout
Day 2 - Now in Hamtramck
March 8th
Last was the first of three full night of the Metrotimes Blowout back in the home base of Hamtramck and it was one of those night that got you asking O.K. where to go first in the big show since expect for one band [almost free who i miss going to the wrong venue, more later] did not know any band that was playing the 9 P.M. slot i did listen to every band on my space expect one or two bands that don't have a my space page i did not find anything that was worth going to so i stared the night light.
i went to the P.L.A.V Post 10 for my first band of the night Paragon and i say around three or four songs so i went down Jos. campau to the bakers streetcar bar and i was thinking i was seeing almost free.[who played the first Detroit News battle of the bands in 2005] at the Bakers but during the middle of of the set i was checking out the wrong band, The band i saw was Harwell who was good a few people for the work week.[the band almost free. was at the locker room in NE hamtown] after i went to a few venue where there was nothing, i took the shuttle bus i hoping to go see Timmy Vulger at the holbrook and a friend told me that his gig was going to begin at 10:30 PM so i was change my plans to go to the Knights of Columbus to catch the Drinking problem who played at 10:15 PM and that when the real fun Begin.
I took the shuttle which look like the old D-DOT Trolley that used to run downtown [Pre-People Movers] and that where the adventure begin it was running slow big time it stop at each venue with a real long wait going to each venue i got to the K of C almost 45 minutes after i got on, i was a little steam but lucky i did see the band after all that driving around.
I was Flip flopping between the brand new lounge stage which is inside the K of C and the big main hall, where it was transform in a concert hall/flea market as the rock 'n' rummage crew, in the Live Lounge stage i saw a all-star band which was called Drinking Problem, it a all star band with Eddie Baranek from the Sights, Korin Cox from the Hard Lessons and songwriter songwriter Dave Lawson and i got to tell you there where good with there pop rocking country sound and i went back to see Eons which was feather quite well in the Metroitmes this week and they sound good.
So. i stick around for the awesome The Muldoons and i got to tell you this it look like ever time i see The Muldoons they get better and better whit each show they play and i think it speak volumes of there Growing fan base.
I left at the end of the show and since i did not want to be stuck thanking the shuttle bus aging, so i walk from the K of C to the locker room bar Carolyn Striho but when i got there she was in the middle of her last song so i total miss the whole thing but she was good from the last show and she look nice last night as well So missing out on Carolyn Striho i went down the road to Paycheck bar to catch indie rock group I, Crime but they did not get on until 12:45 AM so i got there to early so i have a little shut eye for rest because i have a long night already.
The band was very good playing there smooth indie rock as they warm the few people who was there but a always i have to leave the paycheck and go back to the K of C but i miss Augie of the hard lessons side project with his cosions who happened to be maria from the decks which is called "Youth Group Of Rome" but i miss them, but i got to see the last band of the night "His Names is Alive" warren de Fever long time band who i got to see last time at stormy records in Dearborn when they opened up with Lisa Germano and i see this band aging and you got to like the vocal of there lead singer who go by Andy A.M.[Her Stage Name].
So Two down, Two more Days to go
and the weather for day three will be nice.

Night 1 Recap
Blow Out Pre-Party
March 7th, 2007
well last night was a cold night as always in early march it, at least it did not snow all night because there was no snow, but i know it was going to warm up inside with all the great music with a slight chill between the stick and the big stage [AKA going between stick and and Majestic] , it was the 8th year for the pre-blowout party, the six year with live music and the 5th year for the Per show at the stick complex for a showcase gig the have grow five times since4 that 1st year in 1998 where it have 6 venues with 72 bands over 2 night [this year have 20 venues with 250 bands over 4 night.
got there at 7:45 PM and i know i would met almost everybody, the first people i saw was Brandon and Andrew of the display we talk also i saw Augie of the hard lesson and saw all the people from the metro times from Anthony morrow the guys who put up the blow out and the pretty Booker for the blow [sorry guys she already taking] also i saw one half of smoke break and the MT Music editor the one and only and just got a good clean cut Johnny Loftus and a lot of friend who i saw thought out the year at music gig all year round [and sorry i for got your names because i went to sleep last night came home at 3:15 AM and have no time to do a report last night].
before the show there was plenty of active before the blow out Dorkwave was still setting up there with a little puzzle poster behind the front entanc of the stick poster of Pablo Escabat, Jonh Amchied and Bo Dereck, what did they have in common i did not solve it because i was roaming around the stick complex.
When to the big stage and check out a Scion tC car in the front of the stick theater as Scion have there visual cars for the surband Detroit Scion Dealers and i saw my friends for the rock and rummage sale as Casey and Beth was selling there old school wears to the rock and roll crowds Wilde over at the stick the stick bands of the muggs and the slient years was selling there CD and T-shirts wield the very lovely handmade Detroit crew of Carrie [who was feather in the back pages of MT this week]Lish, and early friend of the blog sight Stephanie, also Liz from thophy wife clothing was also selling her t-shirts as well as i told her she remind me of Jenny Lewis of Rilo Kiley.
After almost two hours of taking note here and there with no music there was music to be have in culture city as at 10:12 PM there was music as the Great Lakes Myth Society took the stage as they play there rocking folk which pretty much ramp up the crowd into year ten of the blowout i saw them play half the set and then i rush upsair to see the last two songs "The Satin Peaches" and they warm the crown as well after that i thought because before the the first band played at the theater it was almost half full and i thought there is no way i would get in to see "The Hard lessons" because there one of the hottest band in all of Detroit.
But i did get in to Detroit fave three pieces band and they play a lot of old stuff and a lot of new stuff which one fan told me it is the tightest that have ever seen in years, there lead singer Augie was on with the crowd as Ko-Ko Louise[who strike a new dark hair do] and the Anvil keep on banging the beats as the band played what was one of there of the best Detroit gig they every played as they played if you feel alright they have two dress owl tell in the crowd if you feel alright, there set tonight was feenomall as they now set there sight on SXSW.
I try to run to back to the stick to see THE SILENT YEARS but when i got up there, i thought they just finish so i ram around back at the handmade Detroit booth until i really the the band was still playing, so since i miss a lot of there set i ask around and some fans told me there was good some some say they was great and some body told me that they describe there sound as Radiohead v.s.Wilco.
So with a lot of time to kill i walk around the stick waiting for the talking the bartender and hanging out in the back of the stick untill 12:15 as the muggs channel there inter led zeppelin as tony and Danny muggs played there brand of rock and Soul to a very full crowd, I stick around for about five or six song until i went down the theater to see the last band of the night at the theater and it was kind of special as for the 1st time i got to see the husband and wife duo which was Adult. which was fun, which was good, which was rocking, which was hards and which was Loud, Very, Very Loud i say for about a good half a hour until i say i need a rest for my ears so i went back to see the tale end of the muggs set.
and in between the set i check out the Dorkwave dance party they have a good set up and they have the crow dancing and they did have a good set of to the only one i remember was "materials issues" into the one and only "verruca salt"
So night one fo the blowout is in the books and it was a succfully lanuch to the 10 blow out and now it on to hamtown because there about 244 bands to go.
