MY WINNIPEG
(Canada/2007-directed by Guy Maddin)

Returning by popular demand, Canadian wunderkind Guy Maddin’s (Brand Upon the Brain!) joyously demented, visionary, brilliantly witty new work is a personal (and personally narrated) fever dream about young Guy’s childhood in the wintry wilds of the hometown of his memories. Magical, hilarious and deviously insightful, Maddin’s ruminations on the town that shaped his sensibilities result in a surprisingly sweet and utterly unique memoir. Maddin describes his mixture of documentary and surrealism as “docu-tasia,” yet no word can come close to describing this extraordinary filmmaker’s command of his medium – his ability to fashion films that appear to be long-lost artifacts from a movie history that never quite existed, but which speak comically – and eloquently – to our collective imaginations. (78 min.)

Showing:

Friday - 9:30 PM
Saturday - 9:30 PM

A GIRL CUT IN TWO
(France/2007/directed by Claude Chabrol)

Claude Chabrol is France’s grand master of suspense. With nearly 60 feature films behind him, including Le Boucher and This Man Must Die, Chabrol returns triumphantly to the screen with this razor-sharp, darkly seductive social satire, filled with unforgettably nasty characters. Ludivine Sagnier (Swimming Pool) is an ambitious and beautiful TV weather girl, torn between her love for a jaded novelist several decades her senior and the attentions of the young heir to a pharmaceutical fortune – whose bizarrely unstable behavior becomes increasingly alarming. As the whims and demands of both men begin to take their toll, passions darken, and the stakes of this fiendishly entertaining tale lead inexorably to a shocking yet satisfying conclusion. New York, Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. (115 min.)

Friday - 7:00 PM
Saturday - 7:00 PM
Sunday - 4:00 PM

Breaking Culture News

The Von Bondies have Hound a Label
and will released the "Love, Hate, and Then There’s You"
on 2/03/09

Depending who you ask it was either a good day to be a Von Bondies fan
or if you are not a fan of the band a bad day to be a music fan

I got a press released on My Space message board where it was announced they have found a label for the long awaited Follow up to the 2004 album "Pawn Shoppe Heart", it was released on Sire Records in 2004 after that they was released from the Sire after that album, and then they made a follow up album "Love, Hate, and Then There’s You".

they have been shopping for a label since and they have not found a label for it until now, they have now been singed to the Music Imprint of Shout! Factory called "Majordomo Records!" and also announced that "Love, Hate, and Then There’s You" will get a full released on New Music Tuesday February 3, 2009

the album will was written by Front man Jason Stollsteimer and produce Produced by Rick Parker (BRMC), Peter Katis (Interpol), Sean O’Keefe (Hawthorne Heights) and Butch Walker (Hot Hot Heat).

To warm up to the released the band will released a limited-edition 7-inch single featuring the song “Pale Bride” and the non-album b-side “Falling In Love” will be released on November 18th that will be sold in a short tour that will included Detroit at the Crofoot on Halloween Night October 31st.

the Band have almost a total New line up since there last album, Both Guitarist Marcie Bolen[Now with Sliverghoest]and Bassist Carrie Ann Smith have left the group, the band is made up with lead singer Jason Stollsteimer, Drummer Don Blum, new bass player Leann Banks [Ghost City] and guitarist Christy Hunt.

Those Danceing preview days - Dance Show No.3

Tonight is the Third Dance show of season 7 of Dancing with the stars
and Now barring Breaking News i can write about before i turn off the Computer
for a few hours.

Now last week was three show spread over five hours of prime time last week with a star dancer off on Tuesday night and Wednesday night.

Now to be honest i saw night one last week, didn't see Night two because i saw a live gig and as promise i say i was not going to do live twittering the result show because it a fluff-o-Rama, so no live local twitter the result show until the last show.

Now on the 1st two kick off last week, it was a giving that Comedian Jeffrey Ross would get the boot after he tried his best but to tell you the truth he can't Dance even after he got accidentally got poke in the eye by his partner Edyta Śliwińska morning run-thought.

on the second one who got voted off the dance floor. i was surprise that actor and killer of so many TV show [Happy Days,The Love Boat,Dynasty,Married... with Children]Ted McGinley to leave show show this early but seeing the highlights it look like he was not quick on his feet then his partner Inna Brayer.

So that mean one thing One More week of Cloris Leachman, She was too much last week playing to the judges, swaing and all the but her dancing put me to sleep but she is showing the old folks at 82 she still have it for better or worst.

and is just me or is the dancing not that good so far, in the two nights of Dancing last week there was one score 25 of better and that was score by Ex- host of E Wild On! Brooke Burke[26 on Night Two].

Since i saw just night One last week
Here who i think doing good and who boring me to death.

1. Lance Bass
2. Warren Sapp
3. Maurice Greene
4. Brooke Burke
5. Toni Braxton
6. Misty May-Treanor
7. Cody Linley
8. Kim Kardashian
9. Rocco DiSpirito
10. Susan Lucci
11. Cloris Leachman

Don't forget i will be live, Local Twitter
Week 2 tonight From 8-10 PM
at
www.twitter.com/CulturecityNews
