White Stripes are Free Agents after V2 Restructured

Sheridan Square has basically shuttered its frontline V2 record business as part of restructuring to focus on its catalog releases and the future opportunities presented by digital distribution.

Today (Jan. 12), the company let go its V2 staff, including president Andy Gershon, and will reorganize the business in its Nashville office, where the company's COO Michael Olsen will oversee the catalog business. About 35 people are believed to have lost their jobs as part of the restructuring.

As part of that move, the company will retain the White Stripes catalog, but will no longer issue new music by the duo or other frontline artists such as Moby or the Raconteurs, sources say. The only genre the company plans to participate in the frontline going forward is gospel.

Gershon confirmed that he will "not be a part of V2 going forward" due to the restructuring, but says the label has not shut down. It will be primarily a catalog label. "I wish the best for everybody that's still left at V2 and Sheridan Square," he says.

Sources familiar with the situation say that the principals, including Redux partners -- Joe Bianco, Anil Narang and Joe Pretlow -- and the Stephens Group, which bought into the company last July during a financial restructuring, are expected to invest more funds to finance further catalog acquisitions.

In fact, the original game plan when Redux was formed in 2003 was to avoid the frontline business and do a catalog roll-up. Since then, Sheridan Square, the name under which the company operates, has spent an estimated $43 million acquiring indie labels V2 North America, Compendia and Artemis; distributor Musicrama; and certain catalog assets of Tone-Cool Records, Triloca, Ropeadope Records and Vanguard Classical.

In addition to the catalog, the company is looking for ways to grow business digitally. Part of that is said to be in talks that could include a merger or investment with a company that is pursuing a similar strategy in the video business.

Fire near the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit
every thing is O.K.

Breaking News out of Detroit midtown area it kind of surprising

There was a Two alarm fire at a abandoned apartment building on Garfield between Woodward and John R. right near Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit in midtown Detroit.

the Blaze was reported at about 6 A.M. according to media report it was a one alarm fire and then it became a two alarm fire, the Fire was only contain to that apartment building, Detroit Fire Fighters was worried because of the Strong winds would speard the burring ember but lucky it did not, because it was a brick building.

The fire was close to
Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit which was across the street on Garfield and Woodward, I did called the Gallery but they were not Available because the Museum is closed.

also near by that abandoned building was the VA hopitial,Wayne State U., the Majestic Theater Center(The Stick, Majestic Theater, Majestic Cafe, and the Garden Bowl.) and the D.I.A.

at last word the Fire was under control.

Let See what going around in the Local Music round UP

I am kicking off the Local news Round up with a story that i am taking a big risk of reporting on this blog base out of Detroit but my Alley Cat mole told me it O.K. to post this very important info, So here we go my Alley Cat Mole and a stick ant mole a week early have told that the next project From Jack White will be A White Stripes record, my mole toll me that there in the Prossecc of writing New song For There Six New Album with his long time Drummer Meg, Now i don't want to start a lot Crazy Rumors but i want to Stress that he is staring to write songs For the new album and there is No timetable for recording and releasing of New Material.

If Jack and Meg do record a new album it would Be the 1st album not record in Detroit, with Jack now Living in Nashville,Tennessee which he taking a break after Touring with the Raconteur all of last year.

Also i caught up with
The Colonel(AKA Zack Shipp) and he told me that the Electric Six is going back to work to record a follow up to Switzerland, what Zack also toll me that it will be recorded in Hamtramck at his house, (Zack is also a producer) there is no time table for the New album but it will released some time this year.

moving on from making record to beginning on Local TV, I hoped you got to see Rock 'N' Roll Safari on Detroit Public TV(WTVS-TV, PBS-56) , On Saturday night, The First of Four rock and Roll Safari as the Muggs was profiled along with a live set that was made in 2005, Form what i saw last night i was pretty good i only have to see the second half on Taped, there is Three More Shows in the can so you see all three show over the next three weeks.

And the Bands are play on the shows are The Hard Lessons (Jan. 13), Hotness(Jan. 20) and Sweet Sounds of Detroit (Jan. 27), The Show were put together by Detroiters James McGovern and Greg Sharrow for for the on-line web sight, which you can see the footage form what they shot.

And There will be more of it this week the guys will tape a Double bill of shows at the stick on Friday and Saturday Night on Friday Night the bands that will played at the stick will be Loretta Lucas, The Grande Nationals, The Muldoons and on Saturday Night at the stick it will be Man Inc, Grayling, Born Again Floozies Both Show will Begin at 8 PM with the doors opened and the show begin at 9 PM.

and Congratulation to The Hard Lessions(who will be on a Rock n Roll Safari Next week) Who was Crown
Real Detroit Weekly Artists of the Year For 2006., And everybody is thinking that next year will be better From Here you can read th article in this week RDW.
