Dispatch Form TasteFest - Day Three - Friday, July 6th

Well today i got a haircut yeah!

and just like always in this year Cityfest i was late getting out of the house to go to cityfest, not only i got a hair cut but also i was doing a post ask my friends in Culture City to show up at Liz Copeland gig tomorrow at the Pure Detroit stage. i did not get out until 4:15 and got there about a hour later.

So that mean i miss the carjack. gig at the pure Detroit stage rats.
but i did see part of his act on Wednesday Night at the Cityfest after gig and it was very good.

and believed or not the first band i saw "The Come-Ons" there Front woman [who is one of the closest female friend i have] Deanne Iovan also have a hair cut as well and she cut it short like mine cut, there gig was very good considering they don't play that offend, the band which included Bryan Foreman, and Dirtbombs drummer Patrick Pantano where join on stage the Sirens Front woman Muffy Korena and ex-sirens and now full time mom Miss Shelly as back up singers a prefit warm-up for Muffy as her band played for the 1st time since the CD released gig at the near by Northern Lights Lounge way back in February.

I was going to the park stage to see a band at the park stage by the last song by the Come-Ons, A Donna Summer song brought me back in, after i saw Deanne and her husband to say hi and compair short hair cut, The next band i saw the park stage is the local folk band the Syreens with there new member Local Solo hero aurdra kutbth they were very good as as they relax the Crowd on the hot afternoon as i relax after walking for a few miles on a blister toe.

so i walk around the New Center area a bit as every one is still recovering from the EPIC "weird Al" the night before as i take a short cut from the main stage to the pure Detroit and at the same ducking fan who came to see "High School Musical" which is playing at the Near by fisher theater inside the fisher building [it playing thought out the weekend at the same time as Cityfest] but are we worried about, No1 know full well that the Number of indie music fans outnumber high school musical fans by a ratio of 2:1 of 3:1 depending of how many fans you know.

so i walk back to the park stage and walk the many side project of The Sights Eddie Barkest as i saw his second side project The Drinking Problem who i saw for the first time since that Hamtramck blow out last march, the band which made up of member of other bands in Detroit like The Hard Lessons, the Rants, and the Syreens and they play the local indie alt.-country and they sound great and they have a good vibe

and after that gig i have to go back to the main stage to see the 1st of two gigs during cityfest on the the main stage, the displays now they whip up at the main stage after winning the Detroit News battle of the band back in March during that crazy weekend when WWE Westelmania was in town, there act was very good amd very rocking i wish there was more people to see this young band at there 6:30 PM slot about a 1/4 who saw "Wired Al" Epic gig last night, but in there defecne they draw up a good crowd made mostly of there young fans.

after the gig i was park at the park stage for the rest of the night, the first band played there 1st gig since there February CD released gig, there are outrages wild rock band "The Sirens" who was really good with there outfit [all dising by by there front woman muffy] all made out of Newsprint from the Newspaper the band look great as they entertain the big crowd at the park stage which is good to see.

i was going to the Northern Lights Lounge for a little bit but i stick around to see a very good friend of mind who do a very good hula-hoops act, her name is Revolva she made the crowd goes wild with the wirled hoops which fun to see.

after i came back from a block down at the northern light Lounge i saw the last band of the night, "The Detroit Corbas" now i was only going to say for the full set but a friend of mine who happened to live in the same city which i live whan to go home, So i left early myself, but in the six song i saw there sound very good and no Rachel was very kind and very nice to the crowd [remember this is a family event] as the band get ready to goes on tour for the summer with Willoz which will stop at the stick on Memorial day weekend.

I did not got to the post show at northern lights i went to the belmont to see a band i not seen in a whied the local indie pop band I, Crime which sound very good.

Tomorrow will be very special because Former Detroit DJ and soon maybe former detroiter Liz Copeland is programing the Pure Detroit stage all day on the luckiest day of the year 7/7/07[July 7th, 2007]

and not only that one of my fave band Yo La Tango will played on the main stage [and one more thing, Yo La Tango is not a Emo Band]

also playing Dooley Wilson, The Expatriates, Siddharta, The GO, Freer, and The High Strung will all be playing and don't forget after Cityfest closed Liz is doing the post show at the Northern Lights Lounge.

This Is a Called For all Culture City

Now i know you will read this and still think i still bitter

but, when you read it, let me say i have move on From what happened over the last year and a half, Now here what this post is about.

Back in April, WDET was announcing they was getting rid of the rest hand-pick D.J. after a series of really bad Fund Raiser that result the one fo the most desater program Changes in Detroit Radio History, when then G.M. Michael Coleman[who resign in Dac. 2006] dump Daytime music at the station which include Martin Bandyke, Judy Adams, and willie Wilson and replace it with News programing from N.P.R.

well one of those DJ who was let go was the last of the Local Late Night D.J. the one and only Liz Copeland who i have said before on this blog sight is on of the nicest sweet and kind DJ i have ever meet.

Now i know i have been ask this question ever since Her Last show 2 and a half month ago, what have been doing?, Well since i don't see my friends a lot i have no idea what have she been doing.

But a few weeks ago i heard a bunch of reports the Liz husband[Sorry guys, she is happy marry]Clark Kellogg have found a job at all placed Denver, Colorado and she have mave the move to be by her man, so we have seen the last of Liz in the Detroit area, so I make this called to everyone in Culture City and not only that send a message to the Clueless radio yahoo down the road on Cass Ave.

Liz Copeland is programing the pure Detroit stage on Saturday at and she will be the first DJ up at about 3 PM in the afternoon, now most people question support for a DJ a Night because not much people stay up to listen to her show, i say to thous people they should listen to her fans so if you ever like Liz show during those 11 years i ask those fans you know other fans and so on and so on to come to the gig on Saturday night and Fill up Second St. from the Front of the stage just near Lothrop road all the way to West Grand Blvd. we have to fill second to show all of Detroit that we love Liz and will always care about her now and forever.

Pleased Note: Cityfest Organiser have place the a marketplace at second Ave. now pleased respect the business that are doing business on Second and pleased support Detroit made goods

here is a detail map of the area to fill up second ave. For Liz

and don't forget she will be playing a after party at the Norther Light Lounge on West Baltimore st. after City fest close for the night at 10:30.

Dispatch Form TasteFest - Day Two - July 5th, 2007

And it was Epic by any other word

and i do mean that, if you where there you know about, if you where not there you made be kicking yourself big time today, seeing the Epic of all show at cityfest and the crowd it was something to believe, But it will get to that as the post go along.

Day two was a little bit early un-Like day one the only hick-up was house sitting duties and the Weather there was a T-Storms for the Wayne until 4:45 pm, the New Center only got rain and the really bad stuff was west of us so so it did not get bad of so i thought.

So i did not see the first band i want to see the all female band hellen, but there drummer Emily told me they did not go on at 3 P.M. because of the rough weather and worst after the rain did pass there did played there set but they were on a tight Schualeh there set was really, Really short.

the 1st band i saw was the Fondas who played a very good set for a for a early crowd and not only that i get to enjoy the raven hair Lead girl of the the band Juile Benjmen, since the other stage did not get on going un 6 PM i was stuck on the park stage and for the second time i saw the fairly brand new band called "Serenity Court", The ferndale base is made up of Ex-Outrageous Cherry Drummer Carey Gustafson, Her sister Emily, and Annette Walowicz, and since there was on a bigger stage they have seven birds on stage[The member of Serenity Court and Four other Musician who was dress up as Birds].

They were very good with there Minimalist Lyrical style and with the dress up birds that was a nice kick, I left earil so i can just the see a Scrummage match from the Detroit Derby Girls Who have there Championship Game in about two weeks so the did a half speed[remember there were on the Concert parking lot] demo for all crowd to see and a roller Nijia who works the a bar down the street from the Fisher gave me a bummer sticker.

so my next stop was the park stage to see the one of the many side project Eddie Baranek "Shotgun Wedding" it was a very good and very mellow set of mostly country music and it was also the chanced to rest my feet after walking for mosty of the day so i relax on the park and near of the end of it set there was a mighting wind that blew over the whole city fest area with Napkin and paper Filing around the corner of Second and West Grand now the wind was strong enough to blow some fo the sings and shut down a few booths, but i did now rain as the Gray clouds Move East of the New Center.

so after getting out of Danger, I head back to the Pure Detroit Stage to see everybody fave under the radar band "The Hentechmen" which was real good as they as they play dispute the wind picking up after that i was taking a shortcut in side the fisher building ducking fans of "High School Musical: The Show playing at the Fisher Theater and making a stop by to the norther light Lounge, i Did see the local rock band the "Thunderbird Are Now" i saw there last four songs of there set and there was really, really good in all there zaniest, even one of the Member of the band took one of the Hula-Hoops from the punk rock Fitness as part of there act.

It did get a good side crowd at the park stage, but the main stage was something to believe a Hugh side crowd wittiness a Epic show by the one and only "Wired Al" Yankovic as he play a nearly two hours show and it have "Wired Al" Playing all the pardey hit you can Muster and yes there was a lot of costume changes during the long set mix with light and bubbles and Crazy video on the big Screen as he play all the songs form his long history of mocking all the big his and Dressing up a p-Diddy, Emmem, Kurt Cobain, A Jedi masters singing and yes Michael Jackson.

during his long costume changes, The big Screen played all his old clips from his varor tv gig and his old show Al T.V. , and some made just for this show including a really, really Funny interview with K-Fed tell him he is a no-Talent Hack, Brilliant, now most of the people i talk to thought the show was fantastic, i Called it a Huge Epic and not only that it was the biggest crowd i have ever seen for a main Stage show in a long, long time, I was Awesome.

So after the festival area close i went to the Northern Light Lounge to see a post show gig from from the one and only Esquire back up by his long-time DJ Dviant and his back -up dancer Korie and Shelby as they push for Linda Lovelace for Perdesent.

Tomorrow at Cityfest - Day three with music from SSM,carjack., The Sanit Peaches,The Syeens,The Siren and The Detroit Cobras and the best part yet i get a haircut yeah!

Dispatch Form Comerica Cityfest - Day One - July 4th 2007

Well it the Nation 231st birthday for our great country

and this year date for the fourth of July was held on a Midweek and if is held on a mid-week and that mean Comerica Cityfest, the single of half yay to the year have begun at the New Center area in front of the Fisher Building on west grand and Second.

now on every city fest i go to probable the most important rules of thumb for those die hard music fans is not to go early until 3 or 4 P.M. when the good music start well to tell you the turht there was not a good band ready until past 5:30 PM when the first band went on the main stage Femi Kuti and The Positive Force was on.

So i kill my prep time by watching Rocky III [you know the one with Mr.T as "Clubber Lang" and the 1st on-screen role for a then unknown Hulk Hogan] i left the home shed at about 10 minutes to 4 P.M. and on my way i stop over at a friend house for a little gathering of the grill which took almost three hours i was going to leave at 6 but saw some extra friends and stay andoir Hour until i left 10 minutes before 7 P.M.

And it was a toughed go with so much food i eat, about a 1/4 in to the trip i throw up not full blast but almost.[Sorry you have to read this]

so i arrived at city fest at 7:45 P.M. almost two hours behind Schueld, and with no way to go in went to the the pure Detroit Stage at the second Ave. Wind Tunnel which is happy name,[because there there is a Strong gust of wind coming from the north in between the Fisher Building and New Center One on Second Ave.] and caught Demon Days: An official Planet E Selection with Carl Craig who programme the whole stage with his Planet E record mate, the vibe was very good and also very loud but what do you expect.

The First big mystery of City fest was a sing on the Left of the Pure Detroit Stage under the "Real Detroit Weeekly" Banners there was a sing direct to former WDET-FM Late Night host Liz Copeland and it come from all of Detroit and it Simple say the following:

Dear Liz,

We Miss You

Love
Detroit

a pretty good Warm up to what will be a special Day on Saturday when she play the same stage at three and after Cityfest at the Northern Light Lounge.

i spend a 20 minutes until i walk around to see the laid out of where is where at city fest including a stop over at the park stage to see what the vibe was like and it was a very good turn out at the crowd at the park stage to check out the band playing at the stage at the time "Scream Ray" which i think was good.

But i walk over to the the Main Stage to see a Big Crowd to See the band all the indie kids want to see the Austin, TX Spoon they played a hour long set of old song and New Songs from there New Album off "Ga ga ga ga ga" Which is out next Tuesday they played New songs like "Don't Make Me a Target," "Rhthm and Soul," and "Black Like Me." as well as old songs like "I Turn My Camera On" and "Sister Jack".

I thought the gig was very well done and very well received from the big crowd hanging around the parking lot and there was a very good respond of the small crowd hanging at the Front of the stage to get the Autograph from Britt Daniel and one other member of the band who sadly i did not I.D., so after that i when back to see the tale end of Carl Craig set on the pure Detroit Stage and after that i went to the Northern Light Lounge just about a block From Here and when to the Official after party, which tonight was program by the web editor of fivethreedialtone.com and i got to say it was pack with the bar area pretty much Crowed all night long mostly to catch "The Moldoons" who was very good and the one man Video game band "c arjack..." who i catch half there set because i have to go home to warp up Night one.

Over All i think day one was O.K., Other than Spoon and Planet E it was OK but i wish there other bands that i know would played but you also got to remember it was the 4th of July.

So that the End of Day one, Day Two is more local tomorrow with Shotgun Wedding, Thunderbirds Are Now![Friend of the Blog Sight],Hellen, The Fondas, Serenity Court, The Hentchmen and your the gigs of all gigs at Cityfest The king of the over hype song parodied “Weird Al” Yankovic, i bet you "Tapped in the Drive-Thur will be a crowd pleasers.

THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND
(England—1961—directed by Cy Endfield)

On a dark and stormy night during the Civil War, a handful of Union prisoners escape in a hot-air balloon, and thanks to the powerful winds, they drift toward an island that’s… inhabited by giant monsters! Based on a novel by Jules Verne – and including the return of Captain Nemo (Herbert Lom) from Verne’s previous 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea – Mysterious Island is full of wondrous and fantastic creatures designed and animated by effects master Ray Harryhausen. Big chickens, big bees and even a giant crab spring to life, as does Captain Nemo’s mysterious and amazing undersea kingdom – not to mention the smoldering volcano that lies dangerously close. Music by Bernard Herrmann.

Tuesday - WHO BREAKS A BUTTERFLY ON A WHEEL

This is the story of the Rolling Stones’ traumatic summer of 1967. The programme looks at the events and repercussions surrounding a highly publicised drug bust on a party held at Redlands - Keith Richard’s Sussex country home.

The programme takes its name from a piece in The Times written by its traditionally conservative editor William Rees-Mogg. He questioned the outcome of the court case that saw Richards and Jagger handed custodial sentences for first time offences that were harsher than "any purely anonymous young man" would have received due to their celebrity status.

The programme includes interviews with Sir Rees-Mogg.
