The Live Review

the Detroit premuere and CD/DVD release gig for Wayne County ramblin
The Bohemian National House
Detroit, MI
June 24, 2006

From the look of the locatiton at the western edge of Corktown look like the middle of nowhere begin held at big brick bliuding just off michigan ave. is a far cry from the St. andrew hall and the Magic stick, but will a movie that start in Wanye Country
and travel all the way down to to mississippi in a long staged tale of a lost relationship with a grandfather who look like iggy pop and with a good mix of rock and blues you see why the buliding which also home of Corktown Press was the home for the premerie of a movie which was 11 years in the making made it detroit rock city premiere.

It was a two trier event, one was the showing of the movie which was made all the way back in 1995 and finsh nearly five years later it was good look back at old detroit before Comerica Park and ford field and compware. the film follow penny (who is play by Kasia, who told me this was a one time acting gig)who run away from wanye Country with his boyfriend (Christopher Gilpatrick) on a long trek down south to find her grandfather who he have not see since as a kid, but trouble get started when there motorcycle get hoodwink by gang lead by Fish Fly (Play by the late Cub Koda) with help by June Bug (Sandra "Kramer" Shaw, who also barberella in Hamtramck)and Boll Weevil's (Bill Peitsch), stuck and tied up they are spoted by a passer by name Jim (Geoff Burrows) who going in the same direction for his own reasons pick up the pair to countuie on there journay to see penny grandfather.

on there way in the long stanged trip there are met at times by a sharp dress spirit who played by ex-gores and current Dirthbombs and WDET-FM Saturday Night DJ Mick Collins when ever time when they get in to a real bad stuation or worst thouble around ever corner as the and on the long stange trip penny think back in time as a young girl hearing story as a girl fishing and hearing story from here grandfathe, there this cool scene where penny watch as Simon play drum with his pal Jeff Conolly at the old famous Horseshoe Lounge in Paradise Valley which is no more and now it part of Ford Field.

The is a good film Not bad for a filck which was mad in 1995 there is some lag time in between sence, the film have a very dirt road underground roots as well as a good soundtrack which feather Iggy, Chan Marshall, Mick Collins and dirtbombs to name a few as well as the Narrator Nathaniel Mayer it also have some good jam sessions from a jame from collins with ex-gores Drummer Peggy O'Neill who is also the wife of the director Dan Rose.

The Second part of this gig was a full on show with some of the preformers who was in the movie and on the sound track it all began with the The Rising Satr Fofe & Drum Band for all away Senatobia, Mississippi they came turg the entry way to bang a drum and rock the floor with the crowd who came tosee the film, they were very good as theyu play the fluter and bandg away the drum fro about 30 mintues and they left the back room still drumming along.

Then came the high light of some people night in the the legons soul singer Soul Singer Nathaniel Mayer who woo the crowd with his singeral song like Village of Love, I Had a Dream and I Want Love and Affection- Not the House of Correction which real have the crowd jumping.

it keep on rocking all night with Scott Morgan and the Space Heathers but i was talking to some friend who i not seen in a long time and then late in the night The motor city gypsy Eddie Kirkland gave a very good set of his blues playing with his back-up band The Reigning Sound with keep the left over crowd up and after that the raigning Sound did there own set wich was good.

so the Film/gig combo night was very good and long night ending around 2:30 AM
