Programme 1 - Bobby Vee

Bobby Vee's career break came through the tragedy of Buddy Holly's death on 3 February 1959. Just 15, he was a local musician who joined the bill of the Winter Dance Party touring the North West.

His first hit was Suzie Baby, but his most memorable songs - Take Good Care of My Baby, Rubber Ball, The Night Has A Thousand Eyes - were produced by Snuff Garrett and written by the song writing teams of the late fifties and early sixties, including Gerry Goffin and Carole King.

The continuing popularity of these songs has led to the latest compilation of his hits remaining in the UK album charts since its release in May.

Who Breaks a Butterfly on a Wheel
Saturday - 2:04 PM

Re-telling the story of the Rolling Stones’ traumatic summer of 1967.

Following the infamous drug-bust on a party held at the Sussex country home of Keith Richards, both he and Mick Jagger were prosecuted.

Then editor of The Times, William Rees-Moog, questioned the outcome of the court case that saw Jagger and Richards handed custodial sentences for first-time offences.

He felt their sentences were harsher than ‘any purely anonymous young man’ would have received, due to their celebrity status.

The programme, which takes its name from Rees-Moog’s article, includes interviews with the former editor and Andrew Loog Oldham, then manager of the Rolling Stones.
