Ike Turner, whose role as one of rock's critical architects was overshadowed by his ogrelike image as the man who brutally abused former wife Tina Turner, died Wednesday at his home in suburban San Diego. He was 76.

He Wrote what could be the 1st rock and roll song "Rocket 88," in 1951

but he will be remember as part of the husband and wife soul duo Ike and Tina Turner who have a 16 years marriage which include this classic hit "Proud Mary"
