The Local News Round-up out of the Weekend

(If you have any news tips to share to Detroit Culture City
Fired on Off at culturecitynewstips@yahoo.com, i would love hearing from you)

Well it was a very good weekend in Detroit rock City i went to two shows, One on Friday and one on Saturday, but i almost miss the one on Saturday.

but first let me get to the one on Friday, It was the Got Detroit/webvomit bands Show case at the Belmont in hamtramck, saw three very good bands on Friday night, one of them i got to know really well but the two of them i did not know until Friday night.

The First bands up and total won over the crowd and me over as well was Electro-Punk Rocker Carjack !!! (MY SPACE:
www.myspace.com/carjackband), Yes that really his band name, it a one man playing lo-fi punk rock using a lot of video games sample and really wram up the crowd at the belmont, that was really good for the one of my fave band of last year, the new school detroit rockers Garage rockers the Decks(MySpace: www.myspace.com/thedecks) who i say put on one of there best show i have seen in a whield, there are so good.

and then the headliner of the whole night of the web Vomit event is Freer(MYSPACE:
www.myspace.com/freerdom) a very smooth rock, very nice, and also very good as well.

that made the editor of the sight Japer very happy indeed i talk to him after the show and he was pretty happy with the line up.

All Three bands just to let you know will play the Hamtramck Blowout (more on that later)

you can check out the web Vomit site at
http://webvomit.gotdetroit.com/ (or click on the menu on the right) or at the main site at www.gotdetroit.com/gd/.

and it is good to know that the last band Freer support the my cause of Indie music with this post on there Myspace site.

FREER supports the war against musical terror.
i could not agree with you more.

on Saturday night i went the stick to see SHiney toys guns(WEB:
shinytoyguns.com, MYSPACE: www.myspace.com/shinytoyguns) , but i almost miss it on a couple of levels, One i was going to go some where between 8 or 9 PM to the Stick, but i got this myspacer from the opender the Nice Device (WEB: thenicedevice.com, MYSPACE: www.myspace.com/thenicedevice) "we play tonight at the Magic Stick With Shiny Toy Guns! This is an all ages show and doors are at 8PM. It's almost sold out so get your tickets!Hope to see you! Get there early!".

When i read that i thought there no way i will go to that show, i did not whan to be shut out like on Dec. 13, 2003(Blanche was playing and and Jack and Jason really thorw down), so i did leave at 7 PM got there at 7:35 PM and yes there was a line was forming out side the stick, and not only that it was cold it was chill and yes it was begin to snow just before the doors at 8 PM, well if you know about hanginng out at the stick sometime the doors opened real late between 30 to 45 minutes.

So me and other fans of shiny toy guns was trying to say warm with temp in the teens and it began snowing and with alot of the bums hanging around even one of them was raping and no one listen and all i was saying let me in and at the same time i was wondering, "What if the gig have sold out already and i dont get in and i have to go all the way back home.

well, the doors open at about 8:15 PM and i was thinking i may of may not get in but then i did get in to the show OK, paid the $10 to get in and brought the CD, by the time the first band of the night "The Nice Device" got on stage it was a total sold out and as the Lovely Alicia Gbur told the crowd "you are the lucky ones". yes Alicia i am the luck one.

So the morler of the story if you are going to the show and your fave local band say it almost sold out pleased go early, so you do have to go to a anoder show.

As for the show itself it was fairly good to great, "The Nice device" was lovely as always and not only that pretty at the same time (and i know she have a boyfriend, just to let you know)playing stuff from there C.D. "let the Nightlight Down, as always like the song Little Birde.

I was not impress with the part LA-part El paso texas band Electro/New Wave band Rome to Paris little to messy with the loud scrarming and it was little bit to much late 80 mild metal, they were OK.

but all the hard core fans and the fans who hear there music on the internet and on show like Check, one... two.. on Indie 103.1 and KROQ on-line, because there music is so good Shiny Toy Guns the LA band who play track of We Are Pilots and i got to tell you they did somthing they fully light up the stick with there stage show which was so sweet and they play there well know indie hits "Le Disco" and "Don't Cry Out" and there where a great band who is so awsome, there played a really short set it lasted only 44 mintues, making it the 2nd Shortest Headling gig i ever saw EVER!(The record if you want to know was 29 mintues,
Partyline, Trumbullplex west of midtown, November 2006).

it was a very good good show and got my copy sing by every member of the band, which was nice, and also i saw everybody i know.

And if you are wondering, i did not do anything on sunday, unless you work downtown to Dodge the Lodge.... Aging

Bad News if you are a fan of the band Those Transatlantics(Festive 50-Local 25, 2006) there co- Lead singer Kathleen Bracken have left the band,Here what she mention in a letter on the
Suburban Sprawl Music my space page:

"Dear Friends,
This is just a little note to let you all know I am not in rehab, I was not eaten by a sea monster, and I have not joined a cult (Unless you count Opera's book club).

This was a strange and unexpected way to start the new year; however things are shaping up quite well. Recently I have had to do some re-figuring as the other 4 members of Those Transatlantics decided they no longer wanted me as their front lady. I am looking forward to enjoying the process of making something new.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the folks who bought Knocked Out, came to the shows, and fellow musicians I met along the way; especially everyone at Suburban Sprawl. The warm response that Those Transalantics received was more than I had anticipated when we started this band 3 1/2 years ago, so thank you.

I am excited about my future and look forward to staying in contact with everyone. Please feel free to reach me at kathleenbrack@yahoo.com. I imagine the wicked myspace monster will have me in it's clutches soon as well... so look for that soon.

Very truly yours,
Kathleen"

as for the band there are looking for a new co-lead singer. will keep you posted
