GIRLS ROCK

At the Rock 'n' Roll Camp for Girls, kids from eight to 18 are taught that it's OK to scream like a banshee, wail on their instruments with abandon, and be "100% okay with exactly who you are." The girls have a week to pick band mates, an instrument and write a song. In between, they are schooled by indie rock chicks, such as Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney, in lessons of empowerment from self-defense to anger management. What happens to all the girls – as they are given a temporary reprieve from being sexualized, analyzed and pressured to conform – is moving and revolutionary. (90 min.)

(75 min.)

In Creature With the Atom Brain

The Culture City Blog Site HQ got sock again

tell me if you have heard this before

for the third time in almost the last two years my basement got flood aging.

at around 3:30 PM i was doing the film guide Friday until a little water got in to the Office, thank god i have a water pump near by and it was running all the time with a few stop in between and worst i lock myself out of the office and double worst i left the TV and the computer on so that not good.

so there will be a lot of cleaning up the whole weekend so i will try to put this week "Film Guide Friday" out but because the long clean up i will not be posting the end of the culture city feature 50 until two week from now.

Remember Next week i reporting on City Fest at the new center area

Don't worried i am OK

But tell you the thuth 3 flood in the last two years i don't know how long i am doing my site from the basement HQ

It 9 O'Clock

And Next week at this same time after day two of Comerica Cityfest
i hope you will come to the Belmont as you see on of my fave bands From Chicago as they gave birth to there new CD

And yes there is youtube video

it will be "the Dials" as they did a live and local Detroit gig to released there brand now album "Amoeba Amore" out now on Ann Arbor base "No Fun Records" which is run by The Avatars drummer Claudia Leo.

also on the big live and local gig will be "The Coronados and "The Dial Tones" the gig begin at 10 PM

so tonight in this post a few selection of the band live

so here are

"The Dials"

A indie news round up right now

I know, i have not done a local news or indie report in about the last five months since my PC problem and sound card issued and not only that trying to get back in the swing of this after four months off so since everything is almost under control.

here is a few little notes to kick back.

first, this Friday at the D.F.T.[Detroit film theater] at the D.I.A. [Detroit Institute of Arts] will present the movie "Girls Rock!" a doc about a rock and roll camps for girls there will be two showing on Friday and Saturday night [7 and 9:30 PM]and one showing on Sunday at 4 PM.

but Saturday there will be a side show before both showing of the film as the Motor City Midwives which is a make up from "The Decks" band mates Molly-Jean Schoen and Maria Nuccilli they will preform early before the film so get there early.

then after that both will join there other bands mates Alex and Hank as the decks opening up with the "Fonda's" at the Northern Lights in the New Center Area.

Now i don't put the Cliff Bell's on the Outdoor gig Guide radar buy i have to mention the CD released gig for a band who been playing here and there, but there doing a gig this Sunday to released there self title C.D., it Sunshine Doray a band that make up of "Come on" [and long time friend] Deanne Iovan and Kate Feeny who is also married to Dave Feeny of "Blance' who record and produced the CD.

The gig is on Sunday with Serenity Court and you are wondering where cliff bell's is at well it located at 2030 Park street just a block west of the state theater in Down ton Detroit.

and it was noticed last Sunday ground braking comic "George Carlin" died at age 71 of heart failure he was a really good comic who was a influence on many of the comic today and not only that push the limit of what you can and can mot say on TV.

in tribute, this Saturday night on NBC they will run the first ever SNL from Oct. 11, 1975 which was hosted by George Carlin and that will be fun to look back and also until Saturday, HBO will rerun his 12 of his 14 concert special it will be run on HBO 2.

and also two site note of this blog one after my coverage of Comerica Cityfest next week, i be talking to the owner of the Belmont in Hamtramck to book "Culture City Live 3" my third night a good music from the culture city, now i did two DJ night once at the Belmont back in Jan. or Feb of this year and one more back in May at the Norther Light Lounge in Detroit New Center area.

Now the first two have bands, ranging from Tory Grogrey, I,Crime, Giant Tigers, and Dead Letters well if i do culture city live 3 i will need two bands to play around in between the set so if you want to play Culture City Live pleased contact the blog site at Culturecitynewstips[at]yahoo[dot]com or belmontpr[at]yahoo[dot]com.

and one more thing if you remember back before last year before my computer got sick i was doing the Culture City Festive 50 and before i stop which turn out ti be four months i just did part four [No.20 to No.11] and stop at the Outdoor gig guide for new years eve 2007, so i hope it a go for this week the last 10 band in the festive 50 2007 so you find out the top 10 band that matter in 2007, and that 6 long months out.

Continuing Culture City coverage of the "Raid at the CAID"

Update on The Raid in the C.A.I.D

There have been no updates since June 5th on the raid that took place on May 31st at the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit East side on Rosa Parks Blvd. near W. Warren just about a block from Wayne state U.

This Culture News story have been one of the biggest story to rock the indie culture scene since WDET-FM Format change fiasco back in 2005 and have been blowing up on the bloggersphee ever since, but with a gag order in place on everybody involve in the case it is tough to get any kind of info what so ever.

but i can tell you in talking to my scorced during the rock city festival [which did go as planned] i could tell so new info, first two weeks ago they held the arraignment for all 130 people who show up on the fateful gig my scorced told me that all 130 plead not guilty to the loitering in a place where alcohol, but in a Detroit free press columns today [6/25]

also my scored also told me that each one of those who got ticket on may 31st will be try one by one and it will be held between Late June to Early August, you hear me right there going to used the whole month to try every a conviction out of every one, but there have been talk to take one of the 130 defendce and make this one case to represent the whole group, meaning if the defenda is found not guilty the other 129 could be thrown out.

the 130 are begin repersenst by lawyers of American Civil Liberties Union and the National Lawyers Guild who are volunteered their services for those who got busted.

also thing have change for the CAID until fuhrer noticed they have cancelled all there late night gig inculing the Art Fag Inc. night but "The Blue Moon in June" will goes as plan this Saturday.

and there is a couple of more note, it was mention in a Detroit Free Press article a two weeks ago that during the raid they found no drugs, weapons, people with outstanding warrants at the CAID, and in a columns in today Free Press that police seized one 30-pack of beer, three 5-liter boxes of cheap wine, one sound mixer and two professional-quality turntables and don't forget 44 cars was impound on that night.

i will put link to both free Press Article
but i will do cometary to a article that was kind of Clueless

Programme 2 - The Police

It's 1983. Margaret Thatcher won a landslide victory, the Hitler Diaries were published, and one of the biggest bands on the planet, Police, were on the verge of splitting up.

Their album, Synchronicity, had achieved the Number 1 slot in the UK and the USA partly due to the popularity of the song, Every Breath You Take.

The Police joined David "Kid" Jensen on Radio 1 for a Bank Holiday special, but personal and creative tensions were escalating, and shortly after this they split up.

Featuring extracts from the interview, Marc will catch up with Jensen to see if he was aware of the tensions at the time and whether the split came as a surprise to him.

Acid House - The Next Generation
Tuesday 6:33 PM EDT

Searching for the generation that refused to grow up, Chris Coco discovers the last youth culture movement to make a social impact - Acid House.

Smiley faces, repetitive beats and party nights that never seemed to end, sum up the halcyon days of Acid House in 1988. Twenty years later dance music is still hedonistic, but the early pioneers are now part of the establishment, with families of their own.

By talking to those who were there and those still out on the dancefloor, Chris will explore where those Acid House beats will lead next; whether things will be different this time around for emerging music scenes; and what he should be saying to his own teenage son.

Featuring contributions from Peter Hook, Annie Mac, Chemical Brothers, X-press 2, Pete Tong, Tom Finlay, Carl Cox, Judge Jules, Klaxons and ravers young and old.

This documentary is part of BBC Radio 2's Dance Season.

Every Saturday 2:04 PM EDT

Programme 2: Explosion - 1988-1993

This was dance music's finest hour and a milestone in the history of UK youth culture.

The impact of the first seminal clubs - Shoom, Future, The Trip, Land of Oz and The Hacienda - created a media furore not seen since the emergence of punk.

Although there were subtle but important regional differences in sound, the same spirit was found in the clubs of Glasgow, Stoke, Cardiff, London and Bristol.

Raves moved to bigger outdoor venues, culminating with a three day event for over 30,000 people at Castlemorton in Worcestershire.
