The Culture City
Festive 50 - 2006

(The Last of Five Part)

This is it

i have reach the end of the line, the last 10 bands in the first ever, and hopefully not the last ever Culture City Festive 50 Countdown of the Fifty bands you have not heard because you are spending way to much time listen to K-Fed or Justin timberlake album.

These are the Fitty bands that shoude matter to you now and in the futher but it you miss any one of the 40 other bands in this Countdown you can check out the right of this menu and check out each of the four other parts of this count down. and just before i reveal the top three i do the Full rundown and aging after the countdown.

But before i run Down the Final ten i have two Honor to mention on the end of the Countdown, one at the beginning and one at the end, the fun part with these best of list is too see the bands that don't get love get there due Mission of Burma, The Thermals, Wolfmother, SEAN LENNON, THOM YORKE, and Final Fantasy(yes kids there is a band called Final Fantasy) got called out for the people who really follow music now if they just when back to the old days of getting there music played.

you see back in the old days they would play a gig on TV where they play a song from there million selling album and there clueless host ask dume questions to know where did they get the band name,(Hey we all ask that question) and there will be some show where they be part of a countdown show where there song get played.

There was not a show here in the U.S (the closest we got to a countdown show was America Top 10 (on TV) and 40 (on Radio) with Casee Kassie), but there was a show that have the record for longest Variety show on TV, it was on BBC-TV for 42 years for a show that was going to aired for Six Weeks, It began on New years day on January of 1964 as Radio DJ Sir Jimmy Savile told viewer it 6:30 it something that have never been done before and it was called Tops of the Pops from a former church that have been converted in to a TV Studio in Manchester, England.

The First band to appeared on the show was The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, the Dave Clark Five, The Hollies, The Swinging Blue Jeans with and that week No.1 The Beatles with "I Want to Hold Your Hand" For 2,204 shows it took UK music fans a half Hours journey that took them thought Five Decade of music and style presented by the DJ at BBC radio one Alan Freeman, Pete Murray and David Jacobs,John Peel, David Jensen, Tony Blackburn, Richard Skinner, Dave Lee Travis, Janice Long, Gail Porter, Jamie Theakston, Fearne Cotton, Reggie Yates(i know you are ask other then John Peel i don't know the other DJ).

they hit there peak in 1975 where the show reach almost 15 million viewers a week and it survived the changed in music, as well as time changes From Thursday to Friday and then until the end on Sunday, a lot of reworking of the show if the changing of the logos was any indication. But they can not survived the Internet (i.e. we don't know how to program a music show.)

The writing was on the wall and the show ended on July 30 as Sir Jimmy Savile who started the show ended with the line he Coin "It's still number one, it still top of the Pops" as Sir Jimmy closed the light on a TV show forever(Unless they pull a Doctor who out of the hat)

So we Honor the TV show with a clips from long running TV Show.

Album released this year: The Greatest

she would be the No.1 of the year, but if it was not for a late night ride back home with Metro Times Techno writer Walter Wasaca i would not be talking about the crazy mix mash Indie Electronic Synth-pop band from Sweden, The Land of hockey and they give us Current red wings Captain Nicklas Lidström, this album that was released in Late July on Mute records and won over every one even if you was not a fan of Electronic Music.

The Top Band That Should Matter to you in 2006 is

But it hard to come by the band because avoid the public spotlight by not taking photograph or doing live gig until late of the year when they played two show in NYC and Two Show in San Francisco, they put a bench mark on the music in 2006 until they put a pain in place for there Next album.

Tommorrow :Part Two
Bands 40-31
A introduction To The Culture City Festive 50

Well everyone, my regular readers to this blog sight we have made it to the end of the year, I hoped you have a wonderful x-mas on Monday, my was so quite you would even Not Notice.

Well since this is the last week of 2006, and the news cycle do get light in the last few weeks of the old year and the first few weeks in the new year i thought when planing my blog sight almost two years ago in Early 2005 i thought since i grow up on TV and the radio and TV and Radio both on the same time and computers and CD and Tapes and tapes and then the wide new world that is Internet radio and since i listen to a lot of new bands on the web these days and wanting to go to there show and buy the CD and have a small love of the cute bass player or the Cute and awsome Lead singer who i wish was a local so i can thak her out to a movie. (Oh.I am off track)

So i am going to horns my 50 best bands that released awsome music this year, so with a little inspirations and loved for the bands at the same time i decide to have my owned Festive 50, better yet it called:

"The Culture City Festive 50"

The 50 best bands that get look down up pond and get laugh at because there hip not looking good or don't have the bling, Bling, and get told there music is not right for there market, Well to that i say "To the Hell with the mainstream.

So the Following list that will spaed out over the next week(if you miss any thing during the week the Full List is on the right of the menu) i give all of my loved to the band the rock the indie world and still show that Indie music do matter these days.

The Festive 50 was first introduce in 1976 by the late great BBC Radio One DJ John Peel just to horon the Fifty best song of the year as choosed by his listener of BBC Radio One, the list that i am basing from is a list of bands who released music (So the Bands will be listed not the Album, but you will know the released a album this year)as done on the CJAM-FM Show Cowboys and Indie (Saturday from 9:30 PM -Midnidght on CJAM-FM, 91.5 on-air and on-line at www.cjam.ca).

Un like the Peel version of the festive 50, i don't have the listeners back so i have to follow some Rules For this version to be on the Festive 50.

1. they must released a album in the Caldera year (that Mean JAN.1 to Dec. 31)
2. they must be LP(More than 8 Song), no EP (expect for the Local 25)
3. there is no boarders in the Festive 50 (they could come from any where)

And The Placing of the Full list is somewhat of a exact science, is just how i am felling about the bands in the Full list (Almost 188 Album on the list) or as the Co-hosted of WRIF-HD2 Riff 2 "Detroit Local 101" Suzy Cole and Melody Licious like to say, i Like the band because it have a cute female in the band(For the Record, many of the bands or singers on this list do have boyfriends in there home city or there married with other member of the Band.

since i stared over two week ago i have paired down to the 50 bands on this and some bands that are left off the list that will be Honors in the Honorable Mention when i get out of break.

So have a safe rest of this last week of 2006 and enjoy the Countdown of the Culture city Festive 50.

Live Music Review

Fifth Annual Sounds and Spirits Holiday Spectacular
Magic Stick, Midtown Detroit
Friday, December 22, 2006

Well it was not a really cold Night as in years past but the weather was very nice but as always there was a trade off, it was raining on and off in temp in the upper 40's but all roads leads to the magic stick for the last great show of 2006(Not counting all the New years show Next week).

For the Fifth years running it what have some called it the Detroit rock n roll Holiday party which is called the Detroit Sounds and Spirits Holiday Spectacular, the Detroit rock n roll X-mas show have been held ever year since 2002 at the near height of the Detroit music Explosion in the Early part of the Decade with the White Stripes, The GO, and the Elected Six and other Detroit bands all playing at the Near-by second Floor of C-POP at gallery(The Second Floor which was the home of the Now-defunct Young soul rebled (2003-2005)).

and in the last four year the event have become a part of the Holiday tradition for the indie crowd who want to get away for all that is going on per pair for Christmas.

This show is also a benefit for Detroit's Coalition on Temporary Shelter, which help out the Homeless in the Greater Detroit area, The whole show which is dress up as a Old 60's or 70's X-mas Specials for TV golden age and was done on two stages and each of the 22 bands do one or two songs each.

The Night began with one of the Bright new bands in the Post Garage era, the Deck with there version of deck the Hall which was real good and it warm up the crowd to what to come, then after that they switch over to there makeshift stage No.2 where noise rocker and Records Store Owners (Stormy Records in Dearborn) Wendy and Carl Preform There Noise rock as Carl play his guitars as Wendy read the Night before Christmas, which was great.

during the night i had to miss some of the acts as i was talking to alot of Friends who i have not see in a wield as i was doing that Porchsleeper and American Mars was playing there set and i turn my attention to the Sonic Sounding Blast Ether Aura(Who i was told is done with the new album and it Will be out in Feburday.)the night continued with a good holiday music with From Sunshine Doray, The New Grenada, and the one and only Muldoons who play the Iggy Pop Classic "I Want to be your dog" and the X-MAS Single "Lucitdor Santa" which was rocking.

the First half wrap up with Jarrod Champion Sleeps 'til Dusk, Tragedians, and band that was 3/5 there Blance who Just released a EP Called "What this town Needs", and then it was intermission where a lot of people was chatting up with friends talking about plans for X-mas, and talking about what going on in there lives in Detroit Rocks City.

The Second Half start off real good as Rock Band Lee Marvin Computer Arm warm the crowd for the second half of the show the next band to come up was was the best Live band going on today The Hard Lesions who was join on stage by Augie Cos ins Maria From the Deck doing a really good Holiday song, the Next band is having a great year so far as the as there Make history record made the rolling top 50 albums of the year as the Thunderbirds are Now! play a fun Holiday song.

Almost the rest of the night i was I was talking to friends and giving out x-mas cards form every body who support the Detroit music music scene there was also song to fill out the rest of the night by Gilchrist, Oakes, Nash & Yun, Loretta Lucas and Friends of the Diddlers(Her New Backing Band) and Detroit Fave alt Country bands Pas/Cal who did a great song and then the one and only esQuire doing the rocking x-mas classic Run, Run, Ruddople to his singular rap disco beat.

To end the night every body favorite rockers The GO play a really good coupled of songs to wrap up the night so good the crowd wanted for a encore and they did get a good Encore as they wish ever one a Merry "X-Mas" and also remind them that the go is playing New Year Eve at the Paint Lady.

Dave Fenney who put on a great job every year with the the X-mas show every for a great cause and as every one we know and don't know go off 75,94,96,696,275,M-39,and The Lodge to go see love one either in town or out of town.

Hoped that the next year in Detroit rock city will be a good one too, Come hell or High water.
