The Ponys

I can't denied these long time friends of the Detroit music scene from Chicago[and on a personal note long time friends of mine] a spot on the festive 50, they sing to a major indie label and released on the best sounding garage rock album this year with "Turn the Lights Out" and not that they put on one hell of a live show proving the band out of Chicago is keeping what ever left of garage rock alive.

it from one of the best film of the year, a musicial love story [and no i don't mean the overhype suage coated high school musicial] about two struggling musicians played by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová who fall in love and make music in working class Dublin, the sound track was a really gem of a sound track released this year.

oh if you want to know the DVD is out now for the film that gross over $14 million as of December and it was done over a Budget $160,000 U.S. now that was amazing.

The 2007 Culture City Festive 50 - Intorduction

Today is Wednesday, December 26
And there is only six days left in the year 2007

and since there is aboislly No Music News [Indie, Local or otherwise] and i would not waste time with nothing over the last six days, it now time for the series of the post to see the best bands of 2007 and they would be wordily that is 2007

It the Second Annuled "It Came From Culture City" Festive 50 Countdown for 2007.

it the year that the music business is on the ropes, Internet radio theatrn, and concert drought inside the Detroit area, Local Music Still in Hibrithtion.

But it is lucky that there was a lot of great and good music that was released over the last 12 months in Indie music and to reconged the best bands who kick out the most important music that matter in the year, i do this Countdown of the only music that matters.

The History

if any one know the tradition of this the festive 50, it could be trace back to one man: Peel, John Peel The man, the myth, the Legion. The Late great DJ John Peel who broadcasting From Radio 1 when on the air in 1967 until his sudden passing in 2004, The man like to search his fave track of the past 365 days.

The Very 1st winner of the Festive 50 was this band

Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven

over the years other winner select by either him or his Loyal listeners of Radio have range from The Motors, Sex Pistols, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sugarcubes, The Sundays, The Fall, Nirvana, Pulp, Kenickie, Cornershop, Delgados, Neko Case & Her Boyfriends, Melys and if you want to add the Fall in in 2004 which which was released posthumous after he past away in October 2004.

Now we in the states like to say we have a festive 50, but unfornlty were stuck with commerical radio station doing top 89 to 95 to 101 of all the song that are played over and over and over aging they would wind up on some comp CD called "Now that what i called Crap"

The Closet thing that come clost to a festive 50 is across the broader at Unavistve of Windsor Campus radio station CJAM [91.5 FM] it the station that house not one but two former WDET-FM DJ's Jon Mosher and the one and only Judy Adams also house the the long running Brisht Indie show "Cowboys and Indies" which aired from 9:30 PM to midnight every Saturday.

and Since the show begin in 1989 they used the last few weeks of the year to do there own festive 50 list as well, but unlike the peel festive 50 which rate song, this festive 50 that i used for the culture city festive 50 is base on bands that released music this year.

Last year 1st every Festive 50 was a little diffece last year because the list was was put gether with only stuff off the top of my head [the site began in May 2006]but i did put on a good list that was top by Last year Festive 50 winner "The Knife" and last year winner of the local 25 list "S.S.M.".

The Rules

To be eligible for the big Festive 50, they must put out a CD in the whole Calendar year [that mean it must be released January 1st to December 31st]and it must be a hard copy released, not a download album released over the net, meaning you will not be seeing "Radiohead" released "In Rainbow" on the list because it was a download released, but will be eligible on the list Next year because the Hard Copy version will come out Jan. 1, 2008

All album must be full lenght album, no EP are allowed [expect the Local 25 where a CD and a 4 or 5 song EP will be allowed]

now the full list is base on buzz and how did i like the band and not only that i am putt on felling after the album on Spinner or on my space on for anywhere from three or four days to a full week.

The Full Reviel

unlike most best of list it is done in one big post, but on this site it is done a little bit difference, each day i post up to ten released From Now[December 26th] to December 30th and on New Year Eve on December 31th i will revield a Smaller Local version of the Festival 50 which is called the festive 50 - Local 25 where the best local bands of the 2007 will be posted.

So the Next post, will begin the 50 bands that should matter to you, but you was to overdose on American Idol.

Enjoy the Festive 50 2007.
