It's 9 O'Clock

and Halloween is six Months away I know the spook have not shown up yet.

But the reason i bring this up today is not one, but two passing of the "undead"

The voice of the classic song that always played at Halloween "The Monster Mash" have pass on, singer Bobby "Boris" Pickett who did the song impersonation of 50's horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi, died last night in LA he was 69 and have been batting leukemia

the song reach the chart the week before Halloween in 1962, aldoght he did not have andor No. one hit it became the most popular of the one-hit wonders and it was No.1 aging in 1970 and 1973.

1973 was also the year i was born and in my early Childhood i did watch watch alot of Old School T.V. on all the Detroit TV Channel [2,4,7,9,20,50,56,62]

and one of those show that scare the living daylight out of me after after whating TV all morning and getting in a few fight with my younger sister over who watch what was Sir Graves Ghastly he scare alot of younger Detroit on WJBK-TV2 from 1967 until he presented his last bad B-movie Flicks in May of 1983.

Now word came this morning that the guy who played the Vampire who host from that Coffin Lawson Deming have pass on Wednesday Night, He was living in Cleveland, Ohio after the show end and even without the cape and make up would still be reconing for that movie host.

there is a report for his old station on his passing on
Fox 2 Web sight that where you can sing your Condolences
also there is a good Fan sight that give Prise to
Sir Graves Ghastly scary way whay ha ha ha ha

Now i did Search you tube to find any Sir Graves Ghastly clips but sadly i did not find none.

But i did find a single clip on you tube but i did find a clip of The Monster Mash in Hourer of both Sir Graves Ghastly and Bobby "Boris" Pickett

It's 9 O'Clock

And where only 16 days away for a event that make America Idol look like a Middle School Talent show, but it look like a big time over the top High School Musical

yes it that contest i mention on this same post on Monday, The Eruovision Song contest which this year event like every year is held at the winning Country of the last winner of the EruoVision.

Because of Monster rock and roll band Lordi Shocking victory in last year Eruovision contest, this year Big stage Contest will be held at a hockey arena in the Finnish Capitol of Helsinki, and they are hoping for a repeat victory in Eruovision.

But Before Lordi victory in last year Contest the country because sort of like the Eruovision Version of the LA Clippers, Not much in the 40 years they have been in the Eruovision Contest, they have finish last eight times and scoring Zero points three times, so the Chanes are not that good.

But all there Hopes are pinning on Hanna Pakarinen before she got into singing she was a [and yes were are not making this up] forklift driver before she audition for Finnish Idols [oohhh here were go] bow she a star in Finland and hoping she would win ober Europe with this Song "Leave Me Alone"[And No the Michael Jackson version]

Well, It kind of like could i say Avril Lavigne in ten years doing a rock version of Kelly Carlson but sounding a lot like Bonnie Tyery, Ouch.

But as you know as regular reader of this blog sight i keep a well maintain Indie Sreakand you know i maintain the spirit of this blog sight, after look at that video i know you are asking you self this question.

What if the Indie Kids ran Eurovision Song Contest?

Good Question, only one problem i don't know music of Finnish rock or indie rock music[other than Lordi} so I decide to go to the encyclopedia Wikipedia for any Finnish band and with the power of you tube we find out indie replacement For the Finnish entry in Eruovision.

Our Entry:

It the Only entry i can find

Pan Sonic

[if you know any Indie rock Finnish bands, play fire off a e-mail at culturecitynewtips[at]yahoo[dot]com]

The Indie News Round Up

Today is Tuesday, April 24

Today was a nice 65* it was not as windy like it was yesterday

and if you what to see game one of the wings vs the Sharks on Thursday you have to go to the bars to see V.S. network because that where the game will be on, because V.S. have Exsucle right to show the game so that will lock out FSN Detroit and the CBC have rights to Canadian teams still left in the NHL playoffs.

The Big Story when you read this morning that Downtown Detroit Music Venue St, Andrew hall may be sold to of all people Eminem, according to report in Today [April 24] Detroit From people close to the talks.

that Eminem and his manager, Paul Rosenberg would buy the leased from live nation and members of the club's current management team would continue to run the building's day-to-day operations

But hold on there is more to this story late in the afternoon on the Detroit Free Press on there Web sight [www.freep.com] that Rosenberg would man control of the hall’s liquor license and day-to-day operations and Live Nation would retain the property[the building itself] and rights to book shows at St. Andrews Hall, Eminem will have a role in but what roll will it be there not saying because he is barred From Begin a part of the liquor license until 2008.

Michigan Law do say that convicted felons are barred for owning liquor license if you were conviction of a Felony, In 2001 Eminem plead guilty to a concealed-weapon charge stemming from an incident at a Warren Hot Rock Rock club; Now if he stay out of trouble from now to 2008 his conviction would be clear from his record.

And it worth noteing one thing Eminem got his start at the St.Andrews Hall with all those rap battle at the Downstairs Shelter which was recreate for the excellent movie "8 Mile" [Which i highly recommend]

There will be more on this story as it continued to unfold

Slim Shaddy in Talks to by St. Andrews Hall
story from the Detroit News

full report later

Adam Graham / Detroit News Pop Music Writer

Eminem is in negotiations with concert promoters Live Nation to purchase St. Andrew's Hall, sources confirmed to The Detroit News on Monday.

The Detroit rapper has been in talks with the Live Nation (formerly Clear Channel Entertainment) about buying the downtown Detroit concert venue for a month, according to an insider who requested anonymity.

As part of the proposed deal, terms of which were not disclosed, Eminem and his manager, Paul Rosenberg, would manage the 1,000-capacity venue, and members of the club's current management team would continue to run the building's day-to-day operations.

Live Nation sources and St. Andrew's Hall management declined comment on Monday. A phone call to Eminem's management was not returned as of press time.

St. Andrew's, with its rectangular design, open floor area and horseshoe-shaped balcony, hosts concerts by up-and-coming performers and mid-level rock and hip-hop acts. The building's basement, the Shelter, has the capacity to accommodate several hundred patrons and hosts concerts by artists not quite ready for the stage upstairs.

Eminem has a lot of history with St. Andrew's. He infamously participated in rap battles at the Shelter in scenes that were re-created for the film "8 Mile." Em hosted the DVD premiere party for "8 Mile" at St. Andrew's in March 2003, and he posed (with D12) for the cover of Spin Magazine's August 2001 issue on the venue's front steps.

Given his ties to the building and the venue's price, the building is "a good investment for him," the source said.

It's 9 O'Clock

And where left than three week away from a show that believe it or not top America Idol for Cheesy to the fifth degree.

But think of this question what if they Mix Idol with the Olympic but in a real over the top stage show to all to see, well they already do that it is called the Eurovision Song Contest and every year since the first contest was held in 1956 they search for the best song out there, if there any.

the contest started out and a competition among the country among active member countries of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU),in that first year only seven country entry the contest [Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, & Switzerland]back in 1956, this year Eruovision contest which will be held in Helsinki, Finland on May 12th will have 42 Countries it is so big they have to spilt it up and now it held on two night with a semi-Finals on May the 10th with ten of the 24 Entries going on to the big show with the top ten from last year event [which was held in Athens, Greece]and the four big backers of the EBU[Spain,France,Germany, and the United Kingdom].

The Contest feather some of the what you called pop from a bunch of people that will be famous for almost ten seconds and well go back to Worshiping "the Arctic Monkeys"

So i think so every night from now until after the what you called a big event will look back at vision of Eruo Vision past here some video from you tube of what you called singing and If Need see what would happened if the indie kids where in charge of the whole event.

SALFORD LAD

It is almost twenty years since Morrissey, Britain’s most thoughtful and enduring lyricist and singer, launched his solo career. Ever since his emergence as front man with the Smiths in the 1980s his songs have been poured over, analysed and quoted. In this two part series for BBC Radio 2 Stuart Maconie tells the story of the Manchester lad who became a British icon. We hear from friends, fans, colleagues and fellow musicians including: Richard Boon, Mike Hinc, Jo Slee, Andrew Paresi, Willy Russell, Badly Drawn Boy, Zoe Williams, John Hegley, Preston, Stephen Street, Tony Visconti, Andy Rourke and Suggs.

BEHIND THE VELVET ROPE: STUDIO 54 UNCOVERED

This is the story of how one New York nightclub came to be the spiritual home of disco. And part of its downfall. Boy George looks back on the most decadent disco in history: Studio 54, which opened its doors thirty years ago this April. It’s a tale of hedonism, ambition and sheer abandon that within three years was snuffed out forever. Forget punk, disco music is the most influential, popular and lasting cultural phenomenon from thirty years ago. Studio 54 became a symbol of that era, hugely popular yet short lived, democratic yet elitist, hedonistic yet self destructive. Outside its door, bondage trousers, safety pins and a well thumbed copy of the NME impressed no one.

THE SINATRA TRAIL

Michael Freedland presents a four-part series looking at the life of Frank Sinatra as seen through the eyes of those who knew him. This will not be a series featuring stars, the obvious names of a few remaining contemporaries who like to think some of Sinatra's glory will rub off on them. Instead, accompanied by appropriate music, Frank's biographer Michael Freedland will talk to people whose lives were influenced by him - even if he did not know it himself.
