(Canada/2008—directed by Yung Chang)

In China it's known simply as “The River.” But the Yangtze – and all the life that surrounds it – is undergoing a transformation wrought by the largest hydroelectric project in history: the Three Gorges Dam. Chinese-Canadian director Yung Chang returns to the stunning, quickly-disappearing landscape of his grandfather’s youth to trace the surreal experience of a lavish “farewell cruise” – packed with well-to-do American and European tourists – as it traverses the gargantuan waterway. Overflowing with wit and deeply perceptive humanism, Chang captures a decisive moment in modern history in what The New York Times called “An astonishing documentary of culture clash and the erasure of history.” (93 min.)

The Desk Chiar review of today in the PC Olympic

Sorry for no post yesterday
i deiced to take the day off
and decide to go to the only good gig
during the entire Olympic "The Duke Spirit" at the stick

i need that time off for the live and tape for live t.v.
and all coverage on-line the trouble i am not watching on the sliver light app
i am watching on beta player where you only get one feed and not only that some that want to watch the replay are begin flew away when the thumbnail is giving away the result ouch!

Oh well, now there one thing i have to mention before i do a full rundown.
because this because subject i should know after seeing so many band with female lead singer and female member in bands over the years

it all about the opening ceremony and one of the moment of the was a 9 year old girl singing "Ode to the Motherland" in front 91,000 people and billions worldwide it sound so pretty, so good, any girl would sing it well it turn out the little 9-year girl was faking it.

i was a seven year girl got the nod to sing at the opening ceremony but was replace by the 9 year old girl because she was not cute engoht, so if you was asking why not have the 9-year gold sing it live, well Beijing official said her voice was not good, so they used a 7 years voice on a 9 year old.

now i was watching it on Friday i did not notice but this story have been getting a lot of play and seeing picture of both the girls you have to ask why did they used used the 7 years old she was cute to sing in front of a world wide adduced

if this was held anywhere else other than china, it would get big time scorned but this is turn out because one of those much to do about nothing.

i would be shock if i learn a pretty avg. band with good vocals was using a voice for another Detroit band who look better then then the band i saw, i would ask hard question big time and would a big time Detroit music scandal that ranks among the great like the WDET programing switch, RAID in the CAID, and Jack and Jason brawl at the stick.

Now let move on to the result and the big overall story on these games have been Swimmer Michael Phelps he been on a roll he won two more on Tuesday night making him the greatest Olympian ever with 11 gold after he won the Men's 200m Freestyle and a gold in the in the 4 x 200 freestyle.

he going for gold no. 6 tonight with 200 individual medley[10:48], could tie it with 100 butterfly[10:10 p.m.]and could be the greatest Olympian every on Saturday when he race in te 4X100 medley relay.

So Here the medal standing after almost 6 days

China - 35 [22 gold]
United States - 34 [10 gold]
South Korea - 16 [6 gold]
Australia - 16 [5 gold]
France - 15 [2 gold]

and if you are wondering where is Team Canada
you be surprise to know that after six days
Canada have zero medals so far.
Ouch!

CULTURE CITY LIVE 3

Alright

i think this is the right time to announced this on My blog site
so here it goes

As the editor an the only writer on the it came from culture city blog site
for the last two year i have been focus on the indie culture that have been so under reported that bands that sound so good have been push to the side for the total carp that we been force feed.

i have been doing a good job of it for those last few years but i need to played the music for the last 12 years that i have like so much, so back in February i did my first D.J. night which was called "Culture City Live" which was held at "The Belmont" in Downtown Hamtramck, it was my 1st time doing DJ ever and it was a real fun time, i was going to do it with two bands but a third was added at the last minutes.

it was so good kyle Mcbeey lead singer of the "Dead Letters" ask me to do a second DJ night at the "Northern Light Lounge" at Detroit New Center Area, I D.J. that night with the "Dead Letters", "Giant Tigers" from Nashville and I, Crime and it was a good night.

i have not done a DJ since then

until Now

I am proud Announced

It Came From Culture City
present

CULTURE CITY LIVE 3
"This Time it Count"

it will be held live on
Saturday, September 20
Live as it happened at "The Belmont"
which is located at 10215 Jos Campam (between Holbrook and Caniff)
in Downtown Hamtramck

The Doors will open at 8 PM
they start Charging cover at about 9 PM
and live music will start at 10 PM

Now i will spinning music from the only bands that matters
from 9 P.M. until 2 A.M.
and yes it must end at 2 A.M.
it the law in Michigan.

Now with DJ ing we must have bands
and guess what we will have bands
and we have two bands and may have a tried

The first band who will headline the night
is from Chicago, and i know what you are saying
you got either the Dials or Chicago "Bang! Bang!
the bad news we got neither band
but it would be cool.

We got the crazy indie band from the Windy City

the "oh my god"
www.ohmygodmusic.com - http://www.myspace.com/ohmygod

Now also we got a second band in the Mix
and yes this is live and local
it would not be Culture City Live without a local Band
and we got a local band
and there close friends of the site
and real cool mellow indie rock band

The Decks
http://www.myspace.com/thedecks

Now one more thing i have to mention i have ask a third band
to played the gig on September 20th they may or may not play on Sept 20th
at this time i will not mention the band because i don't want to jinks it

the Cover for this night will be
$5 for anybody 21 and over
$7 for anybody between the age of 18 - 20 years old

it will be a real good time
it going to be live and it going to be local
and it going to be great
Be There.

there is Now 21 Ex-dirtbombs

I was going to hold it

because i was confriable to put this storys out but it now sort of leak out in the bar scene and was mention last night on Riff 2 Detroit Local 101 show last night, so i will go with this.

Troy Gregory who have been a full time member since 2005 told me and everybody that he is leaving the the dirtbombs after the Sept 5th gig at the magic stick.

The Reason for leaving the band is to foucs on other projects like his New Movie that was produce and film here in Detroit [Ed Note: i was in the film as a speaking extra], also he is planning to record his 1st solo record in about four years [2004 "Laura"] and 1st recorded materlar since 2006 when he recorded with The Witches and the 2006 album "Thriller"

and not only that he was to be closer to his wife Laura who is one of the nicest preson in the detroit rock scene.

he notify all the members of the dirtbombs of his departue expect for Ko Melina who have not know about at the time he made his dections but she made have been told about his departure as the time i write this.

His last show will be on September 5th at the magic stick [that a day before the dally in the alley on Sept. 6th], this is not the first time he been with the Dirtbombs, he was a member for December 1999 through October 2000, he replace Jim Diamond in 2004 Full time.

He is now the [i may be wrong, so pleased correct me if i am] he is the 21st ex-members of the band since it was from by mick collins was back in 1995 as the side project for his other well know band "The Gores"

Now who will be the the New bass player of the band
nobody know
But last night on Riff 2 Detroit Local 101
Co - Host and Detroit News Writer Melody Baetens mention
that the members Have a good idea who there going to ask
to fill in for bass.

Stay tune.

Having made a name for himself on the folk scene of New York's Greenwich Village, he formed The Lovin' Spoonful, whose hits included Do You Believe In Magic, You Didn't Have To Be So Nice, Daydream and Summer In The City.

In 2000, he was inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.

2 Tone scored seven hit singles, a top-ten album, and a sell-out UK tour - all within its first year. The label also launched the careers of Madness, The Selecter and The Beat.

Day 2
Sunday, August 9th

as the time you read this a midnight
day three is full underway.

and Oh My god Day three of the Olympic got some drama big time as the end of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay was one of the best of all time, it look like the French was back up the talk and win the event claming they can sink Michael Phelps and Co., but thet almost back up the talk but if was not for Jason Lezak 46 seconds flat on the last lag we would be holding sliver.

Michael Phelps got his second gold, only six more to go

also winning Medal on was Katie Hoff in the 400-meter freestyle it look like for a moment she was going to take home gold and then she nix at the wall by Rebecca Adlington of Britain, and was relagated to the sliver, have not take the top of the podium yet.

also in the swimming final

Japan Kosuke Kitajima won gold in the Men's 100-Meter Breaststroke
Aussie Lisbeth Trickett beat out Christine Magnuson for the Women's 100-Meter Butterfly Gold.

Also, The big warm up to the backyard flip flop cold gym showdown took place
as the women gymnasts team qualifications took place at the National Indoor Stadium,
and as expect both the Chinise and the american finish on top of there group in there sesstion, but the China was a little bit better than the star and stripes girls but not but much.

The American did good despite some mistake on the Floor and on the bars and worst one them member Samantha Peszek twisted her ankle during warm up and was force to do one event the Bars. But did make up for it on Beam to keep it that close.

So that set the big team final on Tuesday Night [EDT] so this this will be glam brawl on the gym floor.

The NBA Stock USA Basketball team began there quest to recalm the gold after a disapointing Brozen back in 2004 in Athens, there 1st opponet was China and there famost big man Yao Ming of the Hoston Rockets who playing his first game since injery his ankle during the NBA season.

The chinese made it very close during the 1st quarter getting with in four as they trail 20-16 but the US team pulled away with a big three quarter where they lead 25-11 to pulled away to win 101-70, Miami Heat Dwayne Wade lead all score with 19 points, follow by his royal scoreness Lebron James have 18 points.

Yao did wall for the chiness with a double-double haveing 13 point and 10 rebounds, and for all you piston fans Tayshaun Prince played eight mintues and have three rebounds.

So After about the end of Day Two
so here is the Medal standing

United States - 8 [2 Gold]
South Korea - 5 [3 Gold]
Italy - 4 [1 Gold]
Russia - 4 [No Gold]
